Now I am slightly new to the android game. Had a D1 that I traded for and I loved it. Used Astro File manager on there to get swype when it was available. I hear about this app and how it is great and you need it. I have downloaded it and I am not really 100% positive on its purpose. Is it just an easy way to delete files? Are there files I shouldn't delete?

Downloaded Astro File Mgr based on people's reviews. Alot of different file folders on there and am wondering if I delete certain ones, will they permanently delete from the phone or just the program?
Things like:
com.espn.score_center
tmp
playgame site. etc
i recently downloaded astro file manager but when i opened it up it shows no files in any of the folders. is there something i need to do for astro to sync all the files.

I was having trouble updating my " my verizon " app today and kept getting the message installation error package was not signed correctly. i read to delete the app and reinstall, but after i found out that the ota update coming out tomorrow supposed to fix this but i already went in the sys file with astro and deleted the verizon apk and astro said it was successful. is this possible to delete factory apps with astro did i screw my phone up

(Please no more about if we NEED a task killer) What I like about the killer on astro is that it lets me see how much memory and cpu a task or process is actually using before I kill it. I rarely use a task killer. Only when a task seems to be hanging up. It looks like Astro has the functionality I need, so I will remove Advanced Task Killer.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is for all of you who are having troubles getting your application "Wireless Tether for Root Users" to work. I personally kept getting an error on which would say "Initializing WiFi Interface: Failed." I have since been able to get it to work. Here's how.
Disclaimer: Obviously you need a rooted phone for this to work, We're in Root forums for a reason. You will also need the Amon Recovery Partition.
Steps:
1. Boot phone into Recovery by holding Volume Up + Power (End Button).
2. Wipe phone of all data.
3. Flash to the 0_3 rom, install Astro File Manager from the Market
4. Download and install file from below and place into phones SD card.
5. Install from Astro by opening it in App Manger, Open up application and enjoy!

I'm at a loss trying to get Astro to communicate with my Windows XP home computer. I downloaded the SMB module for my MotoDroid, but am not really clear on how to configure my Windows Networking settings and what exactly needs to be entered in Astro's configuration settings. Is there a guide on how to do this on the web?.. if so, I haven't been able to find it.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI uploaded about 50 pictures from iPhoto (using a Mac) just to see what they looked like and then later formatted the Droid's SD card, so the pictures were no longer there.
Now, if I mount the Droid via USB and view the file structure there is a folder named /albumthumbs which contains 50 files, presumably for the 50 pictures a had on the SD card.
To me, these file, unless linking to actual photos stored on the SD card, take up extra space in the phone's memory (not worried about the SD card). I wonder if I can safely delete them (just the files...not the folder)?
If I have photos on my sd card that I want on Astro can I delete the photos off my sd card after putting them on Astro?

Now a strange thing is occurring. I installed an off market app, but I can only see its folder in Android's File Manager, not in Windows XP.
This is going to cause me serious problems because I need to transfer some files into that folder from my PC.
How can I access this App's folder in Win XP?
I searched on how to completely remove both of these and one method was using Terminal Emulate. When i tried this method and typed in su to start the process it would say "permission denied". Do i have to reroot my phone again in order to get rid of these two apps? I'm doing this in order to take my phone to verizon. Do you guys think its necessary to make it perfectly clean of any "rooted" things? It is now unrooted it just has those two icons!! so frustrating. read somewhere else that if these icons are still there that i am still rooted...is this true? also I do not care if i lose everything... I just want my phone restored to factory settings so i can take it in to verizon..

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around with my Droid and I stumbled upon the Files app which lets you add a server. Is this for FTP servers or like a local computer connected to Wi-Fi? I have an FTP server I'd like to connect but it says it cannot be reached, even though I'm 100% sure the details are correct.
And another thing: what is the best File Manager/Explorer app? I found like a dozen of them and honestly, I don't feel like installing them all to find out which one is the best.

Instead of installing another program I would rather just use Astro's process manager, it works plenty well for what I want now.I know you can use Anycut to rename and create shortcuts to most things, but is there a way to create a shortcut to a function within a program? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have tried a lot of custom Roms. I'm on Neat ROM Lite now. Not sure which ROM changed my file access permission settings to cause this problem but I'm not able to delete any files from my external memory card. I was able to delete when I was on stock rom. The other problem is for a few apps I get an error message which says can't install on usb/sd card. I have posted this in another thread some time back but got no response.
This is what my file permission looks like.
I am able to delete when my fone is connected to PC via USB. So I don't think it has anything to do with a faulty sd card.
Just got my Droid working perfect today, I was sooo happy. I am running Smoked Glass V5.0 overclocked at 900 mhz and loving it.
I decided to play with tethering. Got it going on my mac just great. I tapped the stop tethering and after Wifi Tethering shut off I pulled the usb cable without amounting, ohoh. I am usually so careful about this as my Mac get angry at me if I don't.
Now this is the only thing I can think of because then my beautiful widgets wouldn't work right stating it needs an sd card to operate.
Hmm, what's that all about I thought..yep went through the settings and the droid is not seeing it. Pulled and reinserted the sd card number of times. Soft reset a few and even Advanced restored from recently and still does not read it.
My Mac reads the card without a problem through a card reader. So I got this brainstorm to back it up, do a disk repair to see if that helps. No dice...
I erased the disc on the mac hoping the droid would see it and I could format it from in there, no go.
Finally I restored everything after formatting it on my mac and still it does not see it.
The droid just goes into a 3 time boot cycle then it says preparing the sd card, then it freezes and boots again finally to a working state. Of course without my sd card.
So I guess I ruined the sd card by pulling it without amounting? I have the insurance on this so I was thinking to Advance Restore to my status prior to rooting then walk in to Verizon and just say it stopped working.
Do I have to be more cautious and delete the smoked glass files from my sd card or just leave as is. I have everything backed up on my mac so I could just throw the restore file back on there if they replace the sd card for me or if I need to delete all those files to be safe and not jeopardize the warranty.Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
