View 11 RepliesWhile USB tethering over 3G/4G networks doesn't work unless you pay for the $30/mo hotspot feature (which I still cannot get Sprint to admit is a stupid name since I don't want a hotspot, only tethering, but I digress), you can tether and use the phone's WiFi connection.
Why would you want to? Well, I have a laptop that requires a USB dongle and now I have one less thing to carry. OK, not the best reason, but I found it interesting.
I don't understand the tethering could someone give me a example on how it works?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you have flashed your rom or rooted, did you get tethering to work? if you have NOT flashed rom but you rooted, did you get tethering to work? if you flashed but did NOT root, did you get tethering to work? if you did NOT flash and did NOT root, did you get tethering to work? would like to install pdanet solution to tethering which states it works without rooting.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a wireless tethering App that works with the HTC One?
I really like the HTC One, except for the glaring problem that HTC phones don't work with Foxfi. I'm going to upgrade my phone soon, and while the HTC One is my first choice, if I can't find a wireless tethering solution I'll end up going with the Samsung Galaxy S4 instead.
So I did like this: I made a backup with myBackup. I reseted the phone to factory deafults. I launched it back and checked tethering - it was working fine, as it should. I restored my backup of apps and data, without phone settings. The tethering doesn't work anymore. Could there be an app which is disabling it and common to all of us having this problem?
I include list of my apps created with MyAppsList:

PdaNet has been one of the most popular software for Windows Mobile phones, Palm OS phones and the iPhone. It is now ported to the Android system! Unlike other tethering software that only supports Proxy connections, PdaNet provides you with FULL Internet access so all your email, instant message programs will work without any setting changes on the computer. Just like the old PdaNet, it is as simple as clicking on the PdaNet tray icon and your computer will go online instantly.
You can follow the latest update of PdaNet for Android at

does anyone know for sure?

when i plug my phone in to charge or access data over usb i see the option, but if i click it it requires me to log in.. what exactly is the deal with that? is it trying to charge me? can third party apps share net access across usb?
Can someone please explain to me if tethering is free and legal? Why do some sites say Verizon will charge extra? Will they? Do they? So can you do it free and legally? How do you do it?
View 18 Replies View RelatedOkay, so I've read things about rooting your EVO and one of my favorite aspects is the mobile hotspot/tethering thing you can get for free. I looked through the forums to see if there's an easier way of accomplishing this than rooting my whole phone. I've taken a few computer classes, so I have a decent knowledge base, but rooting just seems way over my head. Anyway, is it possible to do this without rooting the whole EVO?

View 36 Replies View RelatedFor folks who have updated to Froyo (2.2) can you do wired tethering for free ? I travel on occasion (2 or 3 times a year) and this would be a useful feature.
View 6 Replies View Related1.) What is it exactly?
2.) If I root my phone and do it is it free?
I read somewhere that rooted phones can use the mobile hotspot feature that most come with, without Verizon knowing about it. I've also however heard that sometimes it still gets back to the carrier and they cancel your service. I've been using my tethering in very small doses because I'm not sure if big red is monitoring me. If they aren't I want to take full advantage of the tethering feature.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAlright whats up people I was recently searching through and through for a way to get mobile internet without paying that ridiculous android price so as I was searching I stumbled across a regular behold forum at Samsung Behold Forum - New Proxy (TMobileX (Free Internet!)) - UPDATE: Analysis 01.07.10 -> 1500 Users because someone said free internet for it and I gave it a run to see if it would work with our behold 2 and surely enough it does.
Instructions on how to use proxy:
Open up the (default) browser on your Samsung Behold.
Type in the following address into the : tmo-x.co.cc/tmobilex/
Type in the address you want to visit in the form on the page and select whether or not you want to use my HTML trick (free; allows you to see sites in full HTML not 'WAP-stripped').
I'm leaning towards getting an EVO and the "WiFi tethering" seems like an amazing feature, esp. since one can connect up to 8 computers to it. I'm actually looking to upgrade my home DSL internet connection and this might be a good way to do it. However, it stinks this feature costs $30 a month, per line. Is there anyway to get this for free?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI remembered from my G1 days a way to sync the E-Mail app up to Yahoo's free (not PoP3) servers so I gave it try on my new BH2 and it works just fine:Here are the steps:
1. Enter Yahoo ID and Password (hint, just use your "username", not the whole joeblow@yahoo.com
2. Select Manual Setup
3. Setup IMAP
4. Incoming server is imap.mail.yahoo.com
5. Port is 143
6. Security Type is "TLS (if available)"
7. Leave IMAP path prefix blank
8. Hit next
9. SMTP Server is smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
10. Port is 25
11. Security is again TLS (if available)
12. Check Require sign-in
13. Verify username and password
14. enjoy
To Sync up, you CANNOT be on WiFi (dunno why, maybe Yahoo has a deal with T-Mobile?).One other note: if after rechecking all your settings and it still says "invalid username/password" try going onto your Yahoo Account and change your "Location" to ASIA ! Weird I know, but for some reason, some people can't get this to work with US-English as their Yahoo Locale (not talking about your phone's settings here, all on Yahoo site end!).
How can I do it?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI heard there was one named PDAnet but its not in the market. Anyone know on any apps that do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWas wondering if Pdanet was the only option for tethering? I would prefer free but I would like to look at all my tethering options first.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know this is a noobtastic question, but I have to ask. I was at a crappy hotel the other night and I used PDAnet to check email and what not. If I use the VZW tethering do I have to pay for it? Is it a one time fee like PDAnet or is it a monthly fee? If I use PDAnet am I going to pay out the wazoo on my next bill?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got back from the Verizon store. I was checking out the Droid... I popped open the browser and went to DI.FM.
Digitally Imported - Addictive Electronic Music
I tried all 3 public streams (MP3, Windows Media, AACPlus), and nothing. I asked the data tech guys at the counter and they said there might or will eventually probably be a app that will work with DI.FM.
So anyone checked into this? Anyone gotten DI.FM working? I'm especially interested to see if I can get the premium subscriber channels to work. The phone is pretty damn sweet and right now the only thing holding me back is the fact I can't stream my favorite internet radio station.
According to the specs of the Droid, it supports AACPlus streams. This is big! Currently it's next to impossible to stream AACplus encrypted streams on windows mobile.
Can someone explain to me the concept behind using bluetooth. my project in my studies is to make an android app using bluetooth, SQLLIGHT and google app, the app itself is a very easy one but i just dont get the tools i need to use :
How does the bluetooth works?
Is there a simple example ?
The concept behind android GUI (i allready nade one but i think i am not fully understood his power)?
I am using v 2.1
I have two apps, almost identical, that make heavy use of Maps. I have both of them signed with the same key. One of them works, but the other one doesn't, it just shows a grid, but works with the debug key. I tried everything already, i mean i searched for substancial differences, but the thing is: a) if it's a code problem, it should NEVER run (and it does work with debug key) b) if it's a key problem, it should work (or not to) in both apps (and works great with one of them). I've already asked in Stack Exchange and they couldn't help me. Do you have any idea?
