HTC Incredible :: Text Notifications Vibration
Aug 3, 2010
Is there a way to not have it vibrate with notification sound on incoming texts and have it vibrate when I turn phone to vibrate mode. I cant seem to figure this out, I want it to vibrate when I have vibrate mode on but I want sound only when I have it off of vibrate mode. I know you can go into settings each time but I want to avoid that.

Is there a way to alter the intensity of vibration or the type of vibration for different notifications? Same goes for the LED light

When I put my Incredible on vibrate, it does not vibrate when I receive a text message. It only vibrates when someone is calling. Does anyone know what the deal is or how to change it?

I saw this question asked before with no answer (a post in April) so I thought I would ask again. Does anyone know of an app that will allow vibration for e-mail notifications when phone is set to vibrate? This has always bothered me about a device that I otherwise think is just an outstanding piece of equipment. If anyone has an idea I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Every time I receive a notification, the phone also vibrates which I really don't like. Perhaps I am just missing something but I do not see a way to turn vibration off for notifications. Is it possible?

Is there a way to make all notifications vibrate instead of sound a ringtone?

I have created an application that creates notifications, using the following code:
// Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.notification_icon, title, System.currentTimeMillis());
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
// parameters
String ringtone = prefs.getString(context.getString(R.string.key_notifications_ringtone), "");
if (ringtone.length() > 0) { notification.sound = Uri.parse(ringtone);
notification.audioStreamType = AudioManager.STREAM_NOTIFICATION;
} boolean useVibrator = prefs.getBoolean(context.getString(R.string.key_notifications_use_vibrator), false);
if (useVibrator) { notification.defaults |= Notification.DEFAULT_VIBRATE;
} boolean useLed = prefs.getBoolean(context.getString(R.string.key_notifications_use_led), false);
if (useLed) { notification.defaults |= Notification.DEFAULT_LIGHTS;
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_SHOW_LIGHTS;
} // alert
RemoteViews contentView = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.notification);
contentView.setImageViewResource(R.id.notification_icon, R.drawable.icon);
contentView.setTextViewText(R.id.notification_title, title);
contentView.setTextViewText(R.id.notification_text, text);
notification.contentView = contentView;
Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(context, MyActivity.class);
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, notificationIntent, 0);
notification.contentIntent = contentIntent; notificationManager.notify(1, notification);
The notification works, and the correct ringtone is used. However, even though the preferences are correctly activated and notification flags are correctly set (I checked by debugging), the notification never vibrates and never cause the lights to be activated. I would have blamed my phone's settings, but every other app using notifications, like messaging, gmail, and others correctly use all these features. (My phone is a HTC Hero with Android 2.1)

I rooted my Sidekick 4G yesterday and everything worked great, until I noticed that my phone wasn't vibrating for notification. I tried messing around with the settings but no luck. I get haptic feedback but no notification vibrations.
Additional information:
Rooted with SuperOneClick (latest version, I'm pretty sure).
FROYO

One little thing I miss on my Blackberry was that I had it set to vibrate once for Social Network notifications, twice for an email and three times for an SMS. That way I knew how important it might be and whether to take it out of my pocket. My T-Mobile G2/HTC Hero (1.5) doesn't seem to have the option to change the default "vibrate twice". Is there any way of changing it? Or an app that might do it?

Can anyone recommend an app that will extend the vibration time when a call comes in and for notifications. I find the vibration strong enough (coming from a BB 8900, the Hero is twice as strong) but the vibration time is a little short for liking.

I have uninstalled all my sms messaging apps except for the default HTC messaging app. Every time I receive a text message, I get 2 audio notifications, and there are two icons on the notification bar. When I pull it down, one of the notifications sends me directly to the message, and extinguishes one of the icons. The other icon simply says "you have an unread message", and when I click on it nothing happens, and the icon never goes away (unless you hit clear) on the notification pull down menu.It seems to me like I have two messaging programs installed, but I have gone over the list of apps for an hour and can't seem to find it.If it helps, the icon looks like a postcard, with a vertical line down the middle., black and white.

