Samsung Moment :: Cropping Images For Wallpaper Work Around?
Jun 25, 2010
I've been searching on this forum for hours now and can't seem to find any information on a work-around for cropping images for the wallpaper on my Samsung Moment. I've tried "Wallpaper Set & Save" and it just crops it automatically. I just installed the ADW Home Launcher and I can get up to 7 screens on it... but for some reason, my phone still wants to perform as if it's running on 3 screens. So it just automatically crops it.

Anyone know where the moments wallpaper gallery images are stored? I can't find em on the SDCard. I'm also trying to add my own custom images that I've put on the card and every time I set them as my wallpaper they seem soooo zoomed in? I've tried resizing them from 1600 to like 480xwhatever and I still get the same results.

I found some pretty neat wallpapers, 480x800 I believe, and would like to use them on my EVO. Looking at them in the Gallery they are damn sweet, BUT when I try to set them as Wallpaper a cropping tool pops up.
I want to use the images as they are seen in the gallery, cropping doesn't cover the entire image and looks like day old death. Am I asking for something that's impossible?

I need a website or app where I can find wallpapers that I dont need to crop.There is nothing more frustraing than browsing through all these beautiful wallpapers and then when I want to use one, I can only use 50% of the picture.I absolutely love to look through wallpapers and save them on my phone, I change my wallpaper every other day, but hate the fact that I can only see part of the picture.

I have my wallpaper fixed so it doesn't move when I move from screen to screen. Since I'm using a fixed wallpaper why does it still want me to crop an image? I have an image on my phone that fits the screen perfectly but when I go to set it as a wallpaper it wants to crop it and cut the image pretty much in half which is really dumb. Anyway around this?

Does anyone know how to set a picture as your wallpaper without cropping the image to fit all 7 screens on the evo. Basically I had a wallpaper app called "shake them up" which allowed me to set any of my pictures as the wallpaper without cropping them. After the latest update the app is making me crop like the phone does.

I am using HTC One V (Android 4.0). And as in other phones, when using default HTC Sense launcher, I am unable to set any random image as wallpaper without cropping. One V comes with screen resolution of 480x800 and I downloaded few wallpapers with this specific resolution. But HTC still forces me to crop almost half of image which is irksome.
It sets full image as wallpaper but when I move to right or left for alternate desktops, I get thick black edge. I even selected "Scroll" but still same problem. With no scroll, it goes completely wrong.
Quickpic - They say, use "set as quickpic wallpaper" but this option doesn't work too. It shows a frame to crop which doesn't expand to cover entire screen and if I dont do anything frame, it set image inside frame as wallpaper.

Is there a way to do it? I took a picture in portrait that fits the Droid X screen size perfectly and I want to use that as my wallpaper. I have scrollable wallpaper off and don't use the landscape mode for the home screen. I have that turned off as well. So really it makes no sense and its highly annoying.
I made a video to show what I was talking about because its kind of hard to explain...or some people just don't get it. Whatever if you don't understand let me know and I'll post the link up to youtube after its done uploading.

Why do you have to crop a pic when selecting as wallpaper or bbm profile pic? On previous platforms I've always been able to zoom out of the pic to make it fit. Having to crop every photo is getting very annoying! Any way around this or how to zoom out of pictures?

I have a small project in which I download images from Internet in the form of drawable and use them in Imageview for which I have provided functionality similar to an Imagebutton but without the gray edges. The question is that is there any functionality in Android (similar to IPhone) by which we can crop the drawable from edges to make them rounded edged drawable. Even if its a "not-tested-neither-recommended" method, do let me know. I would like to work on this a bit.

I am currently working on a wallpaper application and I was wondering if there is a way to make the bitmap look less blurry and more crisp once it is set as a wallpaper. Does it just require cropping the picture and resizing it to fit perfectly the size of the screen or there is some other way of solving this issue? I read that the application wallpaper set and save is able to deliver very good quality wallpapers once launched!

I'm trying to crop a photo to use in a Live Wallpaper but I'm getting a FileNotFoundException when the crop activity tries to save my new cropped image. This is the code I'm using:
File file = new File(getFilesDir(), "wallpaper.jpg");
Intent intent = new Intent("com.android.camera.action.CROP");
intent.setData(uri);
DisplayMetrics metrics = new DisplayMetrics();
getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getMetrics(metrics);
intent.putExtra("outputX", metrics.widthPixels * 2);
intent.putExtra("outputY", metrics.heightPixels);
intent.putExtra("aspectX", metrics.widthPixels * 2);
intent.putExtra("aspectY", metrics.heightPixels);
intent.putExtra("scale", true);
intent.putExtra("noFaceDetection", true);
intent.putExtra("output", Uri.parse("file:/" + file.getAbsolutePath()));
startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_CROP_IMAGE);
The wallpaper.jpg file seems to exist on DDMS file explorer so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

If you are needing an extra ac adapter, car charger and sync cable, I found an awesome deal here...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VTEG7Q/ref=oss_T15_product. For 5.95 + shipping of like 2 something you can't beat it. Ordered mine today. Now I can keep a charger at work and you never know when your sync cable may die and a car charger.

