Samsung Behold 2 :: Don't Have Astro File Manager
Dec 21, 2009
ok so i was playing around with trying to get the stoick mms to install over the twmms.apk and i finally got it working.First of all, if you don't have astro file manager, go download from the market cause you will need it. next go to this link and download the Modified Mms.apk and put it on your sdcard.
Modified Mms.apk-Turn-off debug mode, stop application from lagging [Updated: 08/21] - xda-developers.Now travel to the saved mms.apk on your sdcard and click in it to install and click upgrade.that's it. Now you should have the stock mms.apk.

My lil brother has a Samsung epic and it has a built in task killer. I was wondering do I need one for my HTC Evo. If I search google and then go back to home page google is still running in the background right? I saw somewhere that the astro file manager has a built in task killer.

Is there a way to install apps without service to my Motorola Droid. See I have currently suspended my contract due to a deployment overseas. Obviously my Droid only works in the states, but I was wondering is there a way to install apps on my phone via usb and the inet connection on my laptop?

I have the HTC Incredible and my phone started saving photos to phone memory, instead of the SD card. I want to move the photos with Astro File Manager from emmc/DCIM/100MEDIA to the SD card. Is there a way (with Astro or anything else) where I can move all the photos from phone memory to the SD card?

Now I am slightly new to the android game. Had a D1 that I traded for and I loved it. Used Astro File manager on there to get swype when it was available. I hear about this app and how it is great and you need it. I have downloaded it and I am not really 100% positive on its purpose. Is it just an easy way to delete files? Are there files I shouldn't delete?

I just noticed that Astro has a built-in task killer. (Please no more about if we NEED a task killer) What I like about the killer on astro is that it lets me see how much memory and cpu a task or process is actually using before I kill it. I rarely use a task killer. Only when a task seems to be hanging up. It looks like Astro has the functionality I need, so I will remove Advanced Task Killer.

This is for all of you who are having troubles getting your application "Wireless Tether for Root Users" to work. I personally kept getting an error on which would say "Initializing WiFi Interface: Failed." I have since been able to get it to work. Here's how.
Disclaimer: Obviously you need a rooted phone for this to work, We're in Root forums for a reason. You will also need the Amon Recovery Partition.
Steps:
1. Boot phone into Recovery by holding Volume Up + Power (End Button).
2. Wipe phone of all data.
3. Flash to the 0_3 rom, install Astro File Manager from the Market
4. Download and install file from below and place into phones SD card.
5. Install from Astro by opening it in App Manger, Open up application and enjoy!
Wireless Tether!

I'm at a loss trying to get Astro to communicate with my Windows XP home computer. I downloaded the SMB module for my MotoDroid, but am not really clear on how to configure my Windows Networking settings and what exactly needs to be entered in Astro's configuration settings. Is there a guide on how to do this on the web?.. if so, I haven't been able to find it.

I've searched and I dont believe this has been answered. I accidently set "Astro Manager" as my default to viewing attached MMS/Picutres.
How can I undo this action (to where I have a choice to choose between astro and the view picture app)?

Instead of installing another program I would rather just use Astro's process manager, it works plenty well for what I want now.I know you can use Anycut to rename and create shortcuts to most things, but is there a way to create a shortcut to a function within a program? If not with Anycut, maybe a different program?

Edit: oops sorry, kind of a double post as I eventually found the thread I was after and asked there. But since I pressed the post thread button I may as well ask here.I'm trying to replace a notification file in system/media /audio/notification and not having much luck. Astro won't do it. I've tried the file manager in Android Mate (given su permission) and it deleted the original file and when I transfer the new one in it says it was successful but the file doesn't show up. Reboot and it's still not there. Is there a good free file manager that will work with rooted phones, or what is the best paid one to go for? Thx

