i don't really want to load the android2. 1 official rom onto my phone can i just flash the vinilla-droid rom right away instead of the eris official rom? i am rooting it using a mac and a droid eris running the OTA android 2.1, should that work?

I got the Galaxy from my mother (she switched to another phone), but she lost the USBcable. I found a way of sending files via WiFi to the sdcard, and also connected adb via WiFi, but I can't flash the new recovery because I'd have no WiFi connection in fastboot. Is there a way to flash an official update from the sdcard using stock recovery? I successfully entered recovery but there are no options, and I can't find a guide of any kind. I tried buying the cable, but none of the shops had the official one, so finally I bought a third party cable that only charges the phone through usb, but windows gives me some error and doesn't recognize it as a device.

I just found that they only way to downgrade is to have a rooted phone? so in order for me to root my phone...i need to have an already rooted phone?! my question is, is there a way to downgrade from 2.1 to 1.5? or is there seriously not a way?

View 14 Replies View RelatedHas anyone been able to get wired tether for root running successfully on Ivan's Official 2.1 ROM? It was included as one of the default apps, yet I can't get it to work on 7 Ultimate, XP Pro, or OS 10.6. I'm going to be in the car for a few hours today with a thinkpad running XP Pro, and I wanted to try out wired tether. When I plug in the phone just for charging, a new driver is entered as Android Phone and I'm fairly sure Android Dev Bridge. When I start wired tether, those devices disappear and and a USB device that cannot start or has the wrong drivers is on the bottom of the screen. When I used wired tether (internet sharing) in EE 2.0.1, all OS's would immediately set up the phone as an NIC connected to the internet with the exception of XP which needed the correct drivers. With wired tether in ivan's official, I get nothing; no driver setup screen or any connection.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't want to beat a dead horse, but I have searched around and i have not found a good explanation as to why those with the 2.1v3 leak cannot manually install the official OTA file that was posted here.
Anyone have an explanation for this? I read that it has something to do with a different HBOOT, but I'm not really understanding it. Do you think we will every be able to get the OTA so that we can go root? I quickly jumped to the 2.1v3 leak without fully understanding the benefits of root and now, after more research, I really want to go root.
If I already rooted to one of the 2.1 leaks will I have to do a factory reset to upgrade to the official? If so would I have to talk to Verizon to get my phone set up again? (IE: Service?) Sorry, I'm kind of knew to this .

The is a tower a half a mile down the road from me, and at random times the Eris will say I have no service. But I know it's not just the tower because I still don't get service randomly at places it's usually fine.

In this article they make mention of the processor architecture being the reason, does this mean that even after root and some hacking it will never work? Or is that just Adobe's excuse? Tried out EE 2.1 I think, but kinda crashed a lot on me, and froze up a bunch, so I just went back to the nandroid backup of the basic and stuck with it. That was like 2 months ago, and I thought maybe now, I should actually try out a real ROM. Now that EE 3.0 is up, I want to give it another shot. The question in all this crap is if I need to flash EE 2.0, and 2.1 to flash 3.0?

I am finding myself flashing my phone several times a day. Tweaking roms moving ring tones or other things that one rom may not have. I am wondering am I going to burn out my phone doing this???? LOL I just can't settle on the perfect combination. The most consistent ROM for me yet has been Evil Eris 3.0 but the GPS doesn't work. I loved White Widow but a day after install it started lagging badly. I want KaosFroyo but I have to have a working camera. And my favorite keyboard is the HTC_IME_mod!!!! And all the roms don't have this one.

This is not polling for re-flashing a ROM or flashing a new ROM for fun or out of curiosity; I'd like to see a poll of rooters who messed up something and needed to either re-flash their zip file and start over or had to find and go to another ROM because the current one just was not working.
So right now I'm running Aloysius Snow, and I can only overclock to 710. Is there a way to "flash-over" a different kernel so that I can overclock to say, 768?
