Anybody running a Froyo mod on the Desire, does Wireless N work? I'm not fussed about the speed increase but it would be nice to be able to use my phone in the garden with the extra range

Like the the post says my wireless tether no longer works( at leat not fast ) with any of my 2.2 nandroid backup I have all the wireless thether downloads ( the 2.0.2 and all the 2.0.5 versions ) and they just stoped transfering or transfer really slow. By slow I mean it will take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute sometimes longer for a page to load. This is the case with all my 2.2 roms Damage Control 3.5, Baked Snack 1.0 and 1.5, Fresh 3.something and even my stock 2.2 rooted rom. This is the case with any kernel and I have been using various Kings, (but tend to stick with Netarchy's kernels) All with the same problem. Everything else works flawlessly.
This wouldnt be a big deal except I use wireless tether everyday for homework so it is a must have for me. I had to use the tether feature on my wifes Palm Pre (you know how that made me feel) I have her phone overclocked to 800mhz and it felt as if her battery was going to melt or explode, which usuall happens if you use it for too long. I had to get an Ice pack and put a towel on it to keep the phone cool while tethering.
I even tried it with flashing new room and kernel and the only app being all the versions of the wireless tether. That still was a no/go.
I however did find a solution but not a good one. I had a nandroid back up of a HTC 2.1 stock rooted rom with Nand unlocked and with the FPS un capped. This however when I look for wireless networks to connect to on my computer, it shows up as 3computer connected together instead of the 5 escalating bars like in the att comercials (dont ban me for that)
but it works perfectly and lightning fast. The version I'm usuing is the 2.0.2 version not any of the 2.0.5 versions.
I know this is a bit drawn out but can anyone explain why this happened? I mean it worked one night and the next it didnt. Or can someone can someone explain why it works on 2.1 and not on 2.2?
I miss some of my 2.2 feature but there are none that I can't live without but I would like to be on the latest software version.
I tried defrost 2.0f and opendesire 2.3a. Everything runs fine but i cant get mms to work. I am sure i typed carrier information in correctly.Is there something i overlooked?

I'm wondering if there is a way to root my phone and do something (install an app?) that will allow me to use the phone as a wifi hotspot without installing a custom rom? I'm not a super adventurous user (mostly concerned about speed/stability); I would just like to utilize this feature if possible.
If it isn't possible to do this without installing a custom rom, is there a rom available that makes minimal changes to the standard OS just to enable a few missing features like tethering and wifi hotspot?
I cannot seem to get my wireless tether to work. My phone is unrevoked 3, fresh 2.2, netarchy kernel, latest tether software that supposedly fixed it. It is set up identical to my wife's who is 2.1, unrevoked and hers works fine. Slow compared to my t=mobile HTC HD2 tether but it works. WHat could be wrong with mine. I tried using it through bluetooth and no dice.

I;m not sure whether this problem is due to a ROM upgrade or me just being stupid but i cannot connect to the internet on my orange hero unless im hooked up to my home wireless? when i go to use the internet without wireless on i get the message "web page not available. check to make sure your device has a signal and data connection.reload this web page later. view a cached copy of the web page from google? im assuming its a problem with my settings but dont know how to sort the prob out.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have the original Droid. It is rooted with easy root application. I had originially installed 2.2 from a non-ota update site. Rooted my droid and installed wireless tether. It worked great. I then received the OTA update for 2.2 FRG22D. Now wireless tether won't start up. I also tried using Barnacle Wifi Tether and it is getting a permission issue. It won't prompt me to grant superuser permissions to this app. So I need help either getting wifi tether working or figuring out how to grant superuser permissions to Barnacle to get that working.

I tried shutting down the house router, and I just could not connect. I have Ubuntu installed on an sd card so I booted said netbook into that. Wireless tether works fine there. I plugged my phone into the computer with the USB cord and selected mount and ran the app and hit the big green wifi icon to connect. What else do i need to do? or if anyone has got links to how to get this app to work that would be great too. Oh and also when i connect the USB cord, on the notification bar and triangle with an (!) mark shows up and talks about some debugging stuff. I previously had my wireless working just fine at home but since I changed my subnet, (new dhcp and dns server installed), the wireless will no longer work. I went from 192.168.0.x to 192.168.10.x.
The wireless seems to connect but then when you browse it will not find anything. It is like it still has an old IP and doesn't know the new route and DG. I did "forget network" and reentered the key etc., but no success. Is there a way to investigate exactly what settings it has or reset everything so it has no idea about old network settings?
So my setup at work is pretty slick. My network internet connection at work is restricted and monitored as is similar in most corporations. My technique to avoid the proxy is this...
Plug a USB wireless adapter into the PC, Run a virtual machine with the virtual network adapter pointed to the USB wireless adapter. I run wireless tether on the EVO and boom my PC stays in tact on the corporate network, so email and other network activity works and appears normal and is routed thru the corp LAN, but when I want to browse the web I jump in my VM which is routed thru my EVO.

Cannot get wireless tether to work anymore. It gets superuser permissions, My laptop detects the network, it connects to it, but I cannot load any pages and nothing is being sent up and down except for 3-4 kb.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, resets, etc. My root seems to be fine.
Any suggestions on how to get it to work? it used to before i switched to the newest leaked 2.2 rom (8/26 or 27 i think) with the bloatware already uninstalled.

I got TP-Link 108M wireless router at home and all my 4 PCs and 1 wireless cam connected to the router with no issues for 1.5 years. But ever since I brought in my HTC-Desire last week, I experienced dropped connections almost everyday. If I switch the Desire off, then every thing gets to normal. Have you experienced same? Is this something I can overcome by set some settings?
