Figured I'd ask one more odd question...
Is there a setting or app that would allow me to add a "gtalk" icon to a contact so that when I select a contact I would get the option to directly "talk/chat" with them via "Gtalk"?
Currently, when I select a contact I get the following icons:
"phone or call", "edit info", and "Instant Message"
I'd like to add to that list the "Gtalk" option.

I noticed after doing a restore to Rubix 1.6 when I tried to access Settings they would not show nor was the Setting icon in my app drawer. Is this just a bad restore or is the Nandroid corrupted? I'm running DarkSlide v3 just fine right now just trying to figure out if my RubiX 1.6 nandroid is crap or not.

For some reason, a bunch of my contacts are showing up as their Twitter names, and I'd rather have it be their real name, which I have listed under their Google accounts (for example, GreenMike vs. Mike Green). I even unlinked my Twitter account, but the names stayed the same. Similarly, is there a way to set it so the contact pictures are Google account pictures by default?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my droid 2. All set up and rolling. However, I am adding shortcuts to my contacts on my desktop (ala the d1) by pressing and holding the screen, then Shortcuts > Contact. I scroll to the contact and select it. and it adds them to the home screen. Unfortunately, it adds them with the WRONG icon. It IS an existing icon for a user just not the user I am selecting. Also: It is only when I add it to the home screen as a shortcut when it gets jacked. Anyone else seeing this or have a solution? Also, I use google to sync all my contacts. I use Gmail to set the icons. There is only a certain size which can be used. but on the D2, the same contact icons/images seem to be blown out. Like I COULD use a bigger size image, bug I dont think that Google allows it? Anyone know what size contact image the 2 can handle and a way to use that image through Gmail? So far, moving from a D1 to a D2Im not completely impressed. but it is faster and works well. except for this issue. And the moto blur crap. Also to note... when using the (HORRIBLE) motorola contact widget the icon/image IS correct. but cmon, is this widget even useful? How many people have only one number? And I need a 4x4 widget for one contact... mobile, home, text, email, etc.. BS. Really the function on the D1 of adding a shortcut to a contact is much better. add em, click the icon, then it asks you what you want to do (text, call, email, talk, etc)... the D2 still does this but you have to go into Contacts and click on the person first before getting the options.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I did a rename to the file gtalkservice.apk to *.bak. I never use the app because I have eBuddy. But since I did it I am getta the error that com.google.process.gapps is force closing when I reboot the phone. Is this caused because gtalk is gone? And why?
Now the weirdest thing is that GTalk is still there, but I've previously been successful on Visual Voicemail, and others.
For some reason it can't stay logged in, Gtalk logs in and out like every 5 seconds. I have deleted the app, factory rest, battery pulls but no luck. The factory reset was for multiple reasons.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo sometimes I'll go into my contacts and notice that some of them have the green ball lit up telling me that they are online in gtalk. Now I am not signed onto gtalk... but yet somehow I see that in my running services that GTalkService is running.
I can only assume that its eating away battery trying to see how is online and not. I certainly don't need this info unless I wish to go online myself... in which case I would actually go into the gtalk app.
ANyways, obviously i've been killing it in the running services, but it just comes back all on its own. ANy idea why or how to stop it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen adding new contacts to the droid x, it added it as both a goggle contact and phone contact. (i only have one goggle account setup). I went into contacts -> menu -> more -> settings. I am UNABLE to check/unchecked the "Phone Contacts" (it is always checked). The goggle one i am able to check/unchecked. WHY and HOW can i toggle the phone contact? Also, backup assistant only takes PHONE contacts and not GOOGLE contacts...while g mail contact sync only takes goggle contacts and NOT PHONE contacts. How can one change phone contact to goggle contact? (i have seen posts all over but no answers...and just replies saying "i have the same problem") I am trying NOT to have two (2) different types of contacts. PHONE and GOOGLE. I just want goggle contacts ( or phone contacts. so i can at least use verizon's backup assistant.

But I don't see why it needs to have an icon taking up valuable space in the status bar (as a side note, there's an icon to indicate that it's OFF, so you can't NOT have a location setting icon on there). There was no such icon on my Droid.
Is there a way to disable this icon that anyone knows of? With Wifi/3G, the battery meter, alarm clock, the time, and the bars, they take up over half of my status bar. The problem is compounded by the fact that I have a battery app that always displays the exact battery percentage on the left side (another side note; why isn't the exact percentage shown on the default battery icon?
I've got a line in my manifest that looks like this:

But I see the default Android icon on the desktop instead of the one in drawable/icon. What else do I need to do?
I'm try to use a remote URL (like a favicon) for a Notification Icon, however the Constructor for a Notification only accepts a resource id (which is an int), as opposed to something sensical like a FileInputStream. How can I either, define at runtime a new resource id for a stream source, or download an icon to my resources and then dynamically get a resource id?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HTC Evo and though I have added my information (including Gmail account) into the personal contact card, I can not assign a contact icon to myself.
This is by no means a big deal however it gets annoying seeing the man in the grey box in all my text conversations.
Some Contacts defaulted to the Contact Details as a primary. I have tried changing the primary to the call number I want for the primary. It does not seem to work. Please tell me if I am doing this correctly. I press the people button on the home page, then I press the photo of the Contact I want to view. Then I press the Index Card Icon. I am now looking at the Contacts Details. I hold down the phone number I want to make primary. It never gives me the Make Primary Option. If the Contact shows no Primary, I can set a Primary. But if the Contact already shows a wrong Primary, I can't change it.

Example:
I select February 20, 1982 and press OK
The field now shows February 19, 1982
Interestingly, when you save the contact, the correct date is shown in the field. That is, February 20, 1982
