HTC Eris :: WiFi Tethering For Root Users - Astro File Manager
Mar 21, 2010
This is for all of you who are having troubles getting your application "Wireless Tether for Root Users" to work. I personally kept getting an error on which would say "Initializing WiFi Interface: Failed." I have since been able to get it to work. Here's how.
Disclaimer: Obviously you need a rooted phone for this to work, We're in Root forums for a reason. You will also need the Amon Recovery Partition.
Steps:
1. Boot phone into Recovery by holding Volume Up + Power (End Button).
2. Wipe phone of all data.
3. Flash to the 0_3 rom, install Astro File Manager from the Market
4. Download and install file from below and place into phones SD card.
5. Install from Astro by opening it in App Manger, Open up application and enjoy!
Wireless Tether!

I just noticed that Astro has a built-in task killer. (Please no more about if we NEED a task killer) What I like about the killer on astro is that it lets me see how much memory and cpu a task or process is actually using before I kill it. I rarely use a task killer. Only when a task seems to be hanging up. It looks like Astro has the functionality I need, so I will remove Advanced Task Killer.

ok so i was playing around with trying to get the stoick mms to install over the twmms.apk and i finally got it working.First of all, if you don't have astro file manager, go download from the market cause you will need it. next go to this link and download the Modified Mms.apk and put it on your sdcard.
Modified Mms.apk-Turn-off debug mode, stop application from lagging [Updated: 08/21] - xda-developers.Now travel to the saved mms.apk on your sdcard and click in it to install and click upgrade.that's it. Now you should have the stock mms.apk.

Is there a way to install apps without service to my Motorola Droid. See I have currently suspended my contract due to a deployment overseas. Obviously my Droid only works in the states, but I was wondering is there a way to install apps on my phone via usb and the inet connection on my laptop?

I have the HTC Incredible and my phone started saving photos to phone memory, instead of the SD card. I want to move the photos with Astro File Manager from emmc/DCIM/100MEDIA to the SD card. Is there a way (with Astro or anything else) where I can move all the photos from phone memory to the SD card?

Now I am slightly new to the android game. Had a D1 that I traded for and I loved it. Used Astro File manager on there to get swype when it was available. I hear about this app and how it is great and you need it. I have downloaded it and I am not really 100% positive on its purpose. Is it just an easy way to delete files? Are there files I shouldn't delete?

I'm at a loss trying to get Astro to communicate with my Windows XP home computer. I downloaded the SMB module for my MotoDroid, but am not really clear on how to configure my Windows Networking settings and what exactly needs to be entered in Astro's configuration settings. Is there a guide on how to do this on the web?.. if so, I haven't been able to find it.

The best WiFi/BT tether/hotspot app out there has just added support for the EVO 4G about half an hour ago. Of course, root is required but it's just one click away with unrevoked. Forget Sprint's $30 a month tether - this one is free and supported by the community. This is why I love Android. All info here:
Rooted EVO 4G Users Can Now Enjoy Unlimited Free WiFi/Bluetooth Tether (Hotspot) As Android-wifi-tether App Adds Support For EVO

WPA2 + infrastructure = strong security and access for your Android devices and other devices that didn't support ad-hoc mode (WiFi, etc). Written by Andrew himself - the guy who developed most of the code for this to work on the EVO. Props Andrew! I have a droid X I just got not very long ago at all and a friend told me how to use the rooted version to play xbox live and things like MW2 online using the tether...so I think I rooted my phone it says it is.
I used androot and it seems to have rooted my phone however it does not ask me permission(yet i literally just downloaded it) now my question is this:
I have downloaded wireless tether for root users version 2.0.1(I am running 2.1 update1) I am not sure if that was the correct version...but I am online so I assume so.
How do I open the NAT settings on the wifi however? that is the whole point of me doing this charade and I cannot figure it out. I try to play MW2 online and it says they are strict.

Someone from WMWifiRouter had mentioned a couple months ago they were working on a product for Android but I haven't heard anymore. I was hoping they'd drop their product when paid apps went live. Any news? Any other Wifi tethering out there that doesn't require me to root my phone?

I have been contemplating rooting my Evo for some time for the reasons mentioned in the title. I have read rave reviews for WiFi tethering all over this forum and will definitely take advantage of it. Secondly, I have heard that when the Evo is rooted you can create back up, with Nandroid or Titanium, and it is a ghost/clone of the entire phone (settings, apps, app data/pointers, etc.). I have had to replace my phone a few times now for factory defects and it has caused tremendous pain to lose some of the app data that I had stockpiled in the 3 months since my last replacement. In the event of having to replace my phone again after rooting it, would I just have to root the new Evo and flash the last back up and ROM (stock or not) that I was using?

The answer is probably no, but is there a way for non-root users to customize their notification bar. Maybe change the color of the bar or different battery or signal strength notifications.

I've searched and I dont believe this has been answered. I accidently set "Astro Manager" as my default to viewing attached MMS/Picutres.
How can I undo this action (to where I have a choice to choose between astro and the view picture app)?

Instead of installing another program I would rather just use Astro's process manager, it works plenty well for what I want now.I know you can use Anycut to rename and create shortcuts to most things, but is there a way to create a shortcut to a function within a program? If not with Anycut, maybe a different program?

Hey everyone, I have a couple of simple questions regarding root. I have never rooted a phone before but I'm sure I can figure it out. I don't need to do anything fancy with my phone but Wifi tethering sounds like it would be worth taking the plunge. I have been following the bugs and fixes thread about the 2.1 leak and the only think that initially kept me from installing the leak was everyone saying that the phone would randomly go completely silent. Does this also happen with the newest root ROM? Also, just to make sure I know what exactly what WiFi tethering is, will I be able to tether my WiFi if I get rooted and set up WiFi tethering?

I have a rooted 2.1, it's been working perfectly since I rooted and updated and all.I love how fast and responsive everything is now.BUT one of the main reasons I rooted was so that I could take advantage of the wifi tethering. It works sometimes.sometimes great.BUT if I try to go to facebook.it'll work well sometimes, then others it won't even load the page.then eventually just kills my connection. gmail seems to have the same reaction.works sometimes, other times, nothing. i dont seem to have much of a problem surfing other sites.HOWEVER if i try to download anything over like 4MB big...my connection just gets killed all together, and nothing works. a friend of mine sent me his bands new demos...the zip file is like 35MB.it only gets a little ways before just dropping down to 0.0kbs and then it just sits there, not loading crap. I can re start the connection, and it will start downloading again, but after about 30 or 40 seconds.the connection gets killed again. Same goes for a torrent...if I try to download a torrent, it'll work and get pretty fast, up to 190kbs.but after just under a minute, connection killed. why is this? does verizon kill data connections that come in to fast or something? i have a friend who tethers with at&t with his iphone, he got the demos downloaded in like 12 min on his iphone tethering app. do i need to do some tweaking to my phone so I can download? im not trying to go crazy, but I'd like to atleast be able to get large attachments and such.
