HTC EVO 4G :: Tired Of Pushing On / Off Button
Jun 18, 2010
I like to put my EVO to sleep after using it and before I put it back in my jacket pocket or belt case. But I'm really getting tired of having to push the on/off button to do it. Plus I'm concerned that I'll eventually shorten the life on the button with as many times as I push it. Having said that, are there any apps/widgets to put the phone to sleep instead of using the button. I've searched the market and appbrain and found nothing. I've done a general google search and found nothing. Of course I could have been searching using the wrong terms so please don't flame me if there's something obvious.

Just found out I hear annoying noise when I push power button time to time. Is it because of cheap plastic or my SF is the only one have weird power button? I heard some people say volume rocker is wiggly, but my power button makes annoying noise.. like scratching blackboard with fingernail?

I would like to pausing or putting the application on background when pressing the back button, I don't want the application to go through the destroy state. Things are when I override onKeyDown and when I force to pause or stop the application by using onPause, I have some issuees with the wakelock and application crash, but when I press home button I go through onPause method and I have no exception, it's weird!

I think more people will see this in the Droid forum than in the software forum, plus, it's a major complaint among Droid users that they have to press that unlock button, and THEN still slide to unlock. Here's the app (myLock for Android):myLock for android It's pretty awesome. Uncheck run in foreground mode if you don't want the icon in the notification bar.It also forgoes the slider if you slide open your keyboard. Notice that if your keyboard is a bit loose, this could cause it to unlock in your pocket.

About one-fourth of comments for my widget on the market are "Doesn't launch" with 1-star rating. Are you guys having the same problem? I've already included the instructions at the top of app's description but doesn't help. Here are the solutions I'm thinking about but don't know how to implement them yet.
1. Having a default activity showing a help page. But this would clutter the app tray with another useless app icon. Can I hide the app icon from launcher after first launch?
2. Launch widget picker activity from the market open button. But this doesn't tell users how to add widgets later on. Is it possible to set AndroidManifest.xml to open widget picker as default activity?

I'm really struggling between the EVO and the iphone 4.My HTC Touch Pro looked shiny when I bought it a year and a half ago, and now it feels obsolete. I can barely use it for more that texting/phone, far less than the device promised. In the time I've had it, there was one update which mostly just fixed bugs. And in my other pocket I have a first generation ipod touch that feels superior in every way, except the phone part.I have no confidence in HTC's ability to support it's products and improve them over time, Apple does do this, my ipod touch is better than when I bought it four years ago. But the EVO runs android and it looks like that is something that is going to develop over time. Will the device be able to rely on android in that way? I'm already seeing people suggest that HTC will lag behind android updates because they'll fail to update their android skins in a timely manner. Can the EVO run on just android if that UI experience turns out to be better than what HTC can offer?
My other primary concern is itunes syncing. I have dozens of 'smart playlists' that I've pretty carefully designed to change and improve with my listening habits, and all of my podcasts sync through itunes. Also, I've been using 'itunes U' to listen to full courses and my itunes is set up so that every time I sync my finished lectures are replaced with the next in the series.... So, I'm sure many of you have seen the EVO "tutorial" showing you how to load music onto the device, literally just dumping files onto the devices hard drive, that is effing laughable. Is there a reasonable way to sync and listen to music on the EVO?

So My evo has been running pretty damn good. Then this evening I realized that I have not received any e-mails pushed to my gmail app on my phone. So I just figured nobody e-mailed me today, which is weird. So I just went to my gmail account on my laptop and I have 14 unread e-mails that were sent to my gmail account today. So I went to my gmail app on my phone and clicked refresh and the e-mails did not show up on my phone. Its like its not even recognizing my gmail. Any help. I powered down and turned it back up and still nothing. Usually powering down then back up helps little issues like this. what gives.

Does anyone else have an issue when the links stop working on the browser? They'll highlight like it's clicked on, but goes no where, not even a loading bar. Usually, killing the app or restarting the phone works, just annoying sometimes. Opening it into another window sometimes works, unless it thinks you're trying to copy/paste the text.

