HTC EVO 4G :: No Camcorder Zoom Feature On H/W Version 2?
Oct 11, 2010
I have a launch day H/W version 2 Evo that doesn't have a zoom feature for the camcorder. I thought it was odd from day one, but never thought much more of it until I looked at two of my friends Evo's over the weekend. They both have H/W version 3, and guess what? Both of their phones have a zoom feature for the camcorder. Does anybody else have H/W version 2 without the zoom feature? I am running 2.2, and never had it with 2.1 either.

Running a stock 2.2 Desire. I was pretty sure that you used to be able to zoom in the camcorder (I mean before you start recording), but tried it today and can't pinch to zoom nor is there anyway to get up the onscreen control. Also, in still picture mode, pinch to zoom doesn't work, though it is still possible to zoom using the onscreen control.

Ours are due tomorrow. On our cheap pocket digital cameras, like the DX, you cannot zoom in camcorder mode.HOWEVER, if you are in camera mode, zoom in, and THEN switch to camcorder mode, the camcorder adopts the currently zoomed in setting.

Anyone tried this yet? Not quite there on features yet, but regular updates and I can see this being a big player. Loving the skins and animations. Zoom wheel is pretty cool too or you can use a slider if you prefer. Was playing around with some of the new skin packs - one of them is kind of scary!

From what I have seen in some articles the camera and camcorder functions / look and feel haven't changed. anybody else know of differences other than the addition of crappy new apps i didn't ask for... thanks T-Mobile

I am having my Galaxy S delivered tomorrow and was wondering what protection people are using. I was going to use some sort of film protector, such as Zagg invisible shield and a Flip Case. But the only flip case I can find for the Galaxy S looks horrid, and I am not sure on the texture of Zagg Invisible Shields.I have also considered silicone gel cases, but I am having trouble finding one that is nice, and pouches in combo with a screen protector. What would you use and if I did buy a screen protector, which brand should it be, I want one that will protect but with minimum difference to the feel or colour of the screen.

I used to be a C/C++ programmer before getting in to android. I am not sure how people maintain 2 versions of a program without using #ifdef preprocessor macros. Right now I am changing the package name in eclipse and changing the code manually, but this seems really inefficient. Can anybody suggest a good way of having 2 or more projects that share most of the code?

I'm planning on getting LockBot when I get my EVO and I was wondering, what's the difference between the free version and paid version. I basically want the Moto Droid lock screen on my EVO for the slide to toggle sound on/off feature due to the lack of an external switch on the EVO. Would I be best to get the paid version or will the free version do that?

I have an application called HiFiCorder which records audio amazingly well (up to 320k). It sounds excellent. WHY does the camcorder app record audio so terribly? Is there a camcorder app out there which records video very well and audio at a bitrate above 192k?

Just started playing around with the camcorder app today. Which is a better file format to get the best quality the camcorder app is currently capable of? Are there pluses and minuses to one or the other. This might be a separate issue, but when I tried playing .mpeg4 videos back on Windows Media Player I did not have any sound, I have not tried h.263?

I have went through every option I can possibly think of and the quality looks bad. There is no difference upon selecting 720P than any other option. I have seen others test videos and mine is nowhere close.
Update: It seems it was a fluke. All is well with my Evo once again. You may tune back in to your regularly scheduled program.

I was just wondering if anyone knows what the actual hardware capability of this device's Camcorder actually is, or, in other words, what is the possibility of a software app/firmware upgrade in being able to improve the quality of the Sprint Hero's recorded video? The video examples which I have seen so far on YouTube seem good, but the only thing tugging between my getting an Instinct HD for Christmas, vs. the Sprint Hero, is the video quality difference. So long as a very real potential exists to narrow the gap between the two in regards to this issue, then I will most likely feel confident in springing for the Hero.
