Media :: Last.fm's Radio Feature
Sep 9, 2010
I did a search and I couldn't even find a single result for "last.fm" or "last fm" so hopefully I haven't overlooked anything. Anyway onto the point, I'm a Galaxy S owner living in Australia and I want to know if I can use Last.fm's radio feature if I pay. I understand that in supported countries (of which there are 3) users can listen to the radio feature no problems over 3G, WiFi and even EDGE for free, what I want to know is whether signing up to Last.fm's paid access will allow me to do the same thing in the land of Oz.
I'm really hoping & praying this is going to be the solution for me a I'd LOOOVE that feature to go with my new phone... especially as it'd be a huge advantage over my iPhone using buddies who can't get the app here

Anyone know if there is a way to have the Nexus automatically go to Edge when WiFi is enabled? Seems like that would be a smart way to try to maximise battery life...
Maybe it's already doing this, I don't know, since the WiFi symbol blocks the 'E' or '3G' symbol...
But if it doesn't - I propose it as a feature for a future update...
Is there a page that allows Nexus users to propose features? iPhone had this way back...

I am hunting for a podcast player with the ability to pause audio quickly, without searching for the right pixel to tap. Fast forward and rewind would be nice too. Any recommendations? I posted a similar thread for Developers. I have a web site where I am starting to do reviews of Android Apps (and a couple of hand-held devices). ksguy.com I would LOVE to review a pause app or widget there.

For a good experience when listening to music through headphones there is a feature called stereo widening or crossfeed.
See here if you have never heard of this.
Learning Center - HeadRoom Crossfeed | HeadRoom Audio
There are plugins for various software players like winamp, foobar, etc such as this
Bauer stereophonic-to-binaural DSP
Nokia phones have this feature on all their phones. Does anything like this exist for android such as a special app? I have not been able to locate one.

A friend of mine with a Samsung Omnia showed me a way on his phone last night to search for live audio. He quickly did a search on Chicago Bears and found 3 stations during the Monday Night Football game where we could listen to live audio. I wonder if the G1 could do some sort of streaming audio via a radio station.

When driving, I have my Droid X's audio output plugged into my car's radio, the radio's source is set to AUX, and my tunes play through the radio. So far, so good.
Then I bought the BlueAnt S4 Bluetooth phone device so I can make and receive calls while I'm driving. Also fine--except that now the phone is also sending my music to the BlueAnt device.
On the phone, under Settings, Wireless & Networking, Bluetooth Settings, I discovered that I can open up an options screen for the BlueAnt device. It lists two profiles, Phone and Media, both of which were originally checked. Happy to have found this, I unchecked the checkbox next to Media.
But my music is still coming through the BlueAnt device.
I powered the phone off and restarted it. No change, even though the Media profile has remained unchecked.

If I create a playlist from the music library on my phone, does it create a file for the playlist somewhere? I want to be able to play a playlist when I hook my Evo up to my car radio via USB. Scanning so many folders for one song, then doing it again for next song is getting kinda annoying.

Had the Desire for a week and it is driving me mad. I liked listening to BBC radio 2 walking to work - Chris Evans made me laugh and woke me up gently but since the Desire, the reception is intolerable and I don't bother (prev. Sony K800i was great). Have read and searched all I can on tinternet and although others have similar, I have yet to see a fix - I have today emailed HTC but wonder if anyone has found an answer? I have seen mention of thinner headset cables are better (HTC supply is thick) - anyone found a replacement headset that improves this please - you truly would make my week. I am still in the return period but doubt that would work, so would rather find a fix. Other bits 'n bobs I have found which may help you and balance my question are 1. don't use Advanced task killer to close the radio - it doesn't shut it down properly and you can't reuse the radio - if you get this, turn the phone off fully and then it shall work. 2. I like the 3G watchdog app to stop me going over my usage - give it a go 3. Shopsavvy is cool and works really well to scan a barcode and find better prices - Pkt Auctions Ebay app in contrast has never worked for me and seems useless in the wake of Shopsavvy 4. You may well need a new in car handsfree kit - A2DP requirement I think it is - my 2 old ones weren't up to it but a new Parrot kit for 50 does the job and can call from speech etc. 5. The best surprise was the navigation tool - basically satnav which works better than my dedicated satnav - the lady's voice is a little annoying but she gives far better detailed descriptions of the next turn and finds satellites quicker then my old and now redundant machine - give it a go! Anyway, I'll shut up as no doubt you are dying to tell me which headset does make my Desire FM work.

Has anyone been able to stream XM Radio directly from their PC to their phone using XM Tuner or SiriusXMStreamer? I have gotten it to work with Orb, but would prefer to take Orb out of the equation and stream directly from the XM program or use TVersity. Orb streams in a format that uses the camera player, which I do not like. I would prefer an mp3 stream from TVersity, but have not seen where anyone has gotten it to work.

