HTC Incredible :: Cracking Noise In Ear Piece / Stop This?
Aug 9, 2010
I recently got a call from a friend of mine, and his voice came through crystal clear, but when I would talk, I would hear this cracking noise in the ear piece. I have pretty good reception where I am, so I don't know what's causing this problem. Anyone else experience this?

Has any one else noticed a beep after a minute during a call.
this only started happening after the 2.1 update. the beep sounds like i am getting another call. also phone calls seem to be draining battery rather fast lately, a three minute phone call will drop my battery from half to yellow.

Ok, I'm quite confused. I've had my Samsung Captivate for about 4 days now, and today when i plugged it in mid-day to charge (om nom nom battery life) it started emitting random, extremely obnoxious high-pitched beeps about 2 times per minute. It does it whether or not it's on A/C power, it even does it when the phone's powered off but the battery's in there, I just don't understand why or how to stop it.
Phone is awesome otherwise! Anyone having this issue/ know where it's coming from?

All of a sudden, I can't hear anyone when on a call using the ear piece. Speaker phone works fine, but when I toggle back - nothing. The other party can hear me just fine. I've tried rebooting, removing the battery and even plugging in and unplugging a pair of headphones (that I never use with the phone, anyway), but to no avail. It's dead to my ear - no "open air" sound - as if it's not even on.

Got my Incredible yesterday and I have noticed a problem that is really bugging me. When I call people, at random my ear piece seems to give a noisy/scratchy feedback. The other party does not hear it, but I hear it through the ear piece. It is not when they speak, but only when I do, as if the microphone is producing feedback that comes through the speaker.
I have also noticed that I found myself asking what people say a lot, as if though they are muffled or using the speaker phone when they are, in fact, not.
I called Verizon and they are going to have me swap it out at the store tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this issue. Hopefully it is just a rare incident.
I feel Verizon has it out for me since they also ported my number when my phone was still with FedEx in Memphis. Either that, or I just have really bad luck.

One thing the Incredible doesn't have that the Nexus One does is the fancy noise cancellation technology. I'm a little surprised at how little this is being mentioned and I'm also puzzled at why this feature was dropped since on paper it sounds like such a good thing. Does anyone have experience with how well it worked? Did it not work out as well as planned, was it a cost saving measure to drop it, or does nobody actually talk directly into their phone anymore?

Can I just make it so that my Droid will only vibrate when I get a new e-mail, instead of vibrating AND making my text message noise?

Is anyone else's wall charger making a high pitched whistling noise when you have it plugged in? If I put the wall charger itself in the outlet without the usb cable inserted, it sounds fine. As soon as I plug the USB cable into it, it starts making the noise.

I'm experiencing a static/hissing noise on headphones with my incredible. This is particularly noticeable on the small in ear headphones/earbuds during quiet portions of music, or if you have music playing and turn the volume down to zero, and for a short time after pausing music (until the audio jack is powered down. Is anyone else having these issues? Can anyone confirm that some phones do not have this issue?
I love the phone but this is almost a dealbreaker for me as it somewhat kills the whole idea of not needing a separate music player, though it can be somewhat worked around by headphones with online volume controls, decreasing volume by about half and boosting iron the phone.

So i wanted to see if anyone else has the same issue as me. I have my settings so that my keyboard only vibrates (no sound!) for sending texts BUT it makes a clicking noise sometimes when I press the keys. This is really annoying and no. Hard reset does not help. Has anyone else experienced this. my phone is the HTC Incredible.

I got my Incredible on 4/29, and have loved every minute with it. My only complaint is that when I am actually on the phone, the callers on the other end hear a lot of background noise. The microphone seems to pick up everything. I cannot even talk on the phone if I am in an environment that has any ambient noise because callers are bombarded with the ambient noise. On this note, I was just wondering if there was any way to change the microphone sensitivity and back it off a little bit so that it is usable in environments that contain some ambient noise.

