I read the various rooting guides and noticed that there's a key combo that you can press to get into the 'Recovery screen' which is both the "home" and "power" keys. I can do this with my Telus Android 1.5 so I'm guessing I can just download another rom and install it from there, right? I'm not sure why I would need to use the so called goldcard method. If someone could provide insight to this, I'd appreciate it.

My hero bricked on me - when i hold down power & back keys i get in to a screen with the 3 androids on skateboards, can I flash a fresh rom from this screen? and if so - How?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my keyboard that only seems to have started since I installed the Hero firmware update (which has sped up the phone considerably).
When I first got the phone I was really impressed by the Keyboard and the speed at which I could type. But since the update it is really slow and keys on the right edge of the screen (especially delete) don't register at all sometimes.
I have calibrated the keyboard but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
I have posted this here because you guys helped me root my Hero with Villain ROM 12, and I wondered if there was a connection...
Since rooting the phone has worked fine for 2+ months, however I now have a MAJOR problem, in that the touch screen is behaving very erratically.
It started with the lower menu bar (All programs, phone and + ) not responding. Now if I touch any icon the phone button goes green, or the phone screen comes up, however I cannot enter any numbers! Sometimes I get a random icon flashing round the screen and I can steer it with my finger, but not activate it!
My concern is that if a have to do a re-set or reinstall, I may not be able to do a backup first, as the relevant keys wont respond. Does anybody have any ideas? Might a re-install of the ROM help?
Basically my phone is running "old" 1.5 firmware and it's UK orange, unlocked. I know I can update the phone with the Oranges firmware update, but what will happen when I do it, will the phone lock itself again to Orange, or?I tried searching for the answer on these forums but didn't really find the correct answer so here I am.And if it locks, what choices are there for me when it boils down to updating the phone?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my Hero using superoneclick, worked like a charm. I downloaded ROM Manager and was looking to start experimenting with ROMs. For starters, I figured I'd load one of the ROMs already preloaded in ROM Manager (free version).
So I downloaded the ROM which seemed to go fine, clicked on it, followed the prompts which eventually led me to reboot into recovery mode via Clockworkmod to "complete the installation." So I got to the reboot screen, here's what it looked like (below). What do I do from here? Where did the ROM download to? How do I "complete installation." Thanks.
Not sure what to do once I reach this screen. It already asked if I wanted to back up the current ROM and wipe, which I agreed to. when I downloaded the ROM it didn't ask me where I wanted to save it to, when I got to this screen I looked in the SD card by clicking "install zip from SD card" and didn't see it there. Where is it?
I am trying oh so hard to partition my SDcard, but to no avail. I've tried to do it this way: *** How To PARTITION SDCard *** - Android @ MoDaCo but my phone won't boot to the recovery screen for some reason, all I get is an image of a phone with an exclamation mark. This is driving me nuts, if anyone can help me I would REALLY appreciate it. Using an unbranded GSM Hero, Modaco 2.9 installed.
View 35 Replies View RelatedI rooted a friends phone and when I try to get to the recovery reboot screen it freezes on the HTC screen, I have to remove the battery and boot normally, and it works just fine. I have rooted two other hero's with no problems. I've tried a wipe and doing the process over again and the same thing happened.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my hero has some difficulty with certain areas of the screen when pressing on those areas in keyboard mode. When in vertical keyboard mode the l, p and backspace keys take multiple presses to get the letter to enter. I do not know if this is something to do with the capacitative touch screen or is perhaps a defect in the device. Has anyone else had this issue?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I know this has been a recurring problem, the quick keys at the bottom of the screen being purple.But no one has ever figured out what to do about it?Is there a way to cover them up or something so they aren't visable at all?It may be my OCD acting up, but i feel disgusted at the prospect of having to look at a phone whose 4 buttons are different colors for the next two years.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI bought a Cobalt SP300 on eBay and one of its faults is that the power button on top is a little shallow and hard to push...unfortunately it's the only way to wake the screen. I really want to use the volume keys to wake up the screen. I've tried a button remapper app (didn't work correctly) and tried an app called No Lock which disables the lock screen and allows you to wake the screen with the volume keys. The problem with it is that it only works like 10% of the time and I like the lock screen as well.
I think my only other option at this point is to manually try to edit the files. I found out how to root my phone and then through root explorer went to system/usr/keylayout and there is a file I think maps the buttons: mt6575-kpd.kl
I find

