Jun 13, 2010Hey, can someone explain to me what exactly is WiFi tethering and the diff b/w normal tethering? I kind of have a general idea, but I want to be sure.

May 6, 2010I have a rooted 2.1, it's been working perfectly since I rooted and updated and all.I love how fast and responsive everything is now.BUT one of the main reasons I rooted was so that I could take advantage of the wifi tethering.It works sometimes.sometimes great.BUT if I try to go to facebook.it'll work well sometimes, then others it won't even load the page.then eventually just kills my connection. gmail seems to have the same reaction.works sometimes, other times, nothing. i dont seem to have much of a problem surfing other sites.HOWEVER if i try to download anything over like 4MB big...my connection just gets killed all together, and nothing works. a friend of mine sent me his bands new demos...the zip file is like 35MB.it only gets a little ways before just dropping down to 0.0kbs and then it just sits there, not loading crap. I can re start the connection, and it will start downloading again, but after about 30 or 40 seconds.the connection gets killed again. Same goes for a torrent...if I try to download a torrent, it'll work and get pretty fast, up to 190kbs.but after just under a minute, connection killed. why is this? does verizon kill data connections that come in to fast or something? i have a friend who tethers with at&t with his iphone, he got the demos downloaded in like 12 min on his iphone tethering app. do i need to do some tweaking to my phone so I can download? im not trying to go crazy, but I'd like to atleast be able to get large attachments and such.

Mar 21, 2010Hey everyone, I have a couple of simple questions regarding root. I have never rooted a phone before but I'm sure I can figure it out. I don't need to do anything fancy with my phone but Wifi tethering sounds like it would be worth taking the plunge. I have been following the bugs and fixes thread about the 2.1 leak and the only think that initially kept me from installing the leak was everyone saying that the phone would randomly go completely silent. Does this also happen with the newest root ROM? Also, just to make sure I know what exactly what WiFi tethering is, will I be able to tether my WiFi if I get rooted and set up WiFi tethering?

Mar 21, 2010This is for all of you who are having troubles getting your application "Wireless Tether for Root Users" to work. I personally kept getting an error on which would say "Initializing WiFi Interface: Failed." I have since been able to get it to work. Here's how.
Disclaimer: Obviously you need a rooted phone for this to work, We're in Root forums for a reason. You will also need the Amon Recovery Partition.
Steps:
1. Boot phone into Recovery by holding Volume Up + Power (End Button).
2. Wipe phone of all data.
3. Flash to the 0_3 rom, install Astro File Manager from the Market
4. Download and install file from below and place into phones SD card.
5. Install from Astro by opening it in App Manger, Open up application and enjoy!

May 5, 2010I overclocked my eris from a 2.0 to a 2.2 and ever since then ive been having some really bad lag on my phone... such as texting is really really slow, opening programs, and loading the camera pictures. Can anyone tell me if i were to master reset my phone if my phone would not be overclocked anymore and just be to its original 2.0?

Aug 16, 2010Just upgraded from DInc to X this week. Rooted - all that fun stuff. Had AP tethering on DInc, I'm still getting adHoc with X even with version 2.0.5-pre 7. Is anyone else getting AP tethering or do we need to wait for the froyo kernal? I had originally thought any phone with the VZW wifi hotspot app had AP tethering capabilities in its kernal already.

Nov 11, 2010I am rooted on the Droid 1 with a stock FRG22D kernel and ROM.I downloaded WiFi Tether from the Market.I tried it out on several different laptops using different Windows OS.It appears to work great as long as Access Control (MAC Filtering) and WEP are turned off.If either is activated, all data transfer ceases. Other posts have also noted this issue which appears to be associated with the stock FRG22D kernel.My question is has anyone flashed a Froyo P3 or other kernal that will allow Access Control or WEP to work as intended with the stock FRG22D ROM. I am happy with the stock kernel and ROM but will consider switching if I can find a compatable kernel or other configuration.Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

May 18, 2010I rooted my phone about a month ago using BB v1.0 and loving it.The major reason I rooted was for the wifi tether.My situation might be a bit different than other people that are using wifi tether, since I'm connecting to my car (www.mp3car.com).Using the app wifi tether, I can easily connect to a network manually, but everytime I turn off my car, it obviously looses connection.When I turn my car back on,I have to MANUALLY reconnect.I am using Windows 7 and have created the profile that's supposed to reconnect automatically, but it never does.I believe that since this isn't a real wifi hotspot and just an adhoc network, that this automatic connection isn't possible with just Windows 7 networking settings.Has anyone had any success getting your wifi tether to automatically connect to their laptop when you turn it on?

Otherwise seems the same--except: under Settings-->Wifi and Networks is a tab called "Tethering." So I plugged it into my computer, turned on USB Tether, and yet I couldn't seem to get internet from the phone's data service. Is this a weird, non-working foyo feature?

Mar 4, 2013In my apartment, the router is in another room, and it'd be a massive, ugly-looking to run a 100-foot wire from my room to out there. As a result, I've been using wireless routers for my internet, and they haven't been working for crap. I can tether my 4G LTE to my PC and use my Droid internet just fine, but I don't want to do that because of the data cap. I want to tether my Droid and have it connect to my home internet, basically using it as a wireless router to access my home connection, not the Verizon network, and share it with my PC.
But if you turn tethering on, it turns Wi-Fi off. What gives? Is there a way to tether my Droid without disabling Wi-Fi so I can use my tethered Droid to pick up my home wireless connection, so I don't have to worry about exceeding the data cap?

It will open and start it just wont actually draw data from your phone. Also I have ChevyNo1's 1.2 kernel and its says + WiFi module but maybe I am doing something wrong.

Nov 18, 2010As far as roms and all are concerned I've managed to get my droid rooted and working. I'm running LFY 1.7 with a P3droid 1000 kernel. My question is, I have tried barnacle, WiFi tether, and every other WiFi tethering app that anyone has suggested and they all start up and say that they are now running. My problem is that no other device will see this WiFi connection, and truthfully I don't believe it's really working. I have been told that slayher's kernels were very good for tethering but whenever I flash one of them, my phone starts, up and gets warm, then reboots. Keep in mind that I am running the kernels at the same speeds. If anyone has any input as to why my WiFi tethering is not working?
