HTC EVO 4G :: Setting Wallpaper From Stored Images
Jul 7, 2010
Under gallery, I've tried setting wallpaper from images stored. I'm experiencing two problems:
1) When using the green border to select the part of the image I'd like, it never stretches to the full size of the image. It maxes out at about half the size of any image.
2) Once cropped after clicking set as wallpaper, the wallpaper shows way too zoomed in and I lose at least half the image I cropped.

Anyone know where the moments wallpaper gallery images are stored? I can't find em on the SDCard. I'm also trying to add my own custom images that I've put on the card and every time I set them as my wallpaper they seem soooo zoomed in? I've tried resizing them from 1600 to like 480xwhatever and I still get the same results.

Where are the images that you scan stored? Are they stored on your phone? Or on a database at Google? (They are stored somewhere since you can see the history of images you have used with Goggles).

As stated in the title I would like to know where exactly the default homescreen wallpaper image is stored on the ICS file system?
I am using version 4.0.3
Say for example I have a friend with a cool background wallpaper and that I want a copy of it. Where exactly would I look in the android file system on his phone to get a copy of it?
Note: I do not want to download an app which manages my wallpaper images I want to find out how it works on ICS so that I can manage it myself.
I googled a bit and found the tutorial below at the end of this email. It would appear that (on Gingerbread) wallpaper is managed by framework-res.apk
When I looked however at the different png files in "framework-res/res/drawable-hdpi" on my ICS installation I nothing what so ever that looks like my current home screen.
The wallpaper is stored under the system/media
On ICS I have 4 folders at that level
alarms
notifications
ringtones
ui
On ICS there are no images in any of these folders. The above was most likely true for Gingerbread but not ICS.
Is wallpaper managed by the launcher or by ICS itself?

I am trying to modify this example:
http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-gridview.html
But instead of displaying images that are resources, I want to display Drawables that I currently am storing in a List.
Can anyone instruct me on how I would modify
code...
To display my drawable items instead?

Trying to set myself up with a nice wallpaper, so I went to interfacelift.com, found an image w/ 800x480 resolution (this is correct for the Dinc, right?), and once i bring up the image in my browser, I long tap, click save image, and then it just says download unsuccessful, and nothing else. I also tried finding an option for "set as wallpaper" but couldn't find anything.

I've been searching on this forum for hours now and can't seem to find any information on a work-around for cropping images for the wallpaper on my Samsung Moment. I've tried "Wallpaper Set & Save" and it just crops it automatically. I just installed the ADW Home Launcher and I can get up to 7 screens on it... but for some reason, my phone still wants to perform as if it's running on 3 screens. So it just automatically crops it.

Is there a way to have 7 different images as backgrounds/wallpaper as apposed to one large image that scrolls? I saw a TV commercial with an android phone (not sure which carrier) but as the person scrolled thru the 7 screens, there was a different background image/wallpaper on each of them. It definitely was HTC Sense UI that I saw in the commercial.
If not, is there an app that can do this?

My mobile is xolo q800, see my attachments in 100 % zoom .1st image shows a comparison between the original pic (left side) and the same pic as my phone wallpaper (right side) with no cropping and scrollable taken by default screenshot (hold vol- and power button simultaneously). i have marked the problem areas with black circles for u to compare notice the scar below the eyes appears smudged in my phone...the same pic looks good without smudging when viewed with astro file manager or quickpic....but even when i set the same pic from quickpic(no smudging in quickpic app) as the wallpaper....the wallpaper looks smudged again.

You know that you can get settings toggle widgets i.e mobile, WiFi, airplane? Well when I set up the widgets I see that it will have a certain image next to it for example with 'mobile widget' there is a blue planet type image, which I have seen other people have on screenshots via thread on here. However when I actually have the widget on screen its just boring black with 2 arrow pointing opposite ways. Anybody know why or how to change it?

I am getting an error from Eclipse when I use this xml file (res / drawable/btnswitch.xml) to designate different button conditions
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@drawable/btn_st_rd" />
<!-- pressed --> <item android:state_focused="true"
android:drawable="@drawable/btn_st_gr" /> <!-- focused --> <item android:drawable="@drawable/btn_st_gr" /> <!-- default --> </selector>
I call it in my layout file with this code:
<Button android:id="@+id/startTimer_btn" android:src="@drawable/btnswitch"" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" />
Eclipse says it can't run the configuration because I have errors but does not show any errors. And when I remove the xml code (to go back to my original code which just sets a background image for the Button) it says that now has errors. I have to restart Eclipse to get the original code to run again.

I'm setting the wallpaper using any one of the available methods:
- getApplicationContext().setWallpaper(bitmap) - WallpaperManager.getInstance(context).setBitmap(bitmap)
The image I'm using is 320 * 400, but when it gets set only the center section of the image is displayed, like the image is way too big for the screen. My screen is hi-res, and this should fit into it easily.

I was trying to make an app which also had the facility to let user select wallpaper he would like to set. I have managed this by calling the Gallery Intent. Once the user selects a specific image, the data path of the image is returned to me which then i preview to the user by setting the image onto an imageview.
The problem crops up when the image size (and/or resolution) is greater than what android expects. This results in failure of my module.
And as if this was not enough, wen the user tries to select some other wallpaper(and in my test case the "other" wallpaper was also of size >700kb) then the app crashes with the "OutOfMemoryException"...
For Gallery Intent i use:
CODE:............
For setting the wallpaper i use:
CODE:.......
So i have 2 problems to deal with:
How to crop the image before setting it as wallpaper...Cant understand y OutOfMemoryException is thrown, coz none of my image sizes exceed even 1mb... and i guess the VM budget in case Of N1 is 24Mb if m not mistaken...

I just purchased a fascinate today and it's pretty solid, however I noticed that when I try to set a custom picture for the background, it won't let me select the whole picture and it zooms in ridiculously too much. Now, I've tried almost everything, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me?Oh, if you have the fascinate, download handscent for messaging. I had a blackberry before the fascinate and it's similar to the crunch sms for blackberry. It's convenient because it allows you to customize the length of the vibrations and led lights, but the fascinate doesn't seem to have led light capability. It also allows you to customize the bubbles a well as the colors per contact and all that. Definitely something to look into.

Is there a way to do it? I took a picture in portrait that fits the Droid X screen size perfectly and I want to use that as my wallpaper. I have scrollable wallpaper off and don't use the landscape mode for the home screen. I have that turned off as well. So really it makes no sense and its highly annoying.
I made a video to show what I was talking about because its kind of hard to explain...or some people just don't get it. Whatever if you don't understand let me know and I'll post the link up to youtube after its done uploading.

I am able to set Home Wallpaper without the picture losing quality. However, I still can't set LockScreen Wallpaper without risking quality in the picture.
Why does this happen? Why the hell can't I enjoy the 100% good quality HD wallpapers that I download? Every time I set one it instantly loses quality.
