I have the droid eris with the leaked 2.1 software. I am trying to figure any way possible to get the official update because of all the bugs and the market lacking certain apps.

For those stuck on the unofficial .3 version of Froyo, and would like to update to the official OTA .6 version, there's a leaked RUU that's out and about. Check out the link:

So I just got done installing the leaked OTA and rooting my phone, but now I've read conflicting reports that when Froyo comes out in a couple weeks, I won't be able to install it without going back to stock 2.1. Even worse, going back to stock means erasing all the data and apps on my phone. I was under the impression that one could use Titanium backup to make sure all apps, data, and settings can be re-imaged to the phone, but then I realized that Titanium only works if you have root, which I won't if I go back to stock. But when the official update comes out, how do I install it without losing all my data? Why can't I just install it on top of the rooted OTA update OS?

Word from those that have flashed is that they are getting a GPS lock, Indoors. Also, it Looks like updates to the phone will be done with Kies, not OTA. Also has been said that it's pretty quick and the lag issue has been addressed.

View 11 Replies View RelatedHad a quick question - Did the update yesterday morning with no issues other than I can not find some of the apps I used prior to the upgrade. I can find them in the market, but when I try to use my phone to download, it can not find them. Note: I used Astro to back up most of my apps on the phone, these couldn't be backed up since they were marked private. And they didn't display in my downloads either after the upgrade. Digital Clock Widget: Silent Time: If I use my friends phone (same version prior to my upgrade), no problem finding these apps. Suggestions? I could always downgrade back to the previous version, but I was having some freezing issues that I hope this upgrade fixed...

View 29 Replies View RelatedI don't want to beat a dead horse, but I have searched around and i have not found a good explanation as to why those with the 2.1v3 leak cannot manually install the official OTA file that was posted here.
Anyone have an explanation for this? I read that it has something to do with a different HBOOT, but I'm not really understanding it. Do you think we will every be able to get the OTA so that we can go root? I quickly jumped to the 2.1v3 leak without fully understanding the benefits of root and now, after more research, I really want to go root.
After the official 2.1 update, my service has been getting slowly worse. The is a tower a half a mile down the road from me, and at random times the Eris will say I have no service. But I know it's not just the tower because I still don't get service randomly at places it's usually fine.

View 10 Replies View RelatedAs far as I know, if an owner of an android smartphone decides to flash/update his phone by not using the official ways (by smartphone via wi-fi or by pc via Kies), then he permanently loses a possibility to update his phone officially.
I know that because I used to have Galaxy S2 and installed a custom firmware, although there was a trick when you use some stick to have your phone "official" again.
So, I'm not comfortable with the "latest" android OS 2.3.6, S6802XXLF2 / Gingerbread.XXLF4 My phone is GT-S6802 Ace Duos. I'm not comfortable due to the fact that the default browser doesn't have an exit button, so I have to resort to task manager in order to kill the process of internet browser - which is an oversight by android devs.
But I know, that in some new firmwares the default internet browser has an exit button, so I'm wondering if there's any firmware to which I can upgrade without losing the possibility to update my smartphone afterwards.
Also, I take it, for every smartphone there's certain firmware version, right?
For example, for Galaxy S3 it's Android 4.0.4
While for Galaxy Ace Duos it's Android 2.3.6
And the OS of Galaxy S3 can't be installed onto Ace Duos, right?
This is sad, why can't Samsung make one universal OS for its smartphones? Does Windows Mobile has the same issue? Or is it universal just like PC Windows OS?

I downloaded several off the market, but i have no idea where to use them at. Also, i have some issues when i go to make calls, i press buttons and it lags to a point to where it slows down completely.

Does anyone have the leaked 2.1 rom and the PAID version of PDAnet working. I know that the app store does not have the paid apps available in it for the leaked version yet. I use PDAnet for internet for my netbook all the time for my business and need to know if it is still available and working on the leaked rom. Also is bluetooth tethering working now that it is 2.1?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was following another site to see if the Eris was going to get rooted and I saw that a leaked update was discovered for the Eris. IT is suppose to be the one for January 22nd. It is not an Android update, just another update to fix any known bugs on the device. Has anyone on this forum tried it yet and if so what fixes did you notice.

I upgraded to 2.1 last Friday and have been very happy.No issues thus far.Being an early adopter,I wonder if there any later versions then what I down loaded last week. Of course, I should think about leaving well enought alone.I have a working Eris with 2.1.

i want to say that the leaked version of 2.1 was around 100 megabytes and Earlier today i received the offical OTA 2.1 from Verizon and it was only clocked in at 77 megabytes.
Talking to my stepdad, he was very interested in how one version can be different in size but "be the same".
I know theres another forums around here stating the two are the same (checksums and file details) but whats taking up that extra 30 megabytes on the leaked version?
Is there any difference because i noticed that there are a couple bugs(swype is a little erradic, missing apps). So is there a difference and also will i be able to update to the official froyo if already on the leaked version?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor me, it appears so, sucks because latest Google Voice is great and the sole reason I want to go back to 1.5 (and then maybe the root 2.1 etcs)Confirmed for me, calls now show google voice number in latest google voice app! (as displayed in long list of fixes/improvements.) I definitely encourage any old Leak V2 users to upgrade that want the latest Google Voice!
