I am thinking of getting the Desire this weekend. If I Sync my contacts and Calendar with Google - does that mean it connects to the internet everytime to get the calendar and contacts? Or does it store a local copy then sync every so often?

I'm planning on getting the Sprint Hero. I have a hosted Exchange account that I use to manage my emails, calendar, contacts, and tasks. I'm planning on continuing using my Exchange account. I do not want to use Google for Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks syncing.
I have the following questions.
1. How do I turn off Google calendar, contacts, and tasks syncing?
2. Do I need to turn off Google syncing?
3. Is Exchange data stored and managed separately on the phone from Google's calendar, contracts, and tasks but displayed together in the HTC applications?
4. Will the HTC implantation of Exchange ActiveSync allow me to sync tasks?
HTC O2 Desire with 2.2 upgrade.All seems to be ok except for a Calendar problem.I tried to use HTC Synch, want to move apps to sd card, and managed to add extra anniversaries to my calendars i.e Outlook, Google and Desire.Outlook and Google had duplicate anniversaries and Desire has triplicate.Before I reconnect my Desire to my pc via HTC sync I need to resolve the triplication problem i.e. get my Desire to sync with Google calendar via my gmail acccount.I edited the online Google calendar and left that to synch with desktop Outlook via its normal sych routine. Outlook did ask one question; should it delete 169 items. I answered yes and Outlook updated. During this time I switched off synch on my Desire.I then tried to sych Desire to Google via my home wifi but without success. It seems that Desire synch will not stay up. The synch symbol shows for a few seconds then goes either using manual or autosynch; wifi is there all the time and I have a connection to my ISP i.e I can surf all I want using the wifi router connected to my desktop. Desire wifi signal shown as full strength.
I notice that if I manually synch my Desire the sync symbol against "Sync Calendar" stays on for some 15 seconds (but is not rotating after the symbol disappears from the top of the screen) whereas for Gmail and contacts the symbols quickly go out suggesting that more activity is taking place in calendar? Also the sync symbol at the top of the screen matches for contacts and Gmail but goes out after a few seconds for Calendar i.e does not stay on for 15 seconds.
Been trying to sync my calendar but the message "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" shows up. Anyone else having this problem or is it just me
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy first posting as I am new to Android and the Desire. Must say everything great so far and synchronised with my PC Outlook 2002 first go. Pity it won't do notes as my Apple Ipod touch did.I now use my Desire as the master diary entry and control as set up in the options. As my Outlook 2002 is now aged I thought I might transfer to Google calendars where I have an account. But when I open the Tools in Synchronisation I only have the Outlook option.Can anyone advise how I sync with Google Calendars as then in effect I am using the Desire as the transfer medium from Outlook to Google without the hazards of import/export
View 5 Replies View RelatedSyncing with google calendar. I have a Macbook with iCal configured to match my Google calendar account. The two sync together with no problem. I tried setting up my HTC Desire to sync with my Google account which should give me three way sync but I get the following problem:
I open Calendar on my phone, I try to add an event, a message appears saying: YOU HAVE NO CALENDARS. Ont the settings side, if I hit MENU then MORE and I choose CALENDARS I can't see my Google account. If I hit SETTINGS there is nothing to add my Google account. If I go to the ACCOUNTS & SYNC settings, I see my Google account, but when I hit my account, the data synchronization theme only shows SYNC CONTACTS and SYNC GMAIL, there is no SYNC GOOLGLE CALENDAR (is this normal).
I had Syncmate installed on my macbook and had it configured on my Desire, but it didn't sync the calendar either so I deleted it from my accounts. Could this be causing my problem or does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I have now deleted all my phone contacts and am managing everything in google.So when I click on people, only one contact comes up.myself. Yet for some reason this does not link with google,so it's not syncing my picture or details.Anybody know how I can do this? You cannot delete the main contact.though I can add myself as a new phone contact(but then I would have two.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI did a search but cant seem to find an answer. I finally got my work email set up through active sync. Is there a way to get the calendar events to show up on my google calendar? I use calendar pro which I love. I don't know if there is a work around or I am just not knowledgable enough to understand it. A for instance would be that my work email gives me an event or invite...it will show up on the phones calendar but not on my google calendar/events. (my google notification each morning may say "no events scheduled for the day" but phone calendar/calendar pro will show it)

Have successfully imported my old calendar to Google Calendar which initially synced with the calendar on my captivate. However, when I add a new event to my phone calendar, it does not automatically show up on the Google calendar. the Samsung rep told me I have to edit each new even to mark it as a "Google Calendar". Is there any way to make this the default option on the Captivate phone? I am hoping to have automatic syncronization b/t the phone and the Google calendar without having to force it to do so each time.

No problem with appointments / events created on desktop syncing down to phone. Problem Identification: Default calendar when creating appointment / event on phone was calendar called "Phone". There is no calendar on desktop called "Phone". Solution: Pick different calendar when creating an appointment / event on your phone.

