View 2 RepliesI have another posting about my Verizon network settings getting screwed up by a widget, and assuming that I need to restore my phone, I'd like to see how to do it while keeping root. If I use the built-in option to restore factory settings, will I keep root and the super-user apk? I'm not downgrading anything, I didn't do any OTA leaks; I'm curious about restoring my phone to factory settings while retaining root.

View 11 Replies View RelatedSomeone from WMWifiRouter had mentioned a couple months ago they were working on a product for Android but I haven't heard anymore. I was hoping they'd drop their product when paid apps went live. Any news? Any other Wifi tethering out there that doesn't require me to root my phone?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been contemplating rooting my Evo for some time for the reasons mentioned in the title. I have read rave reviews for WiFi tethering all over this forum and will definitely take advantage of it. Secondly, I have heard that when the Evo is rooted you can create back up, with Nandroid or Titanium, and it is a ghost/clone of the entire phone (settings, apps, app data/pointers, etc.). I have had to replace my phone a few times now for factory defects and it has caused tremendous pain to lose some of the app data that I had stockpiled in the 3 months since my last replacement. In the event of having to replace my phone again after rooting it, would I just have to root the new Evo and flash the last back up and ROM (stock or not) that I was using?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is for all of you who are having troubles getting your application "Wireless Tether for Root Users" to work. I personally kept getting an error on which would say "Initializing WiFi Interface: Failed." I have since been able to get it to work. Here's how.
Disclaimer: Obviously you need a rooted phone for this to work, We're in Root forums for a reason. You will also need the Amon Recovery Partition.
Steps:
1. Boot phone into Recovery by holding Volume Up + Power (End Button).
2. Wipe phone of all data.
3. Flash to the 0_3 rom, install Astro File Manager from the Market
4. Download and install file from below and place into phones SD card.
5. Install from Astro by opening it in App Manger, Open up application and enjoy!
Wireless Tether!
So going to root, have 2.1 with first couple OTA updates but am trying to figure out which method to root with Are there pro/cons to any method? From what I've read unrevoked isn't a full root, but using something like simple root or adb (which i don't understand) will give you full root So i was going to just use simpleroot, but then read some posts on here and xda developers about using unrevoked 3, then simpleroot to keep a PRI 1.4 for better reception/connection? anyone know anything about this? will it mess up stuff to do unrevoked then simple root?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI woke up this morning to have a 2.2 system update available, but I don't wanna lose root by installing it. First of all I rooted using mejdam 10 minute root on youtube and I originally only wanted it for the flashlight and the WiFi tether, I rely on my WiFi tether now and well I want 2.2 also, I've never nandroid backup my phone or anything like that I just rooted and left it. What should I do now that I wanna install 2.2 and keep root? What would be the steps of going about this.

View 42 Replies View RelatedI searched around but couldn't find a recent answer to this. Is there still no way to tether the EVO to an iPad without rooting? I don't have an iPad, yet, but am considering getting one and don't want to the pay the extra money to have 3G built in (especially AT&T 3G). I'm not sure I want to bother with rooting my phone (other than this, I've not really come across any reason [personally] to want to root), but if that's the only way I might consider it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used to have a samsung moment that was rooted and i used the samsung moment wifi tethering program. I just got the HTC Evo 4G yesterday and rooted it using the Unrevoked method (not sure if there is another). I then downloaded the Wireless Tether for root users. For some reason i cant get anthing to recognize it. I've tried looking for the signal with my ipod and laptop but nothing! What setting needs to be changed? I have tried to find this issue on other posts, but nothing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile USB tethering over 3G/4G networks doesn't work unless you pay for the $30/mo hotspot feature (which I still cannot get Sprint to admit is a stupid name since I don't want a hotspot, only tethering, but I digress), you can tether and use the phone's WiFi connection.
Why would you want to? Well, I have a laptop that requires a USB dongle and now I have one less thing to carry. OK, not the best reason, but I found it interesting.
Any chance of a root tether application coming out with WPA2? I would think a app could be developed similar to Sprint's mobile hot spot.

Is there a way to tether the wifi i have on the Phone via USB to my PC?
I just rooted my phone. First, what is the Unrevoked reflash for? I though it was a custom ROM, but it seems to be something to back up your phone?
Is the wifi-tethering that installed with the root free, or does it still add that extra $30/month Verizon has on their stock-tether?
Is it possible to underclock the Incredible? My phone never has speed problems, but the battery never lasts the day. It'd be nice to have some trade-off.
Lastly, how do I get a custom ROM onto my phone? Are there any stable ones available yet?
**UPDATED**
1. On your phone go to Settings > Applications > Development > and enable USB debugging.
2. Go to unrevoked.com on your HTC EVO web browser and download it and install it.
3. Run the Revoked program and click on Start. You should get a message that says, "successfully rooted"
4. Go to http://bit.ly/c2oonC and download and install the wireless_tether_2_0_2.apk with your HTC EVO web browser.
5. Run Wireless WiFi Tether (When a box pops up, click on ALLOW)
Notes:
- When you restart the phone, you have to root it again to run Wireless tether.
- Sprint will not bill you anything extra, don't worry. Droid, NexusOne users have been doing this for a while with no issues.
- You do not need to have the "$29.95" tethering plan with Sprint.
- WiFi signal is not strong, so your device had to be near by.
- WiFi tethering uses up alot of battery life. About 1% per minute or two (thats constant connection loading webpage/video streaming). WiFi tethering also worked with my iPad.
Just upgraded from DInc to X this week. Rooted - all that fun stuff. Had AP tethering on DInc, I'm still getting adHoc with X even with version 2.0.5-pre 7. Is anyone else getting AP tethering or do we need to wait for the froyo kernal? I had originally thought any phone with the VZW wifi hotspot app had AP tethering capabilities in its kernal already.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI hate to start a new thread but I searched the forum for an answer with no success. I'M a SWAC customer and my fiance is my sponsor. She is concerned that if I root my Evo and get free Wifi tethering she will possibly get fired if Sprint notices the larger amount of data usage. Has anyone ever heard of a Sprint employee getting fired over rooting their phone? I want to root but not at the expense of getting my fiance fired.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I just rooted my phone yesterday with the new unrevoked 3 and mainly for the purpose of getting the WiFi tethering app back. Yes, it worked, but man has it been a sad day. I've been reading posts of people having great speeds and here I am trying to enjoy my 0.4 kbps down and 0.3 kbps up speeds, but it sure is hard when other devices can't even use the connection because it's so insanely low. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this problem?
Is it because of the new root? Is it because of my phone? I used to have okay speeds before with just having a rooted phone via unrevoked 1. I don't know if it's my data network either because it still loads sites pretty well and downloads just fine. It's just the WiFi tethering that is horrible. I tried playing around with the settings (LAN, channels, etc.,) and to no avail, as well as moving around the house, so now I'm stumped.
I had a rooted Evo with 3.26 build with wifi tethering that worked PERFECTLY, got damaged, so my insurance replaced it, and now I have a brand new Evo 4g with 3.29.651.5 build that I just rooted and downloaded wifi tethering, but can't get online! I have "limited connectivity". I didn't have this issue with my last Evo. Anyone else had this problem with a new Evo before?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWifi tethering with BB.9... I've read around and done a couple searches but actually couldn't find the simple answer. What can and can't I do with my phone while tethering?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm kind of ashamed to ask this but I'm curious. Now that I have Froyo and the option in settings to WiFi tether will I get charged an extra fee from Verizon for doing so?
And if so, what are my options for doing it for free with-out root? I don't ever use it nor do I really need it but I can foresee in the future using it some random day.
