May 26, 2010So we are pretty sure this is coming to Froyo. How can VZW tell if our tethering is wireless? And what does you guys believe this is going to do with our plans?

View 23 RepliesI really want to use a Froyo Rom, right not I'm looking at KaosFroyo and Nonsensikal, but I'm not sure how to get Wired Tether to work. I'm running xtrROM right now and It works fine, but every time i flash KaosFroyo, I try to run Wired Tether, and no luck. Can someone walk me through how to run Wired Tether on a 2.2 ROM?

View 25 Replies View RelatedSo I loaded the new release of froyo petes v.04 and earlier when trying to use the built in wired tether option it defaults to a web-page about upgrading to a tethering plan. It says that they are offering it for $5 off until july 15th. Wireless tether still works fine but just wanted to know if anybody else got this message when using the built in program on the new froyo release. I was able to use this option in the earlier versions of froyo without the message. Update, so I completely missed this already reported on phandroid so I guess I was just getting the message others have already reported.
View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning Fab's NexTheme ROM that has Wired and Wireless Tether. Problem is Wired Tether doesn't work for me. The program runs without a problem, but my laptop that is connected to the Droid via USB cable doesn't access the Internet. Drivers and what not are all updated - just curious to know what the problem is. Funny thing is that when connected via USB normally, my laptop recognizes my Droid with no problem. It's only when I run the Wired Tether program that all of a sudden my laptop no longer recognizes my phone and, as a result, won't access the Internet.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLike the the post says my wireless tether no longer works( at leat not fast ) with any of my 2.2 nandroid backup I have all the wireless thether downloads ( the 2.0.2 and all the 2.0.5 versions ) and they just stoped transfering or transfer really slow. By slow I mean it will take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute sometimes longer for a page to load. This is the case with all my 2.2 roms Damage Control 3.5, Baked Snack 1.0 and 1.5, Fresh 3.something and even my stock 2.2 rooted rom. This is the case with any kernel and I have been using various Kings, (but tend to stick with Netarchy's kernels) All with the same problem. Everything else works flawlessly.
This wouldnt be a big deal except I use wireless tether everyday for homework so it is a must have for me. I had to use the tether feature on my wifes Palm Pre (you know how that made me feel) I have her phone overclocked to 800mhz and it felt as if her battery was going to melt or explode, which usuall happens if you use it for too long. I had to get an Ice pack and put a towel on it to keep the phone cool while tethering.
I even tried it with flashing new room and kernel and the only app being all the versions of the wireless tether. That still was a no/go.
I however did find a solution but not a good one. I had a nandroid back up of a HTC 2.1 stock rooted rom with Nand unlocked and with the FPS un capped. This however when I look for wireless networks to connect to on my computer, it shows up as 3computer connected together instead of the 5 escalating bars like in the att comercials (dont ban me for that)
but it works perfectly and lightning fast. The version I'm usuing is the 2.0.2 version not any of the 2.0.5 versions.
I know this is a bit drawn out but can anyone explain why this happened? I mean it worked one night and the next it didnt. Or can someone can someone explain why it works on 2.1 and not on 2.2?
I miss some of my 2.2 feature but there are none that I can't live without but I would like to be on the latest software version.
I need help getting wireless tether working. it shows that that its beaconing but when i search for it under wifi on my laptop nothing shows up. (My aunts phone) Rooted Lg Ally with velocity V0.3, Turbo 4 kernel overclocked to 787 Mhz
View 3 Replies View RelatedI haven't rooted my X, but I'm considering it. I like the idea of wireless tethering. I have a question tho. After you root, do you use the wireless hotspot app already on your phone, or do you need to download another app to use. I'm not quite brave enough to try this yet, but as a previous BB Storm user I tried nearly every upgraded OS that was leaked and never had an issue. The universal androot app looks pretty fool proof.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI already picked up some good tips but am having a lot of problems with my droid. I will start with the tethering issue. I have mine done with smoked glass and it has the wireless tether installed. It will open and my computer will sync up with it either secured or unsecured and then you will see a several seconds flash of bytes in and out and then the kbps will drop down to 0 and I will be unable to connect to the internet. I have read that newer versions may solve the problem and that if I dont have my ordinal sd card in, it might be the problem since the info may be needed? I did try copying those folders onto this card but still no good. The android one to be exact. If the only option is to remove this tether and install a new apk one, how do I that? I cant seem to find it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if it is possible to use the wireless tether utility with the nintendo ds lite. I have tried it with and without a wep key and with and without access control, but I always get error code 51300 or 51301. I don't know if this is because it seems like there is still some sort of mac filtering (which is not supported by the ds) even when access control is disabled. Is there anyway to preapprove a certain mac address or has anyone been able to get their wifi connection to work with the ds?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi saw the other 2 posts and i will try them once i get home from work, however i must add, my wireless tether for root users shows a connection but not a wifi connection, just a computer to computer connection, with no internet available when i connect to it with my laptop, is there something in the settings that i need to configure? im going to uninstall with titanium backup and reinstall hopefully, it will work, but i will repost on this thread, whether it works or not, but if someone can let me know how the config is supposed to be laid out i'd appriciate it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI feel like I have done enough reading on knowing how to preform the root on my phone, but I am just curious as to how I get different features like wireless tether, or any tether for that matter, without having to download easytether or PDAnet. Is hot spot even available on our phones?
Do custom kernels have these features built in? If so, what is a good kernel to use with OMJ's post on rooting the droid without RSDlite?
I really just want my phone to act like it acts and look like it looks now, just have additional features and maybe overclock it a bit.
I just installed the wifi tether. i opened the app up, changed my ssid, and pasephrase. I then went to my laptop to search for wireless networks and I can't find my droid. What could I have done wrong. also...i thought maybe I had to turn on wifi in the phone settings. when I went to turn on, it said it was unable to turn on wifi. I went back to the tether and turned it off but the phone settings still could not turn on wifi.

