View 20 RepliesThey are at the final battle. It looks like we might have a fight on our hands since the Palm Pre just got the free hot-spot options from Verizon. March Smart Phone Madness Finals: Motorola Droid vs. Palm Pre Plus
The main points that I like to enjoy is: Droid beat out the phone that beat the iPhone, and the Droid got further in the brackets than any other Android OS phone Some of the progress is due to hardware, some due to following (over the Nexus'), but a lot due to the v2.01 (and now 2.1) version of the Android OS. Also, this poll is open ALL weekend - it does not close until April 5th, so we have tons of time...but then again, so does the Palm Pre. Let's have at 'em!
So, today as I was rushing to get on the train after school I needed to make a phone call that would determine what train I would take. Of course, since it was time sensitive my droid decided not to make our receive calls. I would dial the number and hear nothing but silence even tho the call had connected. The party on the other end was getting the call but we could not hear each other.only silence. I had to reboot twice at which point I had a number of voice mails from the person i was calling trying to see what was happening. My phone is not rooted and I just have some basic popular apps. Is this just an occasional smart phone glitch or have others had this happen?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI guess that's what it's called? Basically where the web page/text reformats to fit the width of the screen when zoomed. There is a video floating around from The Street TV where the "reviewer" says the DX doesn't do this.I really like this feature (Evo does this quite well) and is one of my pet peeves with browsing on my Ipod Touch.Does anyone know for sure whether DX does or doesn't have this capability?I asked the guy who did the AC benchmark test and he said that the DX does do this. Someone else said that it's a setting in the browser. Others are saying that it doesn't do it.Seems like such a basic feature that I can't imagine a phone like the DX would not be able to do this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've looked (probably in the wrong places), but I can't seem to find an answer to this...I haven't been following the root scene the past few months.
I'm running UD 2.1, and loving the shit out of it. However, I have a couple questions about apps on the SD card:
-Is it possible (and/or smart) to put all apps onto the SD card?
-If yes, what's the best procedure? (partition required?)
-Does the market recognize apps to update/etc from the SD?
-Can you set apps to install to SD by default?
-And finally, if all apps are on the SD, does that remove the need to backup/restore apps when switching between roms?
I currently don't have a slow smartphone but when I had my original Droid it would really slow down until I put a new or updated rom on it. Even if I rebooted it it would still be slow. I now have the Droid Bionic and it's really fast but will it someday get slow? I guess I don't understand the smartphone technology very well, yet. Is there or will there be some sort of software that you can run that will speed it back up?

View 25 Replies View RelatedOk so we have all these great apps just in case our Droid is stolen right!? Lookout, wavesecure etc. But being a Android user myself (and not ******ed) If I stole a droid what is stopping me from booting to the recovery console and wiping the phone. Then viola! the apps are useless correct? Or am I missing something here?

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust as the title says, I am wondering if the GPS on the Droid will be able to connect and work without the phone being activated on Verizon. I would have an offline GPS app that has all the maps downloaded so I wouldn't need a 3G connection. Would the phone still be able to pick up the satellites and my position even if m not on Verizon?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI need to go to the Verizon store to have them transfer contacts from my old work phone to my Droid. Is it going to write over the numbers I already have in my phone? My second question is my Droid is rooted with BB 0.4, is that going to be an issue when I go into the Verizon store? I'm not sure they would notice its rooted since they shouldn't go into any settings but maybe someone else knows more.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI really like the device but to be honest it seems complicated and it would be my first smartphone. I was wondering would this be a good smartphone for someone who really just wants a phone for texting and surfing the web? I'm pretty tech savy with computers I suppose but I wouldn't want to be overloaded I guess I'm trying to say.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been on the fence about rooting my droid, and looking through these tutorials it looks simple enough.
1. What are Kernels and do I need them exactly
2. Do I need a specific ROM to overclock or will just a plain rooted phone work

View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving trouble to get the headphones to work consistently with my DX. I've only gotten it to work once and I have no idea how I did it...When the headphones are plugged in I can hear the caller but they can't hear me, but once I unplug the headphones the normal mic input on the phone works correctly and the caller can hear me just fine. Are there settings that I need to adjust in order for the iphone headphones to work with DX?

I need help with understanding kernels, so far all I am able to find is that I need to find out what kernels work with my phone through trial and error because even if its the same phone a kernel may work for one person but not another. So to understand what a working kernel actually is like, I need to know what apps I need in order to see the product of an installed kernel. I know they have to do with getting the fastest processor speed, while getting the longest battery life, while getting the least amount of heat from the phones battery and processor.I figure to know if a kernel is cooperating well with my droid I need to know what is a normal battery/processor temperature for the motorola droid1? and what are kernel slots? what are standard/med/low voltages?I figure battery life is up to me to decide if it is good or not.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use this browser on my NokiaN95. It's ridiculously fast and it pretty much does everything, even Flash... I've posted a link to their platform requirements page which is way over my newbie head -- so if you are a bit technically minded, can you tell me if this would work on the Droid? Also, if I would have just downloaded it to try it and it would it have NOT worked, could I have screwed something up by doing so? (I didn't try yet, thought I'd check first.) Bolt Browser - FAQ
