As it may be a little while before Froyo is available for the Incredible I wonder if it might be possible to port Froyo's browser with flash support to Android 2.1. Ah the things you dream up when stuck at work doing data entry all day.

HIGHMEM support for RAM >256MB
Does that mean 256 meg of the memory currently in the HTC Incredible is unaccessible? IE we really currently only have 256meg not (512-DeviceSpace) on the Incredible or what does that mean? Is the upper side of the memory completely taken up by the device peripherals at this point? (Assuming this works as a normal kernel layout where the devices take the high address space).
I have a wi-fi adapter and I can make an ad-hoc network from my PC but can't use it as an access point via Connectify or Virtual Router. I tried getting a physical router, but had so many problems that I eventually gave up! I know there are lots of programmers out here, so can anyone put up a hack/mod for supporting ad-hoc networks on the Droid 1?

View 23 Replies View RelatedI have a Droid running the recent Froyo update. I'm wondering if there is a way to root my phone and do something (install an app?) that will allow me to use the phone as a wifi hotspot without installing a custom rom? I'm not a super adventurous user (mostly concerned about speed/stability); I would just like to utilize this feature if possible.
If it isn't possible to do this without installing a custom rom, is there a rom available that makes minimal changes to the standard OS just to enable a few missing features like tethering and wifi hotspot?
Lots of good tips here from Incredible users:
I Hate You Froyo 2.2
Just wondering if anyone can confirm this or not. I have been reading that Verizon / Motorola have pulled Froyo 2.2 all together. When you go to Motorola's support page for 2.2 Android software you get an error page that says permission denied. Not sure whether to manually update to FRG22 or wait until the OTA update comes out if ever.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLike the the post says my wireless tether no longer works( at leat not fast ) with any of my 2.2 nandroid backup I have all the wireless thether downloads ( the 2.0.2 and all the 2.0.5 versions ) and they just stoped transfering or transfer really slow. By slow I mean it will take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute sometimes longer for a page to load. This is the case with all my 2.2 roms Damage Control 3.5, Baked Snack 1.0 and 1.5, Fresh 3.something and even my stock 2.2 rooted rom. This is the case with any kernel and I have been using various Kings, (but tend to stick with Netarchy's kernels) All with the same problem. Everything else works flawlessly.
This wouldnt be a big deal except I use wireless tether everyday for homework so it is a must have for me. I had to use the tether feature on my wifes Palm Pre (you know how that made me feel) I have her phone overclocked to 800mhz and it felt as if her battery was going to melt or explode, which usuall happens if you use it for too long. I had to get an Ice pack and put a towel on it to keep the phone cool while tethering.
I even tried it with flashing new room and kernel and the only app being all the versions of the wireless tether. That still was a no/go.
I however did find a solution but not a good one. I had a nandroid back up of a HTC 2.1 stock rooted rom with Nand unlocked and with the FPS un capped. This however when I look for wireless networks to connect to on my computer, it shows up as 3computer connected together instead of the 5 escalating bars like in the att comercials (dont ban me for that)
but it works perfectly and lightning fast. The version I'm usuing is the 2.0.2 version not any of the 2.0.5 versions.
I know this is a bit drawn out but can anyone explain why this happened? I mean it worked one night and the next it didnt. Or can someone can someone explain why it works on 2.1 and not on 2.2?
I miss some of my 2.2 feature but there are none that I can't live without but I would like to be on the latest software version.
So we heard recently that Flash will be supported by the 2.2 release. Has anyone heard about PDF support? I am reading an RSS feed and it has some notes in PDF format that I would like to display within my application.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOkay, so I am totally going to be new to the android phone. I am so excited! I have a question, and fear it may be a stupid one, but will ask anyway! Do I need a wireless router for my Droid Incredible to connect to Internet? Or will the phone connect to the Internet like my LG Dare already does (click on icon and it goes to Internet)? Or can I connect both ways? Do you know what I mean? I am supposing that that if I had a wireless router, that would allow me wifi connection. Is that faster than just using the phone on its own?

