View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a rooted Evo with stock Rom and I was wondering if it is worth all the trouble to flash a custom rom. The only rom I have heard of really is Fresh. And then there are custom kernels too. Is there a rom/kernel that is really better than stock that I should upgrade too? And what is the best way of backing up all my apps.
View 6 Replies View Related1) so i think i know how to flash a custom ROM, problem is, i dont know how to 'wipe'. and what is a wipe anyway? also, i did the steps on xda on how to root 2.2 so im all set there. i dont know if i got nanlock or whatever that is.
2) i got rom manager and its pretty use to use, except, like i siad, i dont know how to 'wipe'. do i have ot back up everything???
3) what is a kernel and how to install a kernel? for example, i want to install the kernel that lifts the 30fps cap as well as the kernel that lets u overclock to 1.2ghz

View 3 Replies View RelatedI havent seen a thread on this yet, and im sure this will help those of you wanting to flash a custom ROM (even a rooted version of Froyo!)after rooting your phone with unrevoked 3.1
Step ONE:
The first thing to do is to download and install Titanium Backup from the market, and backup all of your apps and user data.Once this is done, shut your phone off.
STEP TWO:
Press and hold your volume up button. then press and release your power key while continuing to hold your volume up button.
Your phone will boot into a white background menu that has green text at the top, followed by FASTBOOT highlighted in red, followed by text in orange, then 4 options. You can release your volume up key once this menu is up.
I have a couple questions i was wondering could get answered by people with knowledge on the subject. I am pretty new to all this root and flashing scene with these android phones.
so here goes.
About a month [or so] ago i rooted my phone from stock 2.2 i had to downgrade to 2.1 -> root -> back to 2.2. since then i have been enjoying the pleasure of running apps like wifi tether adfree and so on. well i recently found out that because my phone was rooted ( i am still running stock ROM) that i cant update the pri and the kernal ( again i don't really know what this stuff really is, i just know it can help performance and battery wise). so
1. i was wondering if i can flash custom kernels onto the stock ROM.
2. are there any things i can flash onto my rooted stock ROM to help with battery life or anything else?
I currently have
pri version 1.40_003
baseband 2.15.00.07.28
kernel 2.6.32.15-g746f4f0 htc-kernal@and18-2 #58
build number 3.26.651.6
Sorry guys for hte noob question but I am new to custom roms and I am trying to avoid bricking my phone. I rooted the phone with OCLF and I want to give the cognition rom a try (I have create a backup of my current ROM with ROM Manager). However if I understand it right I need to flash my phone back to JF6? Can I install the ROM using CLockwork Recovery or do I have to use hte ODIN method? What is the difference? I understand that I can recover to stock using odin but I believe I should be able to recover to my stock rom using ROM Manager from the back?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just want the device to function again no matter what way. (Don't care if it's factory reset completely it has nothing on it I was just using it for a bit of experimenting).
So anyway, I have an HTC One x that I tried to install Cyanogenmod mod on but when trying to flash it (I was a bit impatient and just did what I thought would work), it didn't work and I'm stuck on the HTC Boot screen. I can still restart the phone and get to the recovery menus or whatever they're called. But even when doing a factory reset it still just won't get past the boot screen.
I thought I might experiment with rooting and all that, (I don't want to do this to my main driver, the Z1, for the life of me).

E: Error in /sdcard/0/download/pa_grouper...

BTW, I had no problems flashing pa to my Nexus 4&10 and loving that rom.
can i flash it via cwm?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am getting my hero tommorow, but its locked on orange, so, instead of doing the goldcard method, can i just use flashrepc and flash a custom recovery image, then open the generic firmware on my comp, extract the rom.zip, rename it update.zip and do a nandroid, wipe then flash? i only want generic from htc(stock version) not a custom firmware.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI looked over at the instructions and it says all you data will be wiped. So rooting will likely be the absolute first thing I do. After you root its stated you can flash custom roms. Can someone go more in depth on this? Will Sense not work anymore once the phone is rooted? Any other points of interest that is worth noting?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to find out if there are any custom lock screens I can flash. I don't like lockbot, as it bogs my phone on occasion. I've seen a few clear lock screens I haven't been interested in. I'm looking for a lock screen like eclair, or one of those that you slide left and right. Anyone know if 1) you can flash custom lock screens and 2) if so do you know where I can get one like what I described? Thanks!

I just purchased a cheap 9.7" Android Tablet, Model AM09-D2. It came with ICS 4.0.4, has 16Gb ram and a dual core Cortex A9 CPU. I would like to know how I go about backing this thing up. It is rooted and has absolutely no blootwear installed. Is it possible to flash a custom recovery. Like TWRP or CWM to save a image of the rom. I have already did a data and app backup with Mybackup Pro. Now I would like to backup the Rom and maybe do dump. Is it possible and if so how? Not really that comfortable with ADB/fastboot, truthfully I don't understand what the difference is. I already have drivers setup for Samsung Galaxy Nexus on my Win 8 notebook. Will installing ADB/fastboot screw things up?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is the first (and only) time that I have try to root my phone (with the AAHK). After alot of reading I managed to ROOT my Desire HD and it says S-OFF.
The problem is that I am not able to install a costum ROM. I have tried the following roms:
1. Android_Revolution_HD-4G_6.3.3
2. TrickDroid_v2.0.0_C2
And I allways get the same error. It says status 0. I found in some other threads on XDA-devoloppers that the problem is: "Wrong update-binary".

View 32 Replies View RelatedOne of the big things I was looking forward to with 2.1 was full flash support. But, as we should have expected, thats a no go for 1st gen phones. In this article they make mention of the processor architecture being the reason, does this mean that even after root and some hacking it will never work? Or is that just Adobe's excuse? No Flash 10.1 for 1st gen Android phones