I would REALLY like to have my Outlook calendar (at minimum) pushed/synchronized to my phone. Is there an app or a way to configure this to work? Right now I am using the Outlook Web Mobile app for my email and I can view my calendar there but I would like schedule/calendar all in one place.

And I configure the username and pwd from DevTools->Google Service Login successfully. Now I can start the Calendar app successfully, with the month view/week view/etc. But I don't know how to sync the calendars or events with Google Calendar service. From the source code, I assume there should happen sync operation. But it didn't happened. And I know another trigger to sync is Menu->More->My Calendars, but after selected, the activity will crash. A previous thread states you have to choose "google calendar" when generating an event on the calendar on the phone, however, when I try to edit the event, under "Calendar" the setting is "My calendar" but I can't change the setting (tapping on it does nothing)

My old calendar had individual pop ups for each event, the pop up allowed you to open/snooze/ or dismiss each item individually. Also my old calendar had no trouble syncing my gmail and facebook calendars. Android seems to have trouble doing this seemingly simple task. Is there an app or special calendar that can do this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got myself a HTC Droid Eris (yes I know it is an older model, but it was all I could afford right now). I am desperately searching for a way to sync my Outlook calendar and contacts (notes and tasks would be nice, but lets not push it) from my desktop to my Eris.
I am very uncomfortable using the google platform to host all of my personal information because it resides on the web; unless I am mistaken about this fact.
I would love a Palm Desktop-esque app or program. At least it was a self contained feature that remained on my personal desktop and was not floating around in cyberspace. Any ideas?

My hero can't sync Gmail account.

I've seen quite a few people wondering how to get the birthday's from their contacts (either google, facebook or both) into their calendars. Here is how to do it.
First, Facebook limits the way you can view their data (phone numbers, birthday's, etc.). They will allow you to view it, but not to scrape the data to transfer to another app (which is why there is no way to sync your google and facebook addressbooks). I remember a while back somebody wrote a facebook app that would sync with Plaxo and facebook shut down the users account within a day of him starting to use the program. Because of this limitation, you will need to add 2 calendars to get all your birthdays and if you have a birthday in both facebook and google, that birthday will appear twice. That being said, here is what you can do.
To add Birthdays from Google contacts to your Google Calendar.
1. Using a computer go to calendar.google.com
2. Top Right corner, click on settings/calendar settings.
3. Under Calendar settings click Calendars
4. By Other Calendars, click Browse Interesting Calendars
5. Under Interesting Calendars, select More
6. Subscribe to the Contacts' Birthdays and Events calendar.
7. Return to Calendar, your Contacts' Birthdays should now be appearing.
8. On your phone open the calendar app and go to menu/more/refresh
9. Go to menu/more/calendars and make sure the new CBE calendar is checked.
10. Back to Calendar. The birthdays should now be showing.
11. If they do not appear, try menu/refresh.
12. If they still do not appear go to menu/more/calendars/remove and remove the CBE calendar then menu/more/calendars/add and readd the CBE calendar (this is what I had to do).
*Google does not currently have a way to add reminders to this calendar. You can add a reminder to any individual birthday, one at a time, from your phone, but the reminders will not sync back to the web version of Gcal and will only work on the phone.
To add Birthdays from Facebook to your Google Calendar
1. Go to fbCal.com - Facebook Calendar Generator, and click Get your calendars now
2. In facebook click Allow/Allow/Allow
3. Under "Subscribe to Friends Birthdays" click the Google Calendar icon
4. In Google Calendar, Select Yes add this Calendar
5. In Google Calendar go to Settings/Calendars, double click the calendar with the really long complicated name, and rename to fbCal or something else you will remember, Save. Facebook birthdays should now be showing in Gcal.
6. In your phone calendar, menu/more/refresh
7. Menu/more/calendars/ and put a checkmark next to the fbCal calendar.
8. Menu/more/refresh
9. Everything should be working now.
*If you go back to the fbCal page in facebook, you can follow the same process to create a calendar for Facebook events. You CAN create regular Google notifications for both facebook calendars.
I am having problems syncing my hero calender with google calender! I have seen a post on here where someone has deleted account details from phone - as I believe i have 2 accounts on my phone. Does anyone know how to delete acc data ( i think it clears all apps as well) When i first got my hero i already had a gmail acc but the phone made me set up a new one - I think this is part of the problem, thats why i want to delete all accs and start again

I have a gmail account setup in K9 mail and am using the mail app to connect to and sync with my companies Exchange server. I have mail, contacts, and calendars setup to sync for all accounts. On my Android calendar app I see both the gmail and exchange calendar items, and in google contacts I see both gmail and exchange contacts. But the calendar events are not syncing with google calendar. I've tried deleting and recreating the exchange account with no luck. Can someone tell me if there's a trick to doing this?
