I am facing difficulty in placing the soft keys at the bottom of the screen. I have two EditTexts in my layout and then i want the space to be empty and then place the soft keys "Save" and "Clear" at the bottom of the layout. But not able to do. Tried using layouts and Gravity.

My soft keys at the bottom randomly go crazy, either the home key or back key will start flashing and vibrating and and exit whatever im in the middle of doing then it will stop, it does it randomly, but its really annoying, I wonder if I just got a defective unit?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI know hardly anything about Android but here goes. I just upgraded from my Hero to an Evo and got my g/f a Samsung Epic. I played with both phone all evening and really like certain feature on each. I like her overall user interface more than mine. She has the four "shortcuts" at the bottom of the screen which I think is pretty cool but I have all the slick HTC widgets.. Is there a way to make my UI have the "shortcuts" at the bottom like her phone without loosing my widgets? I figure I could search around and load her interface on my phone but then I figure I will loose the HTC factory stuff.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter successfully rooting my phone, after my reboot i noticed that the bottom row of touch sensitive keys and the physical keyboard do not light up when touch or slid open. to fix this i have to go to the brightness setting and uncheck and check automatic brightness again?
is this common? did i make an oopsie?
I am not able to find out the perfect layout(viewgroup) to place four buttons as shown in the attached image. Basically, i want to place four buttons near the top/left/bottom/right edge of the screen. AbsoluteLayout helped, but it is deprecated (It is also better to avoid AbsoluteLayout as it is not very flexible for orientation changes)
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I know this has been a recurring problem, the quick keys at the bottom of the screen being purple.But no one has ever figured out what to do about it?Is there a way to cover them up or something so they aren't visable at all?It may be my OCD acting up, but i feel disgusted at the prospect of having to look at a phone whose 4 buttons are different colors for the next two years.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have added a couple of soft keys through navigation_bar.xml in SystemUI.apk. The soft keys show great, but are also showing on the lockscreen, when the others "disappear".
The added ones are Menu and Search, the order is Home, Menu, Recent Apps, Back, Search. This is to be the same as my desire hard keys. I know, no point in it, but have just got used to the soft keys so much!
Anyway, here is my coding, I have removed the android:visibilty="invisble" attribute to no ill effects...I have also added the relevant strings and ids in their respective places..

Could it be to do with the ID's? (I know that when I made the center clock, I added the "@id/clock" and it made the clock "disappear" on the lockscreen, where taking it out the clock stayed in the status bar!)...

Since rooting the phone has worked fine for 2+ months, however I now have a MAJOR problem, in that the touch screen is behaving very erratically.
It started with the lower menu bar (All programs, phone and + ) not responding. Now if I touch any icon the phone button goes green, or the phone screen comes up, however I cannot enter any numbers! Sometimes I get a random icon flashing round the screen and I can steer it with my finger, but not activate it!
My concern is that if a have to do a re-set or reinstall, I may not be able to do a backup first, as the relevant keys wont respond. Does anybody have any ideas? Might a re-install of the ROM help?
My galaxy s2's screen has occasionally stopped responding, the os was still running and everything so it wasnt frozen, my touch screen just simply stopped working. Only way to fix it was to hit the back of the phone and do a battery reset. This issue started poping up more and more, and now it won't respond.

No custom roms/kernels have ever been installed, has always run off the stock. Never been dropped or had water on it (I took very good care of it).
The nav bar at the bottom (back/search/options/menue) and hardware buttons all work. Everything above the screen no longer works.
What iv done: I've reset the phone, did a bettery pull for the night, fully charged it, looked at the board and checked all the connections (all good). Would flashing a custom rom/kernel be something to try next? Why would the bottom nav bar work but no the rest of the screen? Could it be locked somehow? If it is.. how would I unlock it?
The "Next" key seems to move to the next item that could interact with the keyboard.
The "Done" key is less clear to me. It sends in a KeyEvent.KEYCODE_ENTER event. Is it possible to distinguish this event from the down-and- left-arrow key that also sends in a KeyEvent.KEYCODE_ENTER? It appears that you get either but not both "Done" or down-and-left-arrow buttons on the soft keyboard.
Am I missing some documentation about this?
Is it "good UI" to have the "Done" key execute the action that would normally be done on an "OK" button? E.g. for a username and password dialog that has two text fields and an OK button the user touches the username field, gets the soft keyboard, types, presses "Next", types, presses "Done" and the dialog submits the username and password and goes away.
Or is it "good UI" to force the user to explicitly touch the OK button? Possibly having to also manually dismiss the soft keyboard if it covers up the OK button.
My issue is the soft keys don't light up most of the time. Are there settings for these? Does anyone know if there if anyone else having this issue?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the issue where the the four soft keys always glow.(the home key extc always stay lit but can only tell in a dark room) so i was thinking about goin in and swapping my phone for a new one. but, with the new software (the 1.47) is the root the same? i have a mac and now a windows machine so the simple root app wont work for me.so should i just keep my phone and deal with the lights? or swap it and try to figure root out some how

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering. Is there an app for changing the soft keys on my Samsung Vibrant to only activate when pressed long or double clicked? I am just sick and tired of accidentally pressing them because they are so damn sensitive, and unlike the Fascinate or Epic 4g, so close to the touch screen that pressing spacebar on the onscreen keyboard half the time results in hitting the soft keys by accident. I don't understand why we can't customize what the soft keys do and how long or many times activates them, because if you got even normal sized finger tips, it's so annoying to be typing into the search bar and then press back right below and have to retype everything again.