Looking for an Android radio app similar to Pocket Tunes for the Iphone/Ipod Touch that will enable me to listen to local/regional BBC stations on my Verizon Droid. Unable to launch BBC's iPlayer as a Flash Player for Android 2.x has not been released yet. Pocket Tunes' rebroadcast does not require a flash player. None of the apps I've tried in Market Place has been able to capture local BBC stations.

I currently have code that creates rows in a table that hold a string in column 1 with a RadioButton in column 2. There can be a variable number of these rows. That all works just great, but I want to add them to a RadioGroup so only one button can be toggled at a time. When I tried to add the dynamic RadioButton to the RadioGroup AFTER I added it to the table row, I got an error saying that the child (the RadioButton) already had a parent. I agree, it does have one, the TableRow.
can you have radio buttons tied to a radio group inside of a row or, should I just code my own toggle mechanism and avoid RadioGroup all together? I mean, I could code the onClick to unclick all other radio buttons, but I would rather not do this if I can use the build in RadioGroup.
<ScrollView
android:id="@+id/ScrollViewModifyGroups"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent".............

I have multiple radio buttons which I want to layout using a table but also include them in a single radio group. I have the following xml layout:
<RadioGroup android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:id="@+id/Group1">
<TableLayout android:id="@+id/RadioButtons"
android:layout_width="wrap_content".........
But unfortunately the radio buttons inside the table seem to ignore the fact that they're inside of the RadioGroup tags and because of this you can select more than one radio button at the time. I noticed that by removing the table and just having the radio buttons it works just fine. How can I overcome this? Would it be as simple as declaring the radio group inside of the table instead of outside?

I turned on my Droid this morning to listen to MSNBC and I heard the last 5 minutes of Keith Obermann (5:55 am est) and then all of my news and talk channels disappeared! Channels like CNN, C-SPAN, MSNBC and NPR are all gone from my favorites and the channel line-up. There is nothing in the "News and Public Radio" category.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm thinking this must be a temporary glitch but I would hate to lose all of these channels. If you have the Sirius/ XM radio app, would you please check this on your Droid?

Depends on the size and gauge of the wire of your headphones. Also depends on the position of the wires. FM radio is a little picky, but works fine- depending on the points mentioned. Old & wrong: The FM radio on the Inc must be the weakest radio in a phone, evah! Just tried it today and picks up half the channels my Ngage and N900 pick up well. A lot of channels barely come in, or are static filled. I thought Steely Dan said "FM has no static at all"? Makes the CDMA radio seem not that bad, in comparison I know- at LEAST it has a radio. Must be set to suppa powwa savva mode

I just got my Droid but I frequently use Pandora and Last.FM on my computer at work. Last.FM - Seems like the service has a better list of artists than Pandora so i switched to it on my PC recently. On Android the service is the same but as an app it tends to be open in the background all the time and suffers from not being able to pause (like the PC version). The scrobbling could be nice for some users and it links to the android player. Sound Quality seems excellent, best of the three so far. Pandora - Haven't gotten to use it too much because it takes so long to load my station. Sound Quality seemed fine with my limited use.
Slacker Radio - Has the most music options of the three and seems likes the best application. It has plenty of options like keeping the screen from freezing while plugged in and on wifi without having to change your phone settings. Had to stop listening from poor sound quality though! Sound Quality started ok but a bassy boom and click started appearing after a few songs, forced to switch to Last.FM.

Android supports recording from the mic to amr format in the 3gp container. On the upcoming HTC Desire or even current HTC Desire, suppose I'm listening to the lovely built in FM radio and I want to make a recording of a breakfast show; would that be possible? Is there a possiblity for an app to be created that could record the built in radio in this manner? What about recording in a better quality like mp3? Does Android need to provide API access to the output speakers or... I am not reffering to internet/streaming radio, this is about the built in FM radio found in the latest HTC smartphones.

Even registering the broadcast receiver at the highest priority still fails to receive the Bluetooth media button events on the HTC Hero phone. The Bluetooth media button registration code works fine on the other Android phones that I have tested. Apparently this isn't the first time HTC has done something like this, as I also found a report of a similar problem on one of the HTC Microsoft Mobile Devices reported here
It seems extremely short sighted of HTC to code their media player so that it grabs the Bluetooth AVRCP media button events in such a way that other applications are unable to work with the Bluetooth head phone buttons and Bluetooth in car stereo systems.................

How do I get my custom ringtones from rooted media folder to show up in selection menus?
I am rooted and have successfully copied .ogg .wav or .mp3 ringtones to system/media/audio/ringtones, notifications or alarms folders. I can even play them from those folders on press.
My hassle is I am not able to select these as my tones. They don't show up in the menus. I want them in the root because if I am connected to my pc and an email/text/call comes in that is assigned a Custom tone on sd, then my tones revert back to a default tone and I have to reset them all when i disconnect from pc