So Ive been tweaking my phone to where I want it, outside of rooting. Anyways, I do what some old friends from nitro racing called "force charging". Basically been talked about here several threads, charging to full, unplugging it (I then use it briefly, web, txt, anything) then plug the charger back in, 2-3 times or untill its still green when I plug it back in. As of the moment, im at almost 72 hours with 30% battery left. Granted its only under what most of you would consider light/moderate use Im pretty happy. I make 4-5 outgoing calls a day, and get maybe 4-5 incoming. 10-20+ txts a day, my daughter usually surfs for an hour in incriments streaming You Tube videos. And some other lil stuff, all things considered I think its doing well. As I said, im not rooted, manually using ATK after I play games/surf etc, screen brightness 35%, 4g/wifi all that turned off unless needed, no live wallpaper. Also did the CDMA deal and whatnot, thats it though! Nothing special, pics to come. Seeing how far I can stretch it over 70 hours!

I've noticed that when I'm not on wifi, my gmail is no longer pushing to my phone, but will delivery whenever I wake the phone up. I never had this problem before with gmail even with "Always On Mobile Data" disabled, but now it seems like the as soon as the 3G radio goes to sleep, I don't get anything until it wakes back up. Any one else having this problem with the latest version of the gmail.app?

I'm trying to root my EVO, it's never been rooted before, but I'm stuck at the screen that says "Pushing recovery image." and it's been about 6 minutes now. During the rooting process, I wasn't allowed to install the HBoot drivers on my computer (I'm running windows 7, 32 bit) but I figured that maybe they were already installed on my computer because I have the android SDK installed..

Been running Fresh 2.1.1 for about a week now and it seems pretty good. But with 2.1.2 just out I'm planning on flashing that as soon as possible. I've been running the stock radio and RA and wanted to get some feedback on weather it would be beneficial to update both the radio and RA to the newest versions available before I flash to 2.1.2. My awake time is at about 10% and cell standby is using 48% of my battery while phone idle is using 44%. Does this sound normal? If not would flashing a new radio and RA help resolve these issues?

Has anyone else experienced this since MR2? I would receive alerts to new gmails instantly before MR2, and now I'm lucky if I even get them at all without going into the app and hitting refresh. I checked all my settings and it does appear to be set to automatically sync.

I am trying to push up the views in my activity whenever a soft keyboard comes up. I have been partially successful in this, except that certain views remain hidden behind the soft keyboard.
My XML looks like the below. I am specifying the last RelativeLayout RL3 containing buttons with the attribute: android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" so that they stay above the soft keyboard when it comes up. However. the scrollview SV1 which is above the last RelativeLayout RL3 is not scrolling up completely and so a part of the scroll view remains hidden behind the soft keyboard. I have tried to set paddingBottom=70px but that still does not make the scroll view go up.

Title says it all. I do not pay the extra corporate email fee but I have never had problems with emails pushing to my phone. I've checked all the settings, rebooted the phone, pulled the battery.
Before going through the circus of asking someone in IT at my office if there is a problem I figured I would ask for suggestions here.
Settings are:
Download Frequency: As they arrive
Include File Attachment: Never
Mail Size Limit: Entire email
Not the default Account

As long as I have the requisite SDK files and a terminal on an Android device, or if I'm doing this programmatically in an app I'd develop, can I use adb to push a file from one device to another that's connected via USB? The devices will be a Nexus 4 and probably a Nexus 7. The N7 would be the sender, fwiw. I'm hoping that it's not required that the device executing the adb push commands be a computer as opposed to a mobile device.
I'm assuming that I can find a cable that's micro USB (if that's what it's called) at both ends to connect the two devices.
Is it possible to do the same thing via a Bluetooth connection? Or can adb only recognize a device connected via USB?

For some reason my Twitter app isn't pushing notifications to my device. I have it set to sync data every 5 minutes and it still isn't pushing any notifications even after 5 minutes. I'm not really sure if the sync setting has anything to do with notifications though.

I have purchased an MK802 which I intent to use as a mediacenter. I have my 1TB hdd hooked up to it now, but I am having problems find finding an App that allows me to:
Browse the hdd without setting up a mediaserver, and then push a selected file via dlna/upnp
To my Samsung tv. I do this all the time from my windows 7 pc (right click, play to, select source).
I am having problems with just finding a DLNA app that supports USB.