I have just got CM9 on my Xperia Play and I was just wondering if it was possible to enable the soft keys especially enabling them on when the phone is in portrait. The soft keys from ice cream sandwich for my phone since the menu key doesn't work very well and for some reason I have to push it down very hard to get it too work.

But really, it's just annoying, as in direct light, i can't see the keys whatsover thanks to glare. Thus, my questions: 1. is it normal for the soft key lights to turn off? and 2. is there any way to override this and have them on at all times?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there any app/hack/widget to keep the backlights on the bottom buttons on just as long as the screen is backlit? So annoying how quickly they go off. Equally as annoying is how quickly the screen goes to sleep after you get a text. It literally stays on for 2 seconds, so I have to press the power button then slide/unlock to get to my text. Needs to be an option to keep it on for longer (10 seconds).

Here is the problem:
My back button has always seemed a bit glitchy and one of my friend told me to hit *#*#2663*#*# and hit "Touch key FW update".
I did that and my back button was acting even worse so I went back in and hit "TSP FW update".
Now my buttons do not work at all! I read somewhere that old me to do a factory reset but I really REALLY don't want to as I cant even backup my stuff in Titanium Backup Root because I have no menu key.
Both times the update came back with a pass and there was no error.
Looking to remap my home key, and my menu and back soft keys on my s3. I've looked at editing scripts, and even Xposed modules for this and here is what I found.
I can remap my keys manually, but I cannot map them to open an application.
With Gravity Box Module, I can map the applications to launch on a double press or a long press.
Here is what I want to do with a single tap.
[MENU SOFT KEY] [HOME KEY] [BACK SOFT KEY]
Open Phone Open search Open Camera
Is there an xposed module for this?
I am a 4.2.1 Jelly Been user. & my Hardwere keys( Menu Key , Home Button ,& Back Key) are not working anymore. but my screen works fine. How to add soft keys on screen without rooting my device? I am using apps from google play which can enable Home & Back soft key without rooting my device. But i dont want to use any app like that because it prob a lot. How to add these three keys without using any app from play store? how to do coding ? & will be great if the menu key is also be enable on screen with out rooting my device.
I have seen post which tells how to enable the on-screen navigation buttons but it required root. Home & Back button code will be fine too if without root. & will be great if with menu key.
how to split the status bar and the soft keys on a crappy rebranded tablet? It runs 4.1 but the notifications, volume buttons and soft keys overlap each other making it look an eye sore. I have taken a look in the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk but can not find anything. What I want to do is split the two a bit like the nexus 7, so that the status bar is at the top and the soft buttons are at the bottom.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm on my 3rd Eris - replaced each one for the silent bug. This one hasn't gone silent yet, but the soft keys (home, menu, back, and search) don't light up. Major PITA when using the phone at night. When I took it back to Verizon,they said the buttons aren't supposed to light up. Now I'm second guessing myself. So, can someone with an Eris check it out on your phone and see if the buttons light up? Is there a setting for this that I'm missing? BTW - This last replacement shipped with 2.1 installed and hboot 1.49.

I then tried the menu button and it worked. I then tried the search button and it didnt work.Is this a known problem and if so how do i fix it? If theres no fix will verizon give me a replacement?

Anyways, my main concern with this phone is the 4 Soft Keys below the Samsung logo. I will address my issues/concerns/questions in the following list:
--How bright are your soft keys when backlit? (In comparison to other Captivates or other Android devices)
--Mine seem to have a slight yellow/brownish tint to them. Anybody have pure white, or anything different?
--The Home button: is your roof slightly different sizes when comparing the left to right. (Yes, I am aware this is nit-picky. not worried or bothered, just curious)
--Finally, my responsiveness on any of the 4 buttons is spotty at times. Especially once pressed when they are no longer lit. Have many others experienced this, and if so, which button(s) in particular give you trouble?
Just brought a Droid Eris. Love the phone. There is one thing that is really getting on my nerves. Is there a way to disable the bottom keys (Menu, Home, Back, Search, etc etc) from vibrating when touch? Even when I dial a number the keys are vibrating (haptic feedback) I've read the manual. Just havent found a way to stop it
