Surface flinger turns off all pixels except for certain colors on OLED displays. Turning on only the red display results in a MUCH increased battery life. Looks like something to be included as an option in new Roms & such.

Is there a setting, or an app, to turn the display red?
I do a lot of science-type stuff (astronomy), and also photograph at night. I used a red-tinted flashlight, so as to not ruin my night vision. I would love to be able to use my phone while shooting, or doing astronomy stuff out in the dark, and not have bright white glow from the phone.
I am looking for an app that might let you record or see in the dark like night vision ( not the fake app ) A few of us are gonna play in the dark with a fun board we all know and some think that is a very creepy and we see if we can see what happens on camera . Any apps out there for this ?
View 6 Replies View RelatedNight before last, I charged the battery to 100% before I went to sleep. When I was going to sleep, I unplugged it. When I woke up 7 hours later, it had only dropped 30% to 70%. I did the software upgrade, and the battery jumped back up to 80% and lasted a Long time. Well, last night, I did the same thing, and when I woke up, my battery had dropped to 50%. The phone was supposedly sleeping this whole time! A few minutes on the browser to look up the issue brought me down to 40%.
All I installed yesterday was YellowPages, WhitePages, Flikie (then uninstalled it) and LauncherPro (could this be the culprit?). Before I went to bed though, I opened GMail, and it was having trouble connecting to the server and finally gave me a "retry" button because it couldn't connect. I never pressed it and just went to sleep. WiFi, GPS, everything was off, and the screen was set to lowest brightness (which doesn't even matter here.) Why it dropped so much?
So i really like the clock function and the ability to use it as an alarm clock next to my bed. I set it in the mode with the quarter moon and star. What m worried about is the effect on my LCD screen. It seems to be running all night but in a dimmer mode. Is it ok to use the feature every night? Will i end up ruining my LCD a lot faster?

Except that the Home, Menu, Back, and Search buttons seem to stay brightly lit. Aside from covering these with my hand while using the app, does anyone know if there is a way to disable this?

I am thinking about something like the GPS do, White backgrounds during the day, black at night etc etc. Any ideas on how to do this? I have lowered the brightness all the way down but that is still too bright.

Because of this difficulty, I am unable to search and find web browsers that support inverted mode. Google search will always come up with tutorials on how to turn on inverted mode in the ICS browser, which this RUU version doesn't support.
Where can I find a list of browsers that support Inverted Mode/Night Mode?I do know Dolphin Browser dropped support for Night Mode.
Im using Prestigio PAP4040 with stock android 4.0.4. on it and among other bugs i discovered one pretty nasty. Phone reboots while taking picture using night mode, without LED fash turned on. I dont know why is that so, but i tried everything to see is it the camera app, android system or just phone. So, how to diagnose where the fault is or to solve?

UC browser had this night mode earlier but latest version they have removed this feature. Ideally such app should be time sensitive & as the night time approaches it should start applying the night mode.
Sounds like the Eris has a feature to disable 3G, which saves tons of battery life. Anybody know if the Incredible will have the same feature? Seems to involve disabling a "mobile network" setting:

Just wondering if underclocking my Incredible will save battery life during the day-I can't use my phone much at work-maybe when I go somewhere to pee or grab something to eat-that is about it. I wouldn't care about speed during the day..say if I underclock it to like 400 MHZ, would that save a lot of battery life? I would set it to normal once I was done with work.

Personally, I forget to turn my WiFi off immediately most of the time when I leave the house and may remember later. If this is unchecked, does it help save battery life by keeping the phone from searching for networks?

I don't put it on the charger at night if the battery is above 20% and the last couple nights my battery will be near 30% and when I wake up in the morning it's dead?! My feeds are set to update 12 hours apart which is usually around 7am, and I thought it was the auto task killer but I shut that off. The only thing I can think of is my alarm?! But really?

I fully charged the phone while sleeping last night and now the phone is down to 40% with almost no usage (10 hours). I checked the battery manager and it said the display has used 94% of the battery which is extremely odd, seeing as how I haven't really used the phone at all today. The brightness is set at 40% and screen timeout to 30 seconds. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I suspect it may be a rogue application, unfortunately the Droid X does not show what applications are eating the battery in the manager.

I have not downloaded any new apps, and have hardly any apps that would take up battery life honestly. Any ideas on what to do? Or is it just time to go into Verizon and see what they say?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm having this issue with my tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1). During night when I sleep sometimes it drains about 30% of my battery. Now, I noticed that in the up and download icon the upload icon is almost ALWAYS on. Meaning that it is uploading something that I did not gave any permissions for, which is rather annoying. The wifi isn't working good as well, as in not receiving messages or able to view websites, it used to work fine tho.. These kinda things are the reason why I hate Android an regret buying 2 tablets and a phone of it. Anyways before y'all mention, this is what I've done so far:
-I'm NOT running any apps on the background.
-There's no facebook or any social media apps. Just Whatsapp. (those are the only allowed for background purposes).
-I've reset the router.
-I've rebooted the Android device.
The device is NOT rooted or anything and is barely 6 months old. Additionally, I DON'T have this uploading or wifi problem with my iPad, iPhone or BlackBerry's. My other Android tablet has wifi issues as well. Also Android seems so slow and buggy..? Compared to my iPad, or Ancient BlackBerry for that matter.
What is keeping my phone awake through the night and hence draining my battery rapidly. I am going to post screenshots and BetterBatteryStats dump file to make it as clear as possible.
Basically, what I see is that the phone was mostly awake at night and was in deep sleep only for about 1 hour. I don't think it is normal.
