For some reason my hero has some difficulty with certain areas of the screen when pressing on those areas in keyboard mode. When in vertical keyboard mode the l, p and backspace keys take multiple presses to get the letter to enter. I do not know if this is something to do with the capacitative touch screen or is perhaps a defect in the device. Has anyone else had this issue?

I want to keep the Hero in my back pocket, replacing another phone. I carry another larger (no jokes) device in my front pocket.
The screen can turned on and unlocked (not pattern lock) by pressing the "menu" key twice. Or, "End/Power" and then "menu". In my back pocket, my @$$ apparently pushes on these buttons randomly and sometimes turn on the device.
I do not wish to use pattern lock, it's too many steps. I am used to S2U2 on WM and it's fast.
Are there any applications that can modify the behavior of the buttons or the turn on characteristic of Hero? It would be nice to disable the menu key from unlocking the screen.
I am stuck.My main activity creates and starts a SurfaceView.My app needs to access a listview via the options menu to change properties of the items shown in the view.Two strange things occur:
1.) When I scroll the listview quickly, the list sometimes gets farklempt.Words overlap each other.
2.) When I select the item and the app returns to the main activity, the thread is no longer alive.
If someone out there can offer help I will post the code.This will take a little effort.My code is loosely based upon LunarLander and the GLSurfaceView examples.If there is a good example (more recent example) someone can point me to, that would be boss.
Question, obviously asked in several previous threads, but I'm unable to resolve the next issue at hand with that data. When I power on, and hit hboot, I'm still seeing S-On, yet if I log into abb shell, su, I get "#", as well as now having the icon for "Superuser Permissions". Used both unrEVOked3 and forever in this process.
I've attempted to install the radio update "PB31IMG.zip" via root of SD card. I'm able to see / install it, yet baseband is still showing 1.00.03.04.06. I have W7, and have the option to "Hide extensions for known file types" off (Can't stand not seeing exactly what files are what). What am I missing? I've seen that others have had to do the "*22899 then *228 option 2", yet If it doesn't show it as being a valid install, I'm hesitant to try and reinstall it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to the new beta of swype and since then have found one minor issue. when i try to loop on a letter to do a double letter like the t in the word letter, i have difficulty doing so. I have to make a very large loop that only crosses over the letter, rather than looping on top of it like i used to be able to do. i'm not sure if this is just something to do with a setting that got changed or if it is a bigger issue.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI read the various rooting guides and noticed that there's a key combo that you can press to get into the 'Recovery screen' which is both the "home" and "power" keys. I can do this with my Telus Android 1.5 so I'm guessing I can just download another rom and install it from there, right? I'm not sure why I would need to use the so called goldcard method. If someone could provide insight to this, I'd appreciate it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was smsing this morning on my HTC Hero using the normal virtual keyboard that came with the phone. But all of a sudden, the keyboard changed into something different.
The keys became smaller, the number keys are with the alphabet keys(on top), and there is an extra key to toggle to tamil(?) characters. And when I type, there is no more 'feedback' from the screen. The auto correct feature is gone too. how to get my old virtual keyboard back?
I am not sure if this is a handset problem or a software problem. When i am typing the keys almost seem to stick, i no tht is not possible as iot is a virtual keyboard, but i think you get the jist of what i am trying to say. Is there anyway of correcting that or is there a better like for like keyboard out there that i can use.

View 6 Replies View RelatedDespite everything I have read about the difficulty of making low latency audio apps in Android, I am giving it a shot. To start, I loaded each note in an octave into a SoundPool, and then looped through each note that was to be played on that beat and called play(). This didn't even come close to being accurate enough for me, and got especially bad if a lot of notes were being played at once.
From what I read, the only way to do something like this is to mix the audio yourself, though I am not entirely sure how to go about this. My initial thought is that for each beat, I could precompute the sound the sound that is to be played (i.e., combine the wav's), and then pass that stream to an AudioTrack when it is time to be played.
Are there any good examples out there for how to mix audio like this, or libraries I could use to do this for me? How have coders of other music apps dealt with this?
My hero bricked on me - when i hold down power & back keys i get in to a screen with the 3 androids on skateboards, can I flash a fresh rom from this screen? and if so - How?

Everything was going great until I added the code from the alert dialog section. The code they give alone gives me an error when I try to run it on the last line, saying I must initialize dialog, but I feel like I'm getting the NullPointerException no matter what the case is.If I don't instantiate "dialog" to "null" at the beginning, I cannot run the program. I'm not even trying to do anything crazy yet, any help would be great because I'm having alot of trouble trying to figure out what exactly this code is trying to do.

So, when I want to correct a typing mistake I have to stab my finger somewhere to the right of the error then backspace over the error (usually deleting a few correct characters in the process) before retyping. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my keyboard that only seems to have started since I installed the Hero firmware update (which has sped up the phone considerably).
When I first got the phone I was really impressed by the Keyboard and the speed at which I could type. But since the update it is really slow and keys on the right edge of the screen (especially delete) don't register at all sometimes.
I have calibrated the keyboard but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Since rooting the phone has worked fine for 2+ months, however I now have a MAJOR problem, in that the touch screen is behaving very erratically.
It started with the lower menu bar (All programs, phone and + ) not responding. Now if I touch any icon the phone button goes green, or the phone screen comes up, however I cannot enter any numbers! Sometimes I get a random icon flashing round the screen and I can steer it with my finger, but not activate it!
My concern is that if a have to do a re-set or reinstall, I may not be able to do a backup first, as the relevant keys wont respond. Does anybody have any ideas? Might a re-install of the ROM help?
after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?

If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings.If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

View 1 Replies View Relatediv heard ppl who downloaded android 2.2 online and installed it themselves on there phone since its not being offered ota. but im wondering if its safe? the phone is not actually getting 2.2 ever, so doing this would be my own choice. but im wondering if it will run smoothly, better than 2.1 update 1, and if there will be any problems or if anything that may not work because of compatability problems with the phone. because some people have said that 2.2 isnt being released to the hero because the phone is not physically capeable of it do to software and hardware (such as space ram speeds etc.), and others have said they installed it themselves and it works fine, that its actually made to run using less space then 2.1 making it better.