It acts like its crunching away when I open the browser and then I get a "limited connectivity" pop up on the computer. The phone only shows like 3kb downloaded and 30k uploaded. Any ideas or is my connection just that slow? I am using bugles 0.8.6. on the droid.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to save money right now because things are tight and I was thinking about getting rid of my cable internet and using wireless tether for my home computer. Is there any way to be online (wireless tether) and on a call at the same time?
View 3 Replies View Relatedso how do i get this app to work. I just rooted with the sholes mod updater rom. I plugged my phone into the computer with the USB cord and selected mount and ran the app and hit the big green wifi icon to connect. What else do i need to do? or if anyone has got links to how to get this app to work that would be great too. Oh and also when i connect the USB cord, on the notification bar and triangle with an (!) mark shows up and talks about some debugging stuff. What is that? does that have something to do with the wifi?Rep for who ever helps me get this thing to work.
What are the differences and/or advantages to using Wireless Tether vs. "hacked" 3G Hotspot, which I've been seeing people talk about recently? I was under the impression that Wireless Tether is a free option for wireless hotspot capability - is using the hacked 3G hotspot less detectible or something?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to use Wireless Tether with my laptop and have noticed that it is extremely finicky. It usually works for a minute or two but then I can't load anything at all on my laptop. I'm not doing any heavy activity or anything, just browsing some websites, but it does this consistently. I have to toggle it off and on and reconnect my laptop before I can use the internet again. No error messages or anything, it just gets stuck at 0.0 kbps on my phone as if my computer isn't communicating with it anymore.
Does anyone have this problem or is this just a common limitation with ad hoc networks? Is there another solution out there? I'm using the leaked Froyo rom but noticed this with the official 2.1 rom too. Doesn't 2.2 come with built-in hotspot capabilities? I wouldn't mind using wired tethering either, but it looks like that won't happen until we can get a custom kernel?