Understanding Android file permissions
CODE:.....
To Check Permission at anytime in ADB just Type:
CODE:.......
The next 9 characters define the file permissions. These permissions are given in groups of 3 each.
The first 3 characters are the permissions for the owner of the file or directory.
Example = -rwx------
The next 3 are permissions for the group that the file is owned by.
Example = ----rwx---
The final 3 characters define the access permissions for everyone not part of the group.
Example = -------rwx
There are 3 possible attributes that make up file access permissions.
r - Read permission. Whether the file may be read. In the case of a directory, this would mean the ability to list the contents of the directory.
w - Write permission. Whether the file may be written to or modified. For a directory, this defines whether you can make any changes to the contents of the directory. If write permission is not set then you will not be able to delete, rename or create a file.
x - Execute permission. Whether the file may be executed. In the case of a directory, this attribute decides whether you have permission to enter, run a search through that directory or execute some program from that directory
In addition to the file permission, you can also modify the owner and group of the file. The chown program is used here and its syntax is very simple. You need to be the owner of a file or root to do this.
Understanding Owner Permissions:
The first command is for owner ID, the Second Command is for Group ID.
exp. root.root ( First Root is owner, Second Root is Group ).
Chmod 644 some file, Like Build.prop For testing & then Veiw the Resulted Changes!
Refer to the table below as a quick reference.
Command Line for Both would look like this
CODE:.....
I'll update the chmod with more with More Complex Commands Later
Side Note:Always set owner ( chown ) before Setting Permissions

I have connected my HTC Desire to a samba share where I have my music, movies, etc, but I cannot make Desire play any of the mp3, movies, and I cannot see any photos either? I am using Astro File Manager.
I get no kind of error messages just a black screen with a little icon (which I don't remember right now.) Anyone got an idea of what could be wrong?

Let's say you don't have internet access at the moment. Let's say all you have is fresh install of CyanogenMod 9, which for some reason, does not come with a File Manager :
Let's say you have an apk file on your SD card. How would you install the apk file? Terminal emulator, using which commands or another way?
By the way, ASTRO File Manager vs. ES File Explorer, which one and why?

How come this is the only file manager on the market (that I've found... I went through quite a few) that can open an HTML file from your SD card? I was a loyal user of Estrogen until I found that it couldn't.

The version of the software that is most current is version 6 (the phone shipped with version 3).
To ascertain version: Go to Dialer/Hit Star/#9999#
You will see the PDA; Phone; and Software Version numbers in this section
The T939xxxx6 for PDA AND PHONE and then
Software Version - ending in .006 on the last line.
I was told that the reason that I keep seeing the "No update file exists" message when I check "update firmware" is because I have the latest version.
At some point my phone was updated without giving me a message. I did notice the red and blue arrows yesterday. But there was no message. My SD card mounted and dismounted on its own and gave an error message, and then all references to the error and SD card disappeared.
If your phone is/has exhibited this sort of behavior, you may already have the update.

Alright whats up people I was recently searching through and through for a way to get mobile internet without paying that ridiculous android price so as I was searching I stumbled across a regular behold forum at Samsung Behold Forum - New Proxy (TMobileX (Free Internet!)) - UPDATE: Analysis 01.07.10 -> 1500 Users because someone said free internet for it and I gave it a run to see if it would work with our behold 2 and surely enough it does.
Instructions on how to use proxy:
Open up the (default) browser on your Samsung Behold.
Type in the following address into the : tmo-x.co.cc/tmobilex/
Type in the address you want to visit in the form on the page and select whether or not you want to use my HTML trick (free; allows you to see sites in full HTML not 'WAP-stripped').

After many attempts to try and use the terminal emulator that is already preloaded onto the behold 2 , and many failures..After trying out different Terminal Em.'s and always having my phone lag because they wernt made for it...i have finally found a way to get terminal emulator working with no lag or no slow down in performance... First you must have root,of course, Next, Use an app called root explorer or something similar and goto the folder /system/app/ and find the two files Term.apk and Term.odex, and MOVE them to your sd card from your phone, you want them gone from your system/app folder After that simply goto the market and search for Terminal Emulator , re-download and there you have it, Working term. em. on the behold 2.Peace Ladz.
