I want to add a contact and have it sync with google. Only problem is when I create a contact I go into 'people' - 'add contact' and then select the drop down box my only option is 'phone'. am I missing something here? I have google sync turned on.

After installing Facebook 1.3 and 1.3.1 on my Eris with 2.1 my Google Contacts are stuck in a sync loop and draining my battery. It tries to sync, gets an error about contact sync not being available, tries to sync, gets error, etc over and over. Since I'm not able to uninstall Facebook, only uninstall upgrades, going back to an older version causes the non-stop syncing to stop. WOO HOO! Has anyone else experienced this? I want the new Facebook 1.3.1, but the I can't live without contact sync.
View 12 Replies View RelatedHere me out for a minute. I think it's great that I can have my contacts all safe and backed up to my gmail account. However, when I use my gmail e-mail, and I send an e-mail...it automatically adds them to my contacts.
Am I weird for wanting my phone JUST to have peoples numbers in my contacts? I don't need people's phone numbers who live in England, because I'll just e-mail them if i need to ask them anything. Maybe I'm just old school and so used to my non-smart phone.
Anyway, I want to put my contacts onto my SD card and have People read from that. Is that possible to do?
The thing I'm scared of doing is that IF i unclick sync google contacts, all the contacts on my phone disappear. Did this one before by accident.
Is there a way to sync only one specific Google contact group rather than getting everyone that happens to have a phone number from the generic "All Contacts" section? If I go into the standalone Contacts app the only contacts I see on the "Contacts: Google" list are the ones I want but when I go into the contacts in the phone app everyone and their grandparents are listed.

Some contacts from Gmail successfully imported to the phone
Many still have not, including anyone who was a "favorite"
Some of the email address of my "favorites" have transferred over, but none of their phone numbers have
I let the sync go over night and the problem persisted
If i check it in setting, the sync will periodically say "there's a problem with the sync, check back shortly" but continue to attempt to sync
My battery drained today because the phone continued to try and sync unsuccessfully
Any tips on how to solve this problem?
After updating to 2.1v2 from 1.5 I cant find where you control which groups gets synced. When I go to People->Groups->Menu the option for 'Sync Groups' is missing. I have so many contacts in GMail, id prefer to only sync certain groups.

The other day it drained my battery while at work. I have had to stop it manually or it will just keep trying to sync. When I try to manually sync it through Setting it still says it's 'currently experiencing problems'.

I mean if your turn off one and leave the other on, what effect would that have? If they are both off, do the google apps only sync when you open them? Do you have to manually sync the google apps if they are both off? If I was to leave auto sync on, and background data off, would everything still sync in some way? Just looking for some clarification on those 2 options.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried a search but came up empty on this one. Right now I have 2 Google accounts, the first one will sync contacts, mail and calendar no problem. However I added my second Google account and there are only options for syncing mail and contacts, there is no checkbox to sync the calendar like my other account. Do I need to delete the first account? I'd prefer to have everything sync from account #2 if that is my only choice. Also, if I do delete the first account my phone says I need to reset the OS to factory standards because the calendar is linked to some of my apps, any way around that? Running 2.1 OTA if that matters.

I'm using goog calendar sync and it doesnt seem to wan to sync ALL apts. It seemed to work fine at first but now I can try to force a sync and there are a few entries on my outlook for next week that it just wont sync. But if I put a new dummy entry in to test it seems to sync.It's sporadic.Any suggestions? This is the only solution I can use as HTC sync does not work for me.Plus I like the fact that it's 2 way and it happens automatically..no direct connection required.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I have a new event come up I add it to my phone so I dont forget it, with my Blackberry when I was at an appointment I would add notes and sync it, my office could see my notes in my Google calender and act accordingly. I noticed yesterday the 2 appointments I have this week are NOT showing up in my Google calender on the web. I have the sync set up auto, calender and gmail boxes checked in settings, what am I missing. This is causing me scheduling conflicts and I cant leave it like this.

I add an event on my work PC and -WHAMMO- it appears on my gCal and on my Eris in moments (If I do a force sync, otherwise it takes 1hr). The issue is, when I receive an invite to a meeting. Such that there is an "Accept / Decline / Tentative" option that we who use MS Office are probably familiar with. If I accept that meeting it will appear on my work computer, but will not sync in any way, shape or form w/ gCal, or my phone. I have to enter all these by hand on my work computer and THEN then they will show up. The reason I ask is: a) I'd like to not have to enter the meetings I'm INVITED to manually.....

If I go to people I am the only one there. If I search or dial they are there but if I just look at people it does not show them. I reset contact storage but that did not help. I added a contact on my phone to the google contacts and the count went to 466 and the one I added shows up on the phone.

1. How do I turn off Google calendar, contacts, and tasks syncing?
2. Do I need to turn off Google syncing?
3. Is Exchange data stored and managed separately on the phone from Google's calendar, contracts, and tasks but displayed together in the HTC applications?

I am just putting it out there because I have never used any type of sync to get contacts from one phone to another.I simply let my my providers use their CellBrite machine to move from my old device to the new one. I don't use outlook although I might start. Point is I was truly starting at ground zero and the following post was to the point and detailed enough not to assume you had done this.It will be common knowledge for a lot, but for the rest of us very helpful. Have a great day fellow Droidians.Sync from Blackberry to CSV to GMail / G1 without Outlook.Here's a procedure to export contacts from a Blackberry and import into the G1 / Android using a CSV file and GMail Import, without using Outlook or Google Sync (I don't use Outlook, and had read about limitations/problems with Google Sync for Blackberry). This initially works best when you have a GMail account with maybe some but not all of the same contacts as are in your Blackberry, and with your G1 phone contacts relatively empty (or cleared) to avoid duplicating contacts.
Basically, you create a CSV file using Blackberry Manager (free download from T-mobile, etc.,), edit it using Excel or other spreadsheet program to change the heading names, import the resulting CSV file into the Gmail, then sync it directly into the G1. There are a few tricks, but the result is your contacts will be displayed exactly as you want them.The Export to CSV from Blackberry Manager (BBM) and the import of CSVs into GMail were not intuitive (at least not to me ;-), nor well documented anywhere I found. Here is how I did it using a T-Mobile Blackberry Pearl 8120, BBM vers 4.6 for Win XP, GMail as of 17-Nov-09, and T-Mobile G1 (Android 1.6)
So, like many of you, my phone would occasionally get hot, and the battery would just zoom down to nothing. Usually this was just intermittent, and a restart would cure it.On June 10, it was happening, and persisted despite restarts, battery pulls, etc. I finally found that the problem was google trying to sync contacts. It was having some problem and cycling forever. When I unchecked the google contacts sync in the accounts preference panel, problem stopped. My battery life has never been better. Routinely getting 18-20 hrs or more.BUT I want to sync my google contacts! Every time I trial re-checking that box, it cycles and cycles, every few seconds giving a little error at the bottome of the screen (in prefs) "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".I have 700-something contacts (Only 250 real "My Contacts" but another 500 or so auto-created contacts from gmail use.Presumably one of those entries has some corruption, but I can't figure out which, and I don't want to potentially lose all the contacts.I have seen that for some people this was fixed by factory reset and resync, but then the problem came back a few weeks later.
I was wondering if anyone knows a way to sync my Google Chrome bookmarks with my Android Eris browser? Or can you even do this?
