HTC Hero :: 2.1 Update - No Longer Able To Lock Screen

Last week I received the 2.1 update on the HTC Hero. I love it, BUT, i can no longer force lock my screen. Previously I could press the 'power/end call' button once to lock my phone. I can't do this any more. Is anyone else experiencing this? My only option currently, is to let my screen time out (set to 15 secs) and then my phone locks itself, but I cannot force this manually. It's rather frustrating - a lot goes on in my pockets in 15 seconds!

I am just getting tired of the lock screen on the Hero. My main problem with it is that, if I use the stock Messaging app, the messages show on the bottom...even though i have my phone locked with a pattern lock. I know I can use handcent and not have to deal with it, but I just want to know how to get rid of the stupid lock screen. I've read around a few places, and I know it's possible on 1.5, but I'm not too sure if it's possible for 2.1. Does anyone know where I can get instructions on who to disable the lock screen for 2.1, if it's even possible. My phone is rooted. Also, if I do disable the lock screen, and then i decide to put in a new ROM on my phone, what will happen?

Im on RGUI_NDT MIUI 2.3.7 MULTILANG V4 and would love to be able to change lockscreen timeout to be longer, it cuts out too fast for me...

1) how I can lengthen the time that my Hero rings for? It's easy for me to leave the phone at one end of the house, and by the time I get to it it's already gone to voicemail. Argrgh. Even if I could add another ten seconds it would help a lot. Any idea how I do this?
2) I haven't worked out how to quickly lock the screen. So, for instance, if I want to chuck the phone in my pocket -- at the moment I'm waiting for the screen to time out, which is bonkers.

ok, so i just updated my HTC Hero to the new 2.1. So far i am enjoying the updated UI however, i have noticed some changes, for instance, before i could easily assign ringtones to anyone now when i try to assign tones that are saved on my sd card to specific contacts it will not allow me to do so. The phone now only lets me set a default tone which can be any tone (sd card or factory) but all contacts have this tone & i cannot assign specific tones for certain contacts.

With the old 1.6 software on my X10, the lack of an automatic screen lock when in an active call was mildly annoying, as not all areas of the screen were active. However, with the new 2.1, just about anywhere on the screen becomes active (especially when juggling two simultaneous calls). What are the chances that we'll see a 'lock screen' function for phone calls? Those of us who actually use the phone for phone calls whilst holding it would surely appreciate it. Other android devices have had this for years.

All of a sudden the keypad/screen doesn't vibrate when I type in numbers.
Looked in settings and can't find what to change.
Probably something obvious but can't see the wood for the trees.

I hate the lock screen on the Hero, I know their is a way to turn it off, but i don't like getting a message and then the phone doing something in my pocket. Is their a way to extract the .apk of the lock screen from the droid, and just install it on the hero, I understand that the resolution on the hero is different, but hate the current lock screen, i have to slide it down 2-3 times for it to recognize. I downloaded lock 2.0 already on the market, its not bad. but it takes 3-4 seconds on my phone to actually give me the slide to unlock screen.

Look, I know alot of you already know about this, but I had a tough time finding it myself and figured I would help anyone else out if I could.Downloads
1. I followed the link. Files I'm referring to are under "Other stuff:"
2. Downloaded the "JH7 zip file OTA Stock" (which never worked for me as an OTA update) to my SDCARD.
3. Created a nandroid backup.
4. Disabled One Click Lag Fix.
5. Flashed the "JH7 zip file OTA Stock" from recovery menu.
The phone booted up almost stock with the update, has root/superuser but I had to enable non-market apps again, just like the first time I rooted. Also had to setup my accounts again...and apps. Then I downloaded the "Stock Lock Screen" the same way and flashed the zip from recovery menu. I was using the stock Captivate ROM - rooted and using One Click Lag Fix before, now I am using the updated JH7 ROM - rooted with re-applied One Click Lag Fix, and running the "vanilla" lock screen (screenshot below) rather than a glitchy Lockbot alternative. Why the Hero doen't show the 2.1 Lock screen, and instead it shows the default one. Any App or something. I'm a Newbie, and I'm running 2.1 Sprint Update if someone could explain step by step.

I would like to customize my lock screen, and after a little research I found an app called Lock bot. However, several reviews say that it doesn't work very well, at least not the free version (I live in Sweden and we can't buy apps yet). Is there another way to customize the lock screen?

I think the answer to this is "no" I've spent this mornign playing with a Hero and really like it. I was wondering if there was any way, fro a privacy point of view, of NOT displaying the SMS preview at the bottom of the screen when the screen is locked - happy to show caller details - just don't want the text itself.

After the 2.1 update the bit on spare parts that (in my case) took me to the home screen with one press of the end call button then locks the screen with another has gone, i honestly never knew how much i used that feature and i am now annoyed i cant lock the screen with one or two clicks, does anyone know how i can get this feature back? also does anyone agree that the signal strength and battery life have diminished since the 2.1 update?.

My boss has an iphone and hes got some app that basically displays his schedule for the day and any other info he wants to add on his lock screen. Anyone seen anything like this for android?I've searched on some sites and through the market and found nothing yet.

Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem I didn't change anything but when I picked up my fone the lock screen didn't work by swiping & didn't hav thw same arrows pointing down to get into my fone I had to press menu but within a few hrs it was back to normal Very weird!

1) I can press a button to 'wake' up the phone to the lock screen, but I may have to press a button 2 or 3 times to wake the phone up. it seems like it's not waking up correctly and on the first button press.
2) Twitter and other notifications 'sometimes' dont happen until I unlock the screen...this COULD be coincidence, but I thought I would throw it out for people.
3) I didnt get a voicemail given on Friday until today, which appeared as a result of me switching off my phone and switching it back on. has anyone else heard of this???
4) I cant figure out a way to stop apps from starting on bootup, such as peep? I use twidroid, so dont need two apps running of the same ilk?? Any help here?

I tried searching for this topic but I couldnt find it. I just upgraded my htc hero to android 2.1. I never set a password for the lock screen. So it ended up putting a password on its own. I called sprint tech support and talked to them for about an hour and finally figured out that the password is my google account password. Thats all well and good but I am not a big fan of password protecting my phone because I really dont have any information of value on it, but I do like having the lock screen so I dont pocket diel. I found a few programs that will disable the lock screen that will get around this problem, kind of. Does anyone have a clue how to disable the password protection and still keep the lock screen. Its just really irritating because I dont usually lock my phone and every time I try to wake it I have to unlock it.

I switched phones the other day.The 1st phon eI was able to set my lock screen with a provided wall papar. On teh new phone, it says I have no photos and will not let me go to wallpapers. Could this be because I hace swapped out the 2gig micro sd with a new sd card?Because I know I did it on the other phone.

I understand that the hero has no proximity sensor, and so does not lock the screen while talking on the phone. So has anyone been having problems with pressing on-screen buttons with their face and stuff? Has the absence of the proximity sensor been an issue with the Hero?