View 1 Replies View RelatedA buddy at work got an Incredible and he entered email address and PW and everything was set up for him automatically, full email/contacts/calendar sync, PIN lock/wipe set up.I was looking through some of the screen shots of the Incredible Exchange support, and frankly, Exchange support on the Incredible kicks the Droid's a** in this area.Image Gallery: Verizon HTC DROID Incredible; Functions and Applications | ZDNet Photo Gallery I'm impressed. HTC must have done a ton of work in this area, assuming that the basic exchange functionality in 2.1 on the Incredible is the same that comes w/2.1 on the Droid. If that support could be ported to the Droid (either as an entire ROM, or just the exchange support sliced off) that would be amazing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA new FroYo version has been released for the Moto Droid, found here Motorola Droid Froyo build FRF84B leaked | Android Central well this isn't the newest and most exciting news for us incredible owners but my question is how hard would it be to port it over seeing as the both are cdma devices, both on verizon and almost the same amount of pixels. obviously there is some BIG difference between the devices such as hardware but i was just wondering. maybe combine the Nexus gsm FroYo and the Moto Droid FroYo update?
View 2 Replies View RelatedDroid incredible OTA update will be pushed on ???? to phones and to a lucky few before that date. My source says it will have the 720p as well as wifi hotspot, as well as the back end, speed, and battery life enhancements. They also mentioned that there would be some new htc widgets and better skype support.take it for what it is worth but i will try to get some visual evidence.if anyone is getting the ota on there phone please post a picture here!
Update 1
720p, 802.11n,3g mobile hot spot, New HTC widget for email, New HTC widget for news, Amazon MP3, New pop/imap email updates
UPDATE 2
Source says that It looks like this might only be a minor update and not full 2.2 from reports of people getting it already. We will have to wait and see to know for sure.
UPDATE 3
I am sorry to say that i have far less faith in my source after this blunder... now things may have come up such as a problem with the update or the fact that they are pushing out updates for the Droid x, droid Eris and the BB curve right now and the data load would be too much. What ever the case i thought that my source (who has been a very reliable one) would be right on but apparently something has come up. I'm sorry for getting everyone's hopes up but at least some good came of this.(leaked OTA) next time I will be a little more general with any dates that I put out.Verizon all but confirms Droid Incredible's getting Froyo soon | Android Central. So the latest rumor is that it will come out on the 18th of august.lets hope that this time it is true!
I have the update.zip file meant for the Incredible. Before I brick my phone: I've allowed non-sanctioned software in Settings. 1) Will this allow me to use the 2.2 meant for the Incredible, and 2) will it brick my phone? I have the procedure to root the phone and install the 2.2 ROM that way, but this seems easier. Plus, can I then unroot?

View 34 Replies View RelatedAs I was clearing my entire inbox, someone texted me at exact same time. Now that message is stuck and will not go away. It will start randomly streaming in my notification bar, and at the bottom of the unlock screen. When I click on the person's contact information, it always shows I have a new SMS message from them. If you attempt to click it to read it, it just says "loading" forever. Also, when I receive a text it will show that I have 2 new texts since that other one is stuck there and technically still "new" since I can't click it. This has been there for days. I tried restarting the phone, I tried taking the battery out, I tried some program called SMS cleaner.. that thing will NOT go away. I've received texts at the same time I was clearing them with 2.1 but I never had this problem until the upgrade to Froyo. Anyone know how to get rid of it or will I need to do a hard reset?

Tasks that used to be so simple, like editing a contact or sending a text, are now unwieldy by comparison.Who else here has had to do this? Am I alone in having to deal with this?

I looked at the 3G Hotspot feature on the incredible and of course i tried it just to see if it would work and it doesn't. You just get a verizon page when you try to browse the web. I know in the past you had to root to be able to tether wirelessly. With Froyo does that still hold true or is there some type of app you can download off the android marketplace? I don't know if i'm big on rooting my phone. Verizon i think will charge $20 for the convenience right?