I have replaced my Evo4g digitizer following a major fall. I had to replace the lcd screen as well. Since then, my Evo has had to have the digitizer replaced twice in the past two weeks due to it cracking. It cracks with very little, if any pressure is put on it, as it is in my pocket when this occurs. Why would my digitizer keep cracking? What could I have possibly done wrong during the replacement process that would cause the digitizer to crack?

I've been toying around with backtrack and wep cracking. I was wondering If you emulate Backtrack on your android which I have 5r2 running on it right now. Is it possible with the wifi chip to inject packets and put the device into monitor mode.
[URL] .....
There you can make drivers for linux. Plus this makes me wonder more: (Get Monitor Mode/Injection/Aircrack working on Galaxy S Devices) [URL] ....
Plus I read the g1 can possibly do it, so would the thunderbolt be able too? if so. So where do I start?
My Main point is if Android is base off Linux, why isn't there aircrack for android?

Anyone elses Haptic feedback on the 4 touch-buttons make a "crack" sound sometimes? I noticed that I hear it more when I hold the phone in landscape with the screen slid up. It still vibrates, but it also delivers a very interesting crackling sound and the vibrate usually feels weaker than normal when this happens. I think I will turn it off because it always feels like i'm breaking it by pressing them too much lmao.

I'n currently having a problems with my HTC One SV.
My problem is when I start playing music, I notice that there's pop and crack once in awhile eventhough Beats is off/wifi off/air plan mode on... the pop and crack keep on appearing with other music players. I tried with different devices and I'm pretty sure my mp3s are just fine.

I was one of the first in Nashville to receive my phone after preordering at bestbuy. Got it Friday morning and spent all day Friday and most of Saturday playing around with it. Saturday night i was fiddling with the front facing camera to see what sort of photos it took, and i hit the shutter button and then it happened!
Literally - a flash of smoke and a spark with this unforgettable sound of cracking glass. Some sort of short has caused my main speaker (the earpiece) to completely fail, the front facing camera no longer works, and there is a diagonal crack from the Sprint logo at the top right down about 1/3 of the way down the screen on the left side.
Called Best Buy, and they're going to replace it, as soon as they get more in. Oh well. Everything else works, so i'll be using a lot of speakerphone until the replacements arrive.

Considering writing a wifi cracking (wep, wpa) auditing tool for the android platform, but I am wondering if it is possible to do without a rooted phone.
I had thought it would be impossible to run on an unrooted phone due to the phones wifi chip ignoring packets not addressed to the phone. That is, without the ability to set the wifi chip to monitor mode many of these attacks wont work. I was surprised to learn that android supports multicast packets. That is, android phones can be set to receive packets not addressed to them.
My questions are: Does having a multicast lock mean I can receive all packets broadcast, or does it only apply to packets with a multicast flag (if such a thing exists)?
Is there a difference between monitor mode and multicast? Does the android api have a system for switching channels?
More generally I'm curious: Is anyone familar with other wifi cracking projects running on android (google searches turned up very little)?
What difficulties am I likely to run into?
This question is related to SO question Is there anyway to put Android WIFI (droid handset) into permiscuous monitoring mode?

So I went from leak 2.1 v2 to v3 last night and then did a factory reset. And this morning I've noticed a green LED that is now on inside the ear piece. This is not the LED notification light. This is underneath the ear piece mesh. I've never noticed that before. Has it always been there, and I was just not observant enough? Anyone know what it's purpose is? I couldn't find anything on it elsewhere in the forum.

I'm creating a simple game for Android and faced with a problem: Idea is to have a huge "map" image file and re-draw only small part of it (320*480) depending on user actions.
I didn't find a better solution than using "public static Bitmap createBitmap (Bitmap source, int x, int y, int width, int height)" method and decided to try it (expected huge performance degradation), but actually it's appeared that this method changes source bitmap and when i call it second time source size is significantly reduced. For instance this code:
