View 2 RepliesI finally received my Sprint Hero yesterday and have been using the hell out of it since. Today, I rooted and installed Fresh 2.3.3 and I'm loving it so far - in fact, I'm using wireless tether right now, as where I'm at, I have no internet yet. The thing is, I'm wondering how to overclock now. I've been attempting to read-up on it and it sounds a little complicated, almost as though I need to rewipe my phone and set everything up again. Is this the case?
Looking at this, I've been trying to decipher it:
[KERNEL][7/22/10]Darchstar's Overclocked Undervolted kernel for senseUI roms vUV 2 - xda-developers
What exactly is a module remover and why do I need to do it? Moreover, I didn't see an option to flash a new kernel (maybe I just wasn't paying attention) when I was in the RA or whatever it's called. I'd love to get my Hero running a little bit quicker. Otherwise, I'm loving the thing so far.
I was wondering if someone could help me with improving my speed and performance on htc hero.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm sorry if this has already been asked. But i already searched. Every time i make a video it has horrible quality and the sound quality is horrible too. A 5mp camera should be able to have very good quality don't you think? My friend has the i phone and i'm pretty sure its not better than 5mp and its video quality is amazing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know there are thousands of posts on this forum discussing how to improve the overall battery life of the Hero. Most people advise others to root the phone or buy a larger battery. However, most people forget that there's a lot you can do without taking such drastic measures. I've found that simple lifestyle changes here and there can turn into huge power savers for your Hero. So here's my quick guide on how to maintain a battery charge.
NOTE: Take all of these tips with a grain of salt. None are guaranteed to drastically boost battery life individually, but the gains will be noticeable the more steps you utilize.
1. Use the Best App for the Job. The stock apps that come with your Hero may do the job, but many have bugs and issues that place a severe strain on your battery. See this post to find a comprehensive list of alternative apps (as well as some must-have advice) that may help to improve the overall efficiency of your phone..................
I disabled the auto backlight. I then manually adjust it depending on my needs. I spent the whole day at airports going from Pittsburgh to Denver to see the Steelers beat the Broncos tonight and I still had 25 % battery after multiple calls, dozens of texts and surfing the web for many hours. I also used handscent for sms. The autobacklight is set very bright. I am trying to find a good app to add as a widget to quickly manually adjust the brightness. I found one but it did it in too big of steps.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have seen some threads and articles on a few sites talking about the advantages of a better than stock mSD card for the Hero having a drastic effect on its performance. I have see others stating that a Class 4 or even Class 6 card on the Euro HTC Hero has improved performance by 400%. Now while I know "400%" is a little out there and even sounds exaggerated, I am curious what this group of people has seen or heard. Does a better MicroSD card improve overall performance?
View 13 Replies View RelatedCurrently, attempting to scroll when the text view has large amount of text makes the app completely unresponsive. It doesn't ANR, but it doesn't respond either. I've tried occasionally removing some text from the text view and removing some spans also, but it doesn't seem to help much. Any idea how to improve scrolling? It takes ages to scroll up or down. I also tried throttling touch events but it hasn't helped either.
View 8 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone else find find the camera on the Desire extremely sensitive to any hand movement while taking a picture? I found the camera on my old iPhone 3GS much better in this department (although the picture quality overall was not as good). And I know that a phone is no replacement for a dedicated camera, but is there any way to improve the shutter speed/sensitivity to movement?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got the sprint update on my non rooted phone. I'm in Portland Oregon, and it seems that my internet download speed is much slower than I expect. When I run a speed test I am coming up with .3mbps. Is that normal? What can I do to speed it up? Also, it pings to Los Angeles, seems funny to me. I primarily use my hero as a tether to my laptop and like to watch netflix. I have the all data plan with sprint.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have serched this forum to no avail. Is it possible to make a shortcut on the home page for speed dial? I can't seem to make it happen. I am able to make shortcuts for other things. I prefer the one-touch dialing speed dial provides.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm tinkering with building and installing Android from source. Basically I've got it down fairly well, but I seem to have run into a bit of a problem with the wlan module, probably from HTC.
Having pulled the 2.6.27 kernel sources and built that with a .config pulled from the phone, and using that as the kernel image instead of the prebuilt one, I get the following wifi failure message in dmesg:
wlan: version magic '2.6.27-00205-gf2dabc0 preempt mod_unload ARMv6 ' should be '2.6.27-00392-g8312baf preempt mod_unload ARMv6 '
probably because the .config I pulled from the phone has:
CONFIG_LOCALVERSION="-00392-g8312baf"
So I rebuilt with the '00205' localversion and now I get in dmesg:
[61.122497] wlan: Unknown symbol trout_pwrsink_set
but trout_pwrsink_set was changed to htc_pwrsave_set way back in February:
[ARM]: trout: Switch from trout_pwrsink -> htc_pwrsink 33/8933/1 http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=kernel/msm.git;a=commitdiff;h=44a01f...