I am using Handcent text application for my texts.It is far superior in my opinion to the default application. Problem is, I am getting two notifications every time I receive a text.I referenced this thread:Multiple notifications when receiving text..Saw the guy had reverted back to the default message program.That is not what I'm looking to do.Want to keep the third party program, I just don't know how to get the dual notifications to stop.

Love my Incredible but one glaring issue I'm having I'm hoping to resolve here. At work I am in tons of meetings and conference calls and having a ring tone blast out isn't accepted too well So when I get to work I turn my ringtone volume down to VIBRATE and when I get a call, since I have my phone bare in my pocket, it vibrates and I never miss a call.
But as soon as I change to VIBRATE MODE, all the stuff for NOTIFICATION SOUND under SETTINGS is grayed out. If I go under MESSAGES and SETTINGS, the check box is checked for PLAY NOTIFICATION SOUND and VIBRATE.
I just tested this several times and with the phone in saver mode (screen timed out and is blank), I get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING when I get a text message. No vibrate, buzz, blip or anything. If I call my phone it vibrates for the incoming call fine. BUt for a text message... NOTHING!
Since I *HAVE* to use VIBRATE MODE at work, how can I get the phone to notify me when I get a text message? Kind of important to me as an out of state relative was trying to text me information about my mother's surgery and I was not getting any notification on my phone.

How do I turn off repeat email/text notifications? I only want it to tell me once when something new comes in. Mine alerts every 5 minutes until I clear it. This drives me up the wall when I'm sleeping, driving, playing on the phone, etc...

When the INC is sleeping I can feel the vibrate or hear the notification sound, however, it won't wake up or let me know that I have something waiting for me just by glancing at it from a distance if it's sleeping. This isn't an issue if I am in a quiet environment, but otherwise it is. I have checked all the settings and there doesn't seem to be a way to make this happen.

I have a question about vibration with text messages. I don't really want my phone to vibrate when I receive a text message, and I know how to turn that off. It's fine when I have the ringer turned up, but when I am in a movie or somewhere where I have my phone on vibrate, it doesn't vibrate when I receive a text message. Does anyone know how to make it vibrate when receiving a text message when the ring volume is on vibrate, and not vibrate when receiving a text message when the ring volume is up?

I have my phone set on multiple short vibrates for txt alerts... and it does that, but for some reason now when i get a txt from my wife its a long vibrate instead of multiple shorts... I still have all the settings on multiple shorts so i dont know WHY it changed just her to a long vibrate and i can figure it out... I have shut my phone off multiple times but it still does it...
I have a droid X ... and I am using handcent. only thing I can think is different is i downloaded "Task Manager" the other day? but it just started this issue today.
I know its very minor but it annoys the hell out of me because I cant figure out how or why to change it. I have even changed the vibration to custom settings and it works on every txt but from my wife...oh i forgot to mention that this morning i downloaded angry birds... and maybe the issue started after that? i went to play angry birds a little bit ago and it wasnt anywhere in my app list for some reason...i couldnt find it anywhere. went to the market and it showed it as being installed, so i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it then showed up as being back in my app list? beats me why? love this phone but i feel way over my head with this thing. i've had it for 5 days now.

anyone know how to turn it off? after the update to 2.1, this feature seems to be gone. seems the only way to turn off vibration when receiving an incoming text message is to put the phone on silent. but then you miss incoming calls. also, my htc weather widget doesn't work either. keeps saying "no weather data available", no matter if I have the mobile network on or Wi-fi. anyone else having this issue?

I have turned off all vibrations on my phone because I can not stand them. The only ones I can not figure out is when making a call. When dialing numbers, it has the haptic feedback for each number, and when you press send it vibrates for an outgoing call. Any one know how to turn these off?

How do I turn off the vibration notification while I am on a call? If I am on a phone call, and I get a text or email, the phone vibrates. I want this feature of course while I am NOT on a call, but while on a call people on the other end of the call have described it as a duck being murdered. I have tested it myself and cant disagree with them.

So i wanted to see if anyone else has the same issue as me. I have my settings so that my keyboard only vibrates (no sound!) for sending texts BUT it makes a clicking noise sometimes when I press the keys. This is really annoying and no. Hard reset does not help. Has anyone else experienced this. my phone is the HTC Incredible.
