Ok so we have all these great apps just in case our Droid is stolen right!? Lookout, wavesecure etc. But being a Android user myself (and not ******ed) If I stole a droid what is stopping me from booting to the recovery console and wiping the phone. Then viola! the apps are useless correct? Or am I missing something here?

I've looked (probably in the wrong places), but I can't seem to find an answer to this...I haven't been following the root scene the past few months.
I'm running UD 2.1, and loving the shit out of it. However, I have a couple questions about apps on the SD card:
-Is it possible (and/or smart) to put all apps onto the SD card?
-If yes, what's the best procedure? (partition required?)
-Does the market recognize apps to update/etc from the SD?
-Can you set apps to install to SD by default?
-And finally, if all apps are on the SD, does that remove the need to backup/restore apps when switching between roms?
My wife teaches high school. My daughter is a wonderful young lady. This week at school my daughter placed her brand new htc droid in my wifes desk drawer. Since it is a violation for students to have there cell phones in class. Some student entered my wifes desk and took my daughters htc droid. The school was no help,the police was no help. Can anyone tell me if we can track this phone using gps?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been a big fan of android since I heard about it a few years ago and when my carrier finally got a android phone I jumped at it. The day the Motorola droid came out I bought it. The Motorola Droid is a great device and I am really happy with it. Fast forward last week I bought a Droid X for my girl friend and at first we both thought it was an amazing device. But after using it some more I noticed all the CRAP that comes with the phone.(she will never use skype and all the other junk) I am mad at google for letting companys like Motorola add all this useless crap on a phone with no way of removing it. Also the battery only lasts a few hours with only twitter and facebook installed on the device? Without rooting it does anyone else know a way to remove these apps?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWould it be true to say that I can merely root my Desire to remove useless HTC apps and just continue booting the ROM that is originally on my Desire (Sense + Eclair 2.1)? The reason why I ask this is because most of the new Froyo ROMS have some sort of functionality lost one way or another. If I keep my original ROM this would mean everything works as it used to before I rooted right? If so, can I add the functionality of App2SD+ onto my stock ROM? (Without going up unofficial Froyo's)

The main points that I like to enjoy is: Droid beat out the phone that beat the iPhone, and the Droid got further in the brackets than any other Android OS phone Some of the progress is due to hardware, some due to following (over the Nexus'), but a lot due to the v2.01 (and now 2.1) version of the Android OS. Also, this poll is open ALL weekend - it does not close until April 5th, so we have tons of time...but then again, so does the Palm Pre. Let's have at 'em!
Background: Bought an Eris several weeks back. Had AOnline Radio and DroidCumulus installed. Phone broke, got it replaced at store with another Eris. Tried to download both apps, could only find/download mms lite, a similar but inferior app by the same company. Emailed support, and their response was:"AOR, DroidCumulus are Security enabled apps.If your device is not categorized as secured as per android market,then you will not be able to see the app."Does anyone know what this means? Is there a setting that I can change? Why would one phone be security enabled and not another that should be identical?

Like an alarm clock or spare parts app.Or why does weather bug show up even inside the 6 hour time frame I set up for it to update.Also wondering If I use the weather bug short cut on my home screen and not the WB widget will that stop it from ever opening/updating unless I open it by tapping the short cut icon.

There is a video floating around from The Street TV where the "reviewer" says the DX doesn't do this.I really like this feature (Evo does this quite well) and is one of my pet peeves with browsing on my Ipod Touch.Does anyone know for sure whether DX does or doesn't have this capability?I asked the guy who did the AC benchmark test and he said that the DX does do this. Someone else said that it's a setting in the browser. Others are saying that it doesn't do it.Seems like such a basic feature that I can't imagine a phone like the DX would not be able to do this.

I ask for general knowledge, but also because I'm curious if my Dictionary.com Word of the Day widget (or even the app itself) is updating itself every day, even though I don't use the widget on my homescreens (and the app hasn't been opened in a while either). But Dictionary.com is always listed in the running programs list.

I goto my gmail account, I have 193 names there, including his, but on my phone I only have 183!
However, when I dialed his number, his name popped up!
Where are these contacts, and why aren't they syncing? If I do a search for his name on my phone, it does not show up either. This is a critical issue!
I went to my gmail account and 'touched' his name, changed his address from road to rd. Forced a sync, but still it doesn't show on my phone. I have my phone set to show 'all other contacts' , which is the group on my gmail account.
This may have been asked but I can't find what I am looking for in search.Anyway, we have 2 droid phones, we want to use them in the house in a hands-free phone mode, with some sort of external speakers.I found some blueant speakers for cars, and was recommended this one S1 Sun Visor model.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, today as I was rushing to get on the train after school I needed to make a phone call that would determine what train I would take. Of course, since it was time sensitive my droid decided not to make our receive calls. I would dial the number and hear nothing but silence even tho the call had connected. The party on the other end was getting the call but we could not hear each other.only silence. I had to reboot twice at which point I had a number of voice mails from the person i was calling trying to see what was happening. My phone is not rooted and I just have some basic popular apps. Is this just an occasional smart phone glitch or have others had this happen?

I'm reading some stuff in Reddit Sync, I press the home button to quickly check another app and when I go back to Reddit Sync (or any other app) it doesn't resume from where I left. Of course I can open up my recents and go from there but I'm wondering if this behavior is normal?

I know iphone has icam/Drop cam that can do this, but do the android phones have something similar where you can install cams in your house and get alerts on your phone with realtime footage,etc?I can totally relate near the end of the clip where they show a cam is pointed out in front of her yard where she can catch which dogs are dropping bombs on her lawn. I'd love to be able to do the same. Any ideas what are good cams/setup to achieve this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy work has free Wifi available for patients and whoever but you must first sign in on a main page it redirects to if your not already. Here to sign in you must accept a security certificate to be able to do this. It worked on my Droid the first day I did this and now I cannot get it to work, says it cannot redirect with no connection. Now this has happened before with my laptop and I just remove the certificate and it gets a new one and off I go. My question is where can I find these so I can delete it on the droid?

1) Is it more important now to have a "pattern-protected" lock screen?
2) Do I need to create a unique password for SU access?
3) Do I need to be more concerned malware or data swiping from market apps?
I love my recently rooted Droid but assume that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Is my assumption correct, or do I need not be concerned?

I can lock the screen and it goes black, but if I hit lock/home key again it goes straight to home screen.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm seeing so many people complaining about the new lock screen that it seems that many Droid owners aren't using a pattern lock to secure their phone. This really surprises me, the phone contains access to all your email, contacts, calendar, and any other personal data you may have placed on it, and a large percentage of you aren't even using the basic security provided by the pattern lock? Or is it that many people don't know the pattern lock exists? I just can't imagine having a phone like this that isn't secured to whatever extent is available.
