HTC Desire :: Trying To Use Hotspot Feature
Nov 24, 2010my router has packed up so I am trying to use the hotspot feature on the Desire. I connect my pc to it okay and can download my email ok but if I try to go to any website I get a message saying Forbidden - access denied by access control list. How do I change this in Windows 7?

Jul 12, 2010I have just migrated from a BB Bold to an HTC Desire, and this is my question:
In the BB Bold, one of the functions it had was that you could switch your phone to the 'Bedside mode', which would put the phone into a 'Sleep' mode and it would not allow any calls or messages to be delivered until the phone was taken out of the Bedside mode, and then you could see your messages that have been queued and waiting to be delivered.
In the Desire, does the 'Flight' mode carry out the same function or not? If not, is there another function that can put the Desire into sleep mode, keep the Alarm function active, and queue the messages for delivery when the phone is taken out of the Flight or Sleep mode?
HTC Desire :: Visual Voicemail Feature Preloaded?
Apr 22, 2010I really like the look of the Desire, but I'm unclear as to whether it has Visual Voicemail, like on the Nexus? Don't they call it something like Google Voice? Is that built into the Desire? I know you can get apps for it but is the cool thing where the phone automatically turns the voice message into text built into the Desire? Also, I've seen lots of Nexus-like voice-to-text keyboard apps on this forum. Do they use the same technology as the Nexus One and do they too require a data connection?

Oct 2, 2010I purchased a HTC Desire a few days ago and I think it's great. However, there is one thing that bothers me. I've been quite slow at joining the smartphone community, primarily due to all the reports/stories of high phonebills relating to internet usage. So, having got my hands on the phone its self - I thought I'd play with it for a while and stick to using my home wifi connection for downloading apps and playing with map applications etc.
The phone came pre-installed with Android 2.2 and therefore has this wireless hotspot app built in. So, to see how it worked, I enabled the feature and connected to the phone from my laptop.
My first surprise was that it worked. My laptop was connected to the phone and web pages were loading up on it. Realising that my phone was already set up to connect to my wireless router for internet access though, I figured that it was probably sharing that connection with my laptop. Well, at least that's what I was hoping...
At this point I unplugged my home modem/router and tried again. Fully expecting my laptop to complain about the lack of internet connectivity, I was quite shocked to find that web pages were loading up on my laptop and there's now a '3G' logo (with flashing up/down arrows) showing on the top status bar of the phone.
From what I've said here, my only conclusion is that my phone is transferring data over the mobile phone network, but considering that I don't have a data plan, how can this be? If I disable the hotspot feature (with my home router switched off), my phone cannot access the internet, but if I enable the wireless hotspot feature of the phone and connect to it - my laptop can.
My SIM card is from Tchibo Germany (o2 network).

Oct 28, 2010I had the proximity sensor problem which was fixed after firmware update/blowing on the sensor. However, now neither the flip to silence the phone on an incoming call feature (the setting is on) OR the flip to activate the speakerphone when in a call now works. The flip to silence the phone on an incoming call was working before the firmware update.

Since I've installed 2.2 the message app on the desire jumps to the top of a message thread randomly while I'm writing a message meaning I have to scroll to the bottom again. This can be very annoying in thread which I have lots of messages. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Jul 16, 2010So Ive been messing with my contacts and exported them to Gmail where I edited them.I now want those contacts back on my phone as google contacts but don't know how to do it.In the people setting I currently have all my contacts saved as 'phone' but there are some errors. The ones Ive edited on Gmail have all the errors fixed.I have no contacts as 'google' in the people setting.Ive tried syncing with google (with contacts selected) but nothing came through. Could this be because I still had the contacts open in Gmail on my laptop ?I also tried selecting export from Gmail which created a CSV (or similar !) file, however this file was only a few bytes in size and when I saved it on the SD card and tried to import in people there was nothing on it ?So all I want to do is get the correct contacts from Gmail onto the people app on the Desire under 'google' contacts.I feel its something simple that im not doing right.

Jul 15, 2010This is my first android device and i'm loving it... but one thing that irks me is the use, or lack thereof, of the back button.
As I am navigating menus and options in the Settings, I cannot simply go back one menu using the back key. For example, if I go to Settings->Battery Manager->Battery Profile Options and want to go back to the Settings screen, I cannot.
Pushing the back button does nothing and I can only go back to the Settings menu by going Home, then re-entering.
Another quirk regarding the back button is when reading emails. Using a regular email account such as Hotmail, I cannot simply read an email and go back to the inbox using the button.
It makes navigating the phone very tedious.

I'm going to purchase a 16GB or 32GB miniSD card for my Desire, but I'll only be able to store music, pictures etc on it until the update when apps can be saved to the SD. Don't get me wrong, the device is amazing, super smooth and fast, good camera, internet loads faster than my old 3GS and open apps in matter of seconds. HTC Desire :: Unroot Back To DJDroid V1.2?

I recently rooted my phone and flashed the DJdroid V1.2 ROM. I was very happy with it but found the 720p choppy. I assumed it was the ROM and that the stock froyo ROM would be flawless so unrooted and updated to the OTA ROM. I've since found its cacka on that too and want to unroot again. Why? Because I hate all the adware that flashes everywhere on my phone now its "stock". The DJDroid ROM maker has removed all that crap "Thanks to the maker". So my question is, before I blindly head back to DJDroid V1.2, are there any other ROMs that I should consider? The main thing for me is that it looks very similar to the stock ROM and has sense as I am comfortable with this arrangement.

Jun 7, 2010Something fishy is going on with her phone. On the home screen when the back key is pressed it brings up the Quick Search. OK, that's no big deal. Not the end of the world.When you navigate through regular menus like Settings the back key works fine. But if, for example, you go to Contacts, Open a contact, tap the address to show it on a map, click on the map to see Street View, you would expect that the back key would back-track you through all of those steps right back to the home screen. But it doesn't. The Quick Search keeps popping up instead and it's quite a job to get back to the home screen.Reboot doesn't change that.Anyone else seen this or has any ideas? It can't be a dodgy button because the navigation works as expected in other circumstances.

In the process I deleted google maps then I lost the navigation icon so I can't find it back. Is there any way to get it back? I can't even access the navigation app from anywhere not even the market. It's the one with the blue arrow.