I'm clearly getting an obsolete wlan module somehow, Any ideas for how I can get a wlan module that goes with the '00392' kernel would be appreciated.
I normally set up call forwarding from my home phone number to my cell phone by speed-dialing a special sting of numbers from my cell phone. Once the computer on the other side answers, the cell phone sends all the correct codes, including the number where I wish my forwarded calls to go.With my newly bought HTC Hero (Sprint), this doesn't seem to work, because the automatically dialed tones are much too fast and too short. I've tried putting a "P" (for pause) between each digit, but it doesn't help.Other cell phones provide way to select between short and long tones, but apparently the Hero does not.Is there a way to slow down the dialing string so that it can be read by the phone company's computer? Obviously, I could manually key in each digit, but that's really not a good solution.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there away to remove numbers from the speed dial I have voicemail and *2 on there but I didn't put them there I just want to take these numbers off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to change Speed Dial # 2 to not be Sprint Customer Service. It's kind of presumptuous of them to assume that I want to call them frequently o that I'm too stupid to press *2. Also, is there any way to have multiple speed dials for one contact (e.g., one for home and one for mobile)?
View 6 Replies View RelatedOk, my question here is about the speed in which the Androids operate. I have a HTC Hero, I have it rooted and running the Fresh 1.1 ROM and the more I play with it, the more I don't like it. I work at a Verizon franchise and get to play with the Moto Droid all day and it is amazing at how much quicker it is. So, what I am asking is, is there antother DROID powered device besides the Nexus One that puts out similar speeds? And is there one for Sprint that is coming out soon or rumored to be atleast?
View 18 Replies View RelatedSo I was very happy to show off my Hero to my friend who just got his pre. Anyway he was on this website to check his internet speed on his pre and so I wanted to check mine. I was averaging ~500kbps and I hit 1000kbps once. But my friend, he was averaging 8.5MBps, yes MBps. Obviously same network, at the same time. What up wit dat?
We also tried to go to websites we had never been to at the same time and he was beating me pretty handly. Anyway, I wanted to see what you guys were getting? Site is mobilespeedtest.com, then it run test and post results! Whoa, just did it right now and I got 1311kbps.
So I was messing around with ZenEXP and really loved it though I ran across a problem. I noticed via system panel that my cpu clock speed was stuck redlined at the full 691mhz. I've tried using both setcpu and overclock widget to alleviate this but neither helped, anyone else have this problem or know of a workaround?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe dual LED flash on the EVO works well in moderately lit situations but when shooting in the dark the flash makes images extremely bright and washed out. I was messing around with the camera settings and was able to produce decent results by changing ISO, brightness, etc. but that's a pain. Instead, tape a small strip of plain white paper over the LED flash. It diffuses the flash and makes a huge difference.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that when i switch from htc sense to the original android home, that my hero speeds up quite a bit. I think this is because that htc did not quite make htc sense like other android apps. Have you ever heard of apps that have a leak? I think that is what htc sense is.
View 31 Replies View RelatedSeriously? Anyone able to switch it? I cant seem to figure it out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor fear of sounding like a dope I'm going to ask. I was able to do the root because I was able to follow the step by step. I can't seem to find any step by steps on flashing a new Rom. I don't understand what making a nandroid means. I feel like a total Goober asking but if I eont figure anymore I really wasted my time going thru the root process.

View 26 Replies View RelatedTried to look it up but couldn't find an answer. Was just wondering why I would want to flash the 1.5.2 recovery instead of continuing to use the 1.2.3 image I already have.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I just flashed the new Damage Control ROM (2.08) on my Sprint HTC Hero, and I wanted to flash the .zip file for live wallpapers.....how do I do this? Am I supposed to rename it as update.zip or something and put it on my sd card? and then what...?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wanting to flash back to 2.0d but didn't save my nandroid for that particular ROM. I'm currently running 2.1.1, and have been for some time now. While I like 2.1.1, 2.0d just seemed to run better for me. My question is do I need to wipe before I flash or can I just flash 2.0d over 2.1.1? I didn't wipe when going from 2.0d to 2.1.1 and everything worked fine but I wasn't sure if I could do the same thing going the other way.
View 4 Replies View RelatedNot sure if its just me, but flash content doesn't show up when browsing. Is there a setting that needs to be turned on or off? If there is an update, how do i do so? For example adobe home page On side note: when I hit the pre installed google bookmark it brings me to a French version. I edited that bookmark but I just thought it was funny
View 2 Replies View RelatedThanks you were so much help but i have some only a few more questions what is a flash rom? and will the rom do anything for my phone?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat's the best rom to flash on the hero, that doesn't have 15 second lag when trying to make a phone call.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo how exactly do I flash a ROM onto my phone? I rooted my phone using this guide: [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers. It's a Sprint CDMA HTC Hero (duh. ) and running the 2.1 release. I'm very sure I've rooted it correctly; I've successfully tethered my phone for my laptop and iTouch.