So I see the volume keys say WAKE_DROPPED instead of just wake. According to a search I did by what the dropped part means, it should still wake the screen but it doesn't. Would it be sensible to edit these to only wake? Do I chance bricking my phone doing this? I tried to backup my phone using MTKDroidTools but I can't get the backup function to work...
I was smsing this morning on my HTC Hero using the normal virtual keyboard that came with the phone. But all of a sudden, the keyboard changed into something different.
The keys became smaller, the number keys are with the alphabet keys(on top), and there is an extra key to toggle to tamil(?) characters. And when I type, there is no more 'feedback' from the screen. The auto correct feature is gone too. how to get my old virtual keyboard back?
I am not sure if this is a handset problem or a software problem. When i am typing the keys almost seem to stick, i no tht is not possible as iot is a virtual keyboard, but i think you get the jist of what i am trying to say. Is there anyway of correcting that or is there a better like for like keyboard out there that i can use.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have added a couple of soft keys through navigation_bar.xml in SystemUI.apk. The soft keys show great, but are also showing on the lockscreen, when the others "disappear".
The added ones are Menu and Search, the order is Home, Menu, Recent Apps, Back, Search. This is to be the same as my desire hard keys. I know, no point in it, but have just got used to the soft keys so much!
Anyway, here is my coding, I have removed the android:visibilty="invisble" attribute to no ill effects...I have also added the relevant strings and ids in their respective places..

Could it be to do with the ID's? (I know that when I made the center clock, I added the "@id/clock" and it made the clock "disappear" on the lockscreen, where taking it out the clock stayed in the status bar!)...
Any way to map on screen bluestack keys to the pc's physical keyboard?
I know it's a long shot, but does an app even exist on android or windows that can do that?
I want to keep the Hero in my back pocket, replacing another phone. I carry another larger (no jokes) device in my front pocket.
The screen can turned on and unlocked (not pattern lock) by pressing the "menu" key twice. Or, "End/Power" and then "menu". In my back pocket, my @$$ apparently pushes on these buttons randomly and sometimes turn on the device.
I do not wish to use pattern lock, it's too many steps. I am used to S2U2 on WM and it's fast.
Are there any applications that can modify the behavior of the buttons or the turn on characteristic of Hero? It would be nice to disable the menu key from unlocking the screen.

I can't see any arrow keys on the keyboard to move the cursor around in a text entry box. So, when I want to correct a typing mistake I have to stab my finger somewhere to the right of the error then backspace over the error (usually deleting a few correct characters in the process) before retyping. There must be a better way.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am getting some serious battery drain with Fresh 3.2 and netarchy-toastmod 4.1.9.1 cfs ( i have also used the stable 4.1.8) and I am getting serious drain. Here is a screen shot from today. Unplugged phone around 7:30 and by the time I took the screen cap at 8:30 i was down 25%!! I used the phone to RDP to my house for maybe 3 mins (using pocket cloud app).I also played 1 youtube clip ( katy perry on sesame street XD~~ 1.:30 mins long) Thats all I have done so far. Do you guys think I should try a different combination? I pretty much have everything turned off on the phone. No GPS, sync i think every 4 hours. Using launcher pro, and beautiful widgets.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI may just be losing it, but is there a way to reboot the Epic via key combo? i.e. to reboot the i Phone you just continue to hold power, to reboot a blackberry you do crtl + right caps + delete...but there doesn't seem to be any way to reboot the epic and it is really, really annoying. Been having this bug that Tasker is causing and I need to reboot the phone every morning, and I need to do it once I get away from my home wifi, so when I walk out of the building I have to keep fiddling with the on and off buttons while walking...long story short I would really like an easier way of doing a quick and easy reboot that doesn't require extra steps to turn the phone back on once I've turned it off.

I'm a heavy user, and I just think the incredible can be more efficient than it currently is.
I'm running the Skyraider 2.5.2 vanilla rom and King Kernel BFS #1.
The King Kernel is great when the phone is on standby, but when I am doing some web browsing or more, it drains the battery very fast.
I've also tried the Hydra Kernel stock speed undervolt. That seemed to give moderately better battery life than the regular .32 kernel.
I don't care about overclocking, 1ghz is plenty fast for me.
