I have see others stating that a Class 4 or even Class 6 card on the Euro HTC Hero has improved performance by 400%. Now while I know "400%" is a little out there and even sounds exaggerated, I am curious what this group of people has seen or heard. Does a better MicroSD card improve overall performance?

My question is, has anybody got any measured improvement in frames per second by using VBOs instead of exactly the same content without VBOs? If and only if so, what were your fps results? And can you therefore show me the "proper" way of doing VBOs instead of not? Has anybody else got exactly the same fps with and without VBOs?

However, on my machine is slow even after that.The 'phone' responds with a 3-4 seconds delay and everything has a huge lag.Is there any way to improve the performance of my laptop (Asus 1201N) is too rusty for the Android emulator? Tried in different emulator resolutions and the result is the same.My laptop has 2 cores with HyperThreading. And it shows as 4 CPU in Device Manager. However, when using the emulator, just one of the graphs is at 100%. Can I do something to make it work multi core?

Oct 15, 2009The game I am working on uses SoundPool for sound effects and MediaPlayer for background music playback. Input happens entirely through the touch screen, with a 20 mS delay after each processed MotionEvent. Sometimes (very rarely) it happens that the background music gets interrupted for a fraction of a second during input. Do you have any ideas how to ensure MediaPlayer continues audio playback during touch screen input? All audio files are in ogg format with various sample and bit rates. Would it be an advantage if all audio files would share the same samplerate and/or bitrate? Do you have any other ideas how to improve audo playback performance?

Dec 3, 2009Will Android 2.0/2.1 improve performance? The Eris is a cool phone and all but it simply cant keep up with me. There is nothing wrong with my phone also. I have rebooted it and have 80mb free memory. Same thing at Verizon store display phone. It just cant keep up and the lag and waiting periods (1 second or so) are annoying me. Yes one second is alot of lag time when you are trying to do things. It sounds like "only one second" but there are 100 of these one second lag times all over the phone. Im not even an "expert" or "hardcore" user.
Anyon know if Android 2.0 will run faster? Playing a simple MP3 while trying to navigate the phone increases the lag times. Why dosnt the older iphone 3g have these lag issues when they both have equal CPUs?
When will Google and HTC aknowledge the MAJOR issue with the ENTIRE phone slowing down the a crawl once available RAM goes under 30mb. (common with all Android phones) Is it SO hard to have the ability to shutdown apps and automatically remove them from ram when Im done using them? This is the same stupidity Windows Mobile went through back in 2003. Yes I understand that Android will remove unused apps from RAM to make room for the next one but this is where the lag is coming from. The entire phone slows to a crawl unless you free up some memory with 3rd party apps.
HTC Droid Eris :: Instantly Improve Performance In 2.1 OTA?
May 25, 2010I have a couple friends with the Eris that went from loving their phones to hating them shortly after receiving the 2.1 OTA upgrade. They were quite happy with 1.5, but were looking forward to 2.1 - because I bragged about the improvements in the leaks.
I was playing around with their phones last night and they were having serious lag when scrolling, receiving calls and switching from portrait to landscape mode. I turned off window animations completely and those issues went away immediately. The phones are now pretty speedy.
If you're looking for that setting, it's under: Settings > Sound & display > Animation > No animations.

Jan 1, 2010I've always said that the Behold2 is a great looking phone. It has software/OS issues for sure. However, I don't use the cube so, that bit of nonsense doesn't get in my way. The laggi-ness does get on my nerves because it slows things to a crawl much too often. Sometimes programs or the TouchWiz slider don't open when they should. Frozen-ness happens too.
The scary part is that I have very few third party apps installed. Sometimes the controls for the Media player don't show up at all. So you can see why I am reticent to install anything beyond what I consider to be essentials so as not to over-burden an already beleaguered setup.Considering these known issues, why were we ignored on the Android 1.6 release? We weren't graced with 2.0 either. Now 2.1 is on the horizon and there is no word about its being sent our way. I'd like to think that Samsung or Tmo wants to keep us happy so that we don't jump ship in a few days. I could dump this puppy because I am within my 14 days and am not a happy camper.
Questions: What if anything will an upgraded OS do to improve the performance of our processor? Or, what improvements might we expect with a new OS release?

But if I have a lot of resources, my project is saving, compiling and launching during relatively long period of time. Android :: Want To Improve Scrolling Speed
Mar 30, 2009Currently, attempting to scroll when the text view has large amount of text makes the app completely unresponsive. It doesn't ANR, but it doesn't respond either. I've tried occasionally removing some text from the text view and removing some spans also, but it doesn't seem to help much. Any idea how to improve scrolling? It takes ages to scroll up or down. I also tried throttling touch events but it hasn't helped either.

Oct 29, 2010What kind of performance are you seeing with 6.1? I'm pretty unhappy with the speed it takes for the app slider, page scrolling and all that. I didn't run a quadrant score, I'm not really bothered about numbers. I switched to LP, that didn't help. Also, snap kernels are not playing nice with 6.1 yet (anyhow, the snap kernel features are reportedly built in), so nothing there. I'm back to myn2.2 with overclocking and it's smooth as silk.

