I am new to the whole android OS and looking to join in very soon. The feature I am mostly interested in is WiFi tethering. I would like you guys to suggest to me the cheapest handset that I can accomplish such a feature with? Whether the phone comes with the application to do it or it can be done via alternate methods [root].

Ordered my DX on Friday, phone is currently in route and will be in my hands tomorrow via Fed Ex.One question visual voicemail isn't a free feature with Verizon!? I'm coming from AT&T and iPhone, never had to pay for visual voicemail. I called into VZW they said it's a $2.99/month add-on, really?Who uses VVM and who doesn't?I know there was an app for the Incredible that would push your voicemails so you can boot the app and use it just like VVM, any good ones for the X?

Can someone please explain to me if tethering is free and legal? Why do some sites say Verizon will charge extra? Will they? Do they? So can you do it free and legally? How do you do it?

Okay, so I've read things about rooting your EVO and one of my favorite aspects is the mobile hotspot/tethering thing you can get for free. I looked through the forums to see if there's an easier way of accomplishing this than rooting my whole phone. I've taken a few computer classes, so I have a decent knowledge base, but rooting just seems way over my head. Anyway, is it possible to do this without rooting the whole EVO?

PdaNet has been one of the most popular software for Windows Mobile phones, Palm OS phones and the iPhone. It is now ported to the Android system! Unlike other tethering software that only supports Proxy connections, PdaNet provides you with FULL Internet access so all your email, instant message programs will work without any setting changes on the computer. Just like the old PdaNet, it is as simple as clicking on the PdaNet tray icon and your computer will go online instantly.
You can follow the latest update of PdaNet for Android at

I read somewhere that rooted phones can use the mobile hotspot feature that most come with, without Verizon knowing about it. I've also however heard that sometimes it still gets back to the carrier and they cancel your service. I've been using my tethering in very small doses because I'm not sure if big red is monitoring me. If they aren't I want to take full advantage of the tethering feature.

I'm leaning towards getting an EVO and the "WiFi tethering" seems like an amazing feature, esp. since one can connect up to 8 computers to it. I'm actually looking to upgrade my home DSL internet connection and this might be a good way to do it. However, it stinks this feature costs $30 a month, per line. Is there anyway to get this for free?

what is that one feature that wows you on the EVO so far? I know it's hard to pick just one. For me the Google Navigation with the Street View integration just does it. Simply amazing. Post yours.

It seems that you can pinch your homescreen to see previews of homescreens, you can rearrange them like you could on the HTC Desire HD/Z and can remove and add more, has anyone noticed that?

I don't get it? I've never had a phone make such a pain until I got my Hero. In fact, it's never been a feature in any phone I've had until the Hero. So what's the big deal? Why bother including it if it doesn't do anything useful?

I did a search and I couldn't even find a single result for "last.fm" or "last fm" so hopefully I haven't overlooked anything. Anyway onto the point, I'm a Galaxy S owner living in Australia and I want to know if I can use Last.fm's radio feature if I pay. I understand that in supported countries (of which there are 3) users can listen to the radio feature no problems over 3G, WiFi and even EDGE for free, what I want to know is whether signing up to Last.fm's paid access will allow me to do the same thing in the land of Oz.
I'm really hoping & praying this is going to be the solution for me a I'd LOOOVE that feature to go with my new phone... especially as it'd be a huge advantage over my iPhone using buddies who can't get the app here

One of the main reason I purchased this phone is to mirror the screen in my car and use the GPS on my in-dash. From my reading, it seems that it has been disabled and there is no clear answer that I have found stating that the hardware to perform TV Out was removed. Has anyone investigated this feature and had luck? I am still on a hunt to fix this feature because it's a big factor on whether or not I'll keep the phone.

Everybody knows how when you get an email from a Blackberry user, it will say at the bottom something to the effect of "sent from my Blackberry on Verizon Wireless" I have the first generation Motorola Droid. Why do my emails not say something similar? But a friend of mine recently purchased the Droid X and sent me an email and his email stated that it was "sent via Droid on Verizon Wireless". This feature would be nice to have to let people know you are mobile.

I would search to see if this was already asked... but I don't even know how to word it, or what to call it, so I must just ask.
On my Droid Incredible, if I launch the People app to view my contacts and hold the Menu button while viewing the main contacts list, a keyboard will pop up. Type on the keyboard, and the typed letters appear in a smokey overlay over your contacts... but it doesn't do anything.
Does anyone know what this does? Without rebooting my phone, I cannot get rid of the *banner* I guess you'd call it. I've done this twice-- once on accident (thought the keyboard would allow me to search contacts), and once just now trying to figure it out!

Not sure if it's a Captivate feature or LauncherPro that's doing it but if you pinch in on the home screen, it bring up all your home screens at once so you can switch between then similar to Spaces on OSX.

I have a launch day H/W version 2 Evo that doesn't have a zoom feature for the camcorder. I thought it was odd from day one, but never thought much more of it until I looked at two of my friends Evo's over the weekend. They both have H/W version 3, and guess what? Both of their phones have a zoom feature for the camcorder. Does anybody else have H/W version 2 without the zoom feature? I am running 2.2, and never had it with 2.1 either.

Just got a Samsung Galaxy S on Orange UK, but when they ported my old number to this SIM card from vodafone, the 'my number' feature displays the old number and not the working one. How do I get it to say my actual number as that old number isn't even valid anymore, and its annoying. Hope I'm explaining my problem clearly enough, hard to explain.
