I'm looking at buying an unlocked Hero from mobile phones direct.co.uk, whenever they start selling them. I'm only hesitant about what if any support I'd lose from not buying directly from a carrier. How do Android OTA updates work on unlocked phones? Also, can anyone speculate yet how HTC is going to be handling its updates? Will it push through the carriers? If I buy unlocked and get a contract through Voda phone (who is not officially carrying the phone) will I be the last one on the block to get my updates? Or will I need to root my phone and install them all myself?

Can i udate the software once i put my at&t sim card in this ZR because the phone will come with 4.1 installed but i have read it is elligible for an update to 4.2. Aug 16, 2010Has anyone noticed that if you uncheck the box to enable the lock screen that the Droid X's screen will turn on for incoming text messages? It's rather annoying as I would rather not use a lock screen but don't want the screen turning on for every new text either. Screen stays off fine if the lock screen is enabled. This is my first Android phone so not sure if this is how Android behaves or if it's a Droid X issue.

Motorola Milestone :: Identify A Factory Unlocked Phone?
Mar 4, 2010I am planning to buy a factory unlocked milestone in India and use it on a gsm network .(vodafone India)
My question is that the how do know if its a factory unlocked milestone and not unlocked version from a european/canadian carrier( like a jailbroken iphone ).
Most dealers here sell it without a box so checking the box is not an option and most stores will not allow me to use it before buying .
So based on the external physical appearance how can i tell if its a factory unlocked milestone ?
Are there any physical differences between a droid and a milestone ?

Aug 6, 2010I have a HTC Hero provided by Airtel carrier in India and i have updated and rooted it but i guess i have a hardware fault on my phone as it has corrupted 3 of my memory cards. I wish to give it for warranty claim and i guess they wouldnt accept the phone with custom OS as there is no official udpate for Airtel India HTC Heros.
I wish to roll back the original ROM and give the phone for claim. Please help people....
Also if i manage to get another hero on airtel, can we extract the ROM from other device?

Sep 25, 2010I recently bought a Telstra HTC Wildfire and unlocked it by code to use my 3 SIM card on it. However, after unlocking my mobile, when I choose the option "use phone for data connection when wi-fi is unavailable" it doesn't work. When i go to mobile network and network operators, I select to search for networks and the phone is automatically connected to "3Telstra(3G)". They also show 3(3G) and 3 networks, but when I try to select any of them, it says that the SIM card does not allow the connection to this network. I don't know if one thing is connected to the other, but I always used my old phone for data connection with the same SIM card.

Feb 10, 2010I appear to have gotten myself into a bit of a pickle. I recently bought a 3 Mobile HTC Hero and unlocked it successfully. After putting in my Vodafone sim card and starting up the phone, it doesn't seem to be letting me access Vodafone internet. I'm guessing this is because I have the 3 version of the ROM. Is there any way I can download the brand free rom or even just fix this internet problem? This is my first smart phone and I really didn't think this would be a problem. I assumed with android boasting it's open-source-ness that branding wouldn't be an issue.

Jul 17, 2010By now everyone knows the Droid X has an encrypted bootloader that is going to take a serious effort by the Android Developers to crack so we can load custom Rom's. What needs to be done is get Droid X phones into the hands of these developers so they can get to work. Pete(Bugles Beast) won the All Droid contest so he has one and Bird man collected enough donations in just over a day to get a Droid X that he will have on 7/17. That's a start but I'd like for the Android community to pull together and lets get some donations to the developers, any amount helps $1, $2, $5 whatever the amount...skip the morning Dunkin Donuts, bagel, etc for one day and it will add up fast. I can continue to update this thread with new developers that can help us all by working on the Droid X as enough donations are collected so they can purchase their own phones. The developers create all the Roms, themes, etc for the rooting community to enjoy...lets make it a little easier for them to continue this development on all the new Android phones as they come to market.
I sent a few messages out to some developing teams and the first response back was from Cyanogen that the person he recommends is Koush. Once he has enough donations I can list another developer for us to donate to and help the rooting/unlocking cause. I received numerous requests that a donation link be setup for ChevyNo1. I contacted Chevy to see if he was interested in helping hack the Droid X which he was. Sep 15, 2010I need to go to the Verizon store to have them transfer contacts from my old work phone to my Droid. Is it going to write over the numbers I already have in my phone? My second question is my Droid is rooted with BB 0.4, is that going to be an issue when I go into the Verizon store? I'm not sure they would notice its rooted since they shouldn't go into any settings but maybe someone else knows more.