Mar 19, 2010I'm hoping to get a little insight here from the members of the community that have devices that are not rooted, or from members that have experience prior to their rooting. Before I go into my questioning, I do want to preface this by stating that I have considered rooting my phone in the past, and have even tried (but failed) using the PreKitchen. Since then, I have made a definite decision that I will not be rooting my device. I have done TONS of research and reading on the topic, have asked and have had answered a lot of questions, and I've just decided that I do not want to do it. Yes, I understand the pros of doing it, I just choose not to. That being said, I would respectfully ask that those who take the time to respond to this post, please don't suggest rooting.
Ok, so I've owned the Hero since October, and for the most part, it has performed only marginally. The quirks, odditys and under performance issues I have experienced are nothing different from what has been talked about on this board, or others. Some issues, however, have been persistently bad, even after the "typical" troubleshooting methods have been used. Additionally, some of the things I've seen my device do haven't been talked about, or at least not in great detail, by many people. Some of the issues that I am experiencing, I am hoping that 2.1 will cure, however, I've come to a breaking point where I don't want to wait it out for the upgrade to finally release, only to find out that it didn't help. I've talked to Sprint Advanced Tech Support a few times and they seem to believe that it's a faulty device. Whether or not that is their response because they are stumped, or if the device actually IS faulty is what I'm hoping to figure out. They have agreed to send a replacement device to me, so I'm trying to get a feel for what to expect. Below are some of the issues I'm experiencing:
1. Wifi will not stay connected 85% of the time, despite a strong signal.
2. Apps take quite a bit of time to respond. The phone, however, does not seem to lag all that much. Screens respond pretty quickly and swiping is pretty smooth. Apps just take quite a bit of time to open/respond, even if still in "running" mode in the background.
3. Browser and other data requesting apps take quite a bit of time to get data, despite a strong EVDO signal or strong Wifi signal.
4. The phone's antenna seems to be weak. I can barely get a signal in my office (a one story building, sitting close to a window) and I'm in a heavily populated city. I've never had a hard time getting any less than 3 bars on any other Sprint phone in this location. Additionally, in areas where reception should be strong, I've found my phone switching between 1x and EVDO for data, and Roaming for voice.
There are other miscellaneous issues as well. I also want to stress that all of the typical troubleshooting methods have been done. I hard reset the phone last week and cleaned house, and am still seeing these issues. Prior to hard resetting, I had around 25-30 MB of free space on the phone. After the hard reset, I'm around 75 MB of free space, so that doesn't seem to be an issue. Text messages are cleared off the phone as they come in and program caches are cleared out daily. As for the signal issues, that's something I can't figure out, and neither can Sprint Tech Support, which is why I'm getting the replacement. My questions to the community are these:
1. I know that some of the issues I have listed are common among Hero users, however, does troubleshooting (clearing caches, texts, etc) solve the issues, or do they persist?
2. Has anyone had signal/data speed issues?
3. For people who have had replacement devices for issues similar to these, did the new device work better, or is this just a function of the device? One of the main reasons I ask these questions is because if this is going to continue to be an issue from device to device, there is no need to waste time continually swapping phones. I think at that point, I'll just have to wait for 2.1, hope it resolves the issues, and if not, cross that bridge at that time. I've expressed concern to the Sprint reps about receiving a refurb device. They had stated that it isn't up to them what gets shipped, however, they did advise that if a refurb was shipped, to send it back and go to a repair center to return it (in hopes that they have new phones on hand). I'm truly hoping that this is an issue with my device and not the Hero itself.

Mar 20, 2010I have had my Hero for a few days. My prior phone was the Palm Pre. The pre was a great phone and when webos 1.40 came out, video recording was great. The downside of the phone is that it felt that I was holding an egg and the overall build was horrible. Not to mention that the screen would go funky if it was used for more than 5 minutes. I went with the Hero because I love HTC phones. I've heard so many great things about it. I have issues with taking pictures and recording videos with this phone. The picture quality is horrible and so is the video recording. I have only recorded one video...its of my 5 year old singing (25 seconds) and it looks like she is possessed! It appears that the phone cannot keep up with movement. I know it doesn't have a flash and I know how to adjust the settings. Even in bright light everything appears washed out. Are there any fixes or 3rd party apps that could resolve this? Will the new 2.1 update improve things?

Oct 5, 2009My Hero has the latest ROM and is running on O2. when i get an MMS, the picture quality is terrible. i have been sent MMSs from different phones (inc. iphone) and different networks. The pictures look great on the phones on which they were taken, but appear low resolution when received on my hero. I can't find any setting to increase the quality. I do notice that when I open the received photo in albums, it is super tiny. So it looks like the Hero (or Android) is shrinking them. Are there some settings I can change? I can't find anything that appears relevant. Or else an app that will help?

Android :: How Does Emulator Performance Compare To Real Device Performance?
May 23, 2010I'm looking into writing an Android game, tough I don't curerntly own an Android device. For those of you who own a device, how does the performance on the emulator relate to real device performance? I'm especially interested in graphics related tasks.This obviously depends on both the machine running the emulator, and the specific device in question, but I'm talking rough numbers here.This question is a duplicate, but since that post is heavily outdated, I figured it's irrelevant by now.