When I get picture texts, it comes up with a play button in the message thread. Clicking it will 'play' the image for 10 seconds, and I found out I can tap the screen and hit pause to look at the pic longer... but I can't figure out how to save the image. I've tried:
holding finger on the play button in-thread
holding finger on the image
hitting the menu button on either page
with no success.

perhaps a bit of a newbie question - but having some issues with inline pictures with the email application. I am on Gmail....and using the email application. When I go on the phone using the browser to gmail I can see the pictures, when using the email app I cannot. Two questions.
1. Is there a difference between the email app that comes with the phone and the Gmail app. I have a Gmail email address and no other email accounts.
2. Are there other apps that are better about inline images?

Everytime I go on instagram or facebook, its 1 50/50 chance that I can see photos. Most of the time on instagram the photos will not load and keep telling me to refresh the image which never works. This has been happening since I got the phone less than a month ago.

I'm copying this from another post because I don't want it to get buried. This is for everyone out there having trouble getting Live Wallpapers to work on their Moment. I give FULL credit to the other posters.*6/30 EDIT! - The new links are now working properly! -This post is assuming you already have the 2.1 update-Files Used:
CCLeaner
OLD CL14 SAMSUNG INSTALLER
New Recovery File
Live Wallpaper ZIP
-Follow EXACTLY. Don't deviate-
1) Go to Control Panel. Remove EVERYTHING Samsung from your Add/Remove section. This will remove all of the drivers etc.
2) Go to your Program Files (x86 if needed) section under 'My Computer'. Delete the 'Samsung Electronics' folder.
3) If you have CCLeaner and are comfortable using the Registry tool, clean your registry of anything Samsung. This will ensure that your new install doesn't use the old stuff.
4) RESTART
5) Install the OLD CL14 SAMSUNG INSTALLER onto your PC. This is important as the NEW installer won't use non-signed packages.
6) RESTART
7) Download the new Recovery and KEEP IT IN ITS DOWNLOADED FORMAT. Take off the MD5 at the end of the file so it ends in TAR.
8) Go back to the Samsung Electronics folder (that you would've deleted earlier) and head to SWUpgradeModelsBinary. Remove the file inside, probably called "SPH-M900_MR2_DE03_REL_1.tar". Delete it, move it - whatever.
9) Copy the Recovery file you just downloaded into that folder. DO NOT EXTRACT IT.
10) TURN OFF YOUR PHONE and remove the battery for about 10 seconds. Replace battery. DO NOT TURN IT BACK ON.
11) HOLD 'VolDown+Camera+End'. A DOWNLOADING screen should appear.
12) Start the SWUpdate that should be on your desktop. Otherwise, it's back in the Samsung Electronics folder from earlier.
13) FOLLOW THE ONSCREEN INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY. I can't stress that enough...
14) After it applies the Recovery file (which is why you placed it in the Binary folder), RESTART YOUR PHONE.
15) Copy the Live Wallpaper ZIP file to your SDCard. DO NOT put it into a folder. Just copy it to the root of the card (meaning it's by itself and not in a folder). DO NOT EXTRACT.
16) POWER OFF YOUR PHONE
17) HOLD 'VolDown+Call(Green)+End(Red)'. This will put you into Recovery Mode. Using the VolUp/VolDown keys, scroll to 'Apply Update.zip' and press the center key. Select the Zip File you just copied to your SDCard. After it processes, RESTART YOUR PHONE.
18) BOOYA! After your phone boots up, you should be able to hit Menu then Wallpapers and you should see Live Wallpapers as a heading.This doesn't ROOT your phone, only adds Live Wallpapers to your Moment. If you want to run CUSTOM Live's, you'll need to ROOT your phone.After the zip is applied, you can delete it from your SDCard.

Alright, I recently upgraded to a Samsung Moment. I used to have a Palm Centro and loved it. I do love my Samsung Moment but it's so hard to find correct answers to my questions...
Calendar: When you add an event into the calender on the Month view there is a notification on there (in green) that there's an event on the a specific day. Questions: is there a way to change that color for different events?
Photos: In my gallery, I want to make separate folders for specific pictures. Is there a way to make specific folders?
Email: Is there a way to delete multiple emails at one time?
Wallpaper: There are 3 screens on the Samsung Moment. Is there a way to make the 3 individual screens different backgrounds? I would like different backgrounds for the different screens....

Yesterday I downloaded OPEN HOME... not sure if that effected it or what, but now when I try to set a wallpaper... its long and vertical and doesn't scroll with screens... its a stationary wallpaper... Any pic I set does this except for the pre set wallpapers on the phone...
