HTC Droid Eris :: Choosing Gmail Contact Groups To Sync In 2.1v2
Apr 7, 2010After updating to 2.1v2 from 1.5 I cant find where you control which groups gets synced. When I go to People->Groups->Menu the option for 'Sync Groups' is missing. I have so many contacts in GMail, id prefer to only sync certain groups.

Feb 22, 2010I've had my Eris since the week it came out and it has the People > Groups > Sync Groups option, however a friend of mine just got an Eris and his phone does not have this option and is syncing ALL of his gmail contacts. His groups screen only has the option to add or delete groups.The only difference I can think is that I did not have Verizon transfer my contacts from my blackberry to my Eris, he did.

Feb 11, 2010I want to add a contact and have it sync with google. Only problem is when I create a contact I go into 'people' - 'add contact' and then select the drop down box my only option is 'phone'. am I missing something here? I have google sync turned on.

May 14, 2010Just updated the Eris to v2.1. I'm having trouble syncing my Contacts. Here are the highlights
Some contacts from Gmail successfully imported to the phone
Many still have not, including anyone who was a "favorite"
Some of the email address of my "favorites" have transferred over, but none of their phone numbers have
I let the sync go over night and the problem persisted
If i check it in setting, the sync will periodically say "there's a problem with the sync, check back shortly" but continue to attempt to sync
My battery drained today because the phone continued to try and sync unsuccessfully
Any tips on how to solve this problem?
Motorola Droid X :: Contact Display Groups
Oct 21, 2010Whenever I click "contacts", it shows "All Groups", not "Phone Contacts". After I switch the display group to "Phone Contacts", it'll stay that way for an hour or so, but later, it'll switch right back to "All contacts". (I have "facebook" and "twitter" groups in contacts as well). Is anyone else having this problem?

Aug 6, 2010After installing Facebook 1.3 and 1.3.1 on my Eris with 2.1 my Google Contacts are stuck in a sync loop and draining my battery. It tries to sync, gets an error about contact sync not being available, tries to sync, gets error, etc over and over. Since I'm not able to uninstall Facebook, only uninstall upgrades, going back to an older version causes the non-stop syncing to stop. WOO HOO! Has anyone else experienced this? I want the new Facebook 1.3.1, but the I can't live without contact sync.

Dec 4, 2009Here me out for a minute. I think it's great that I can have my contacts all safe and backed up to my gmail account. However, when I use my gmail e-mail, and I send an e-mail...it automatically adds them to my contacts.
Am I weird for wanting my phone JUST to have peoples numbers in my contacts? I don't need people's phone numbers who live in England, because I'll just e-mail them if i need to ask them anything. Maybe I'm just old school and so used to my non-smart phone.
Anyway, I want to put my contacts onto my SD card and have People read from that. Is that possible to do?
The thing I'm scared of doing is that IF i unclick sync google contacts, all the contacts on my phone disappear. Did this one before by accident.

From within 'contacts' i hit the 'display options' then selecting the email account I see the drop down for system contact groups-friends, family, coworkers. I am wondering if there is any way to create additional contact types or groups? As in I have a specific group of contacts from one website I want to add to a group--can you create a contact type or contact group?? I can't find the option when adding a new contact or when within the display options as mentioned before.

Oct 22, 2010I just flashed xtrROm...and have the following issues:
1. Some random contacts from my gmail account do NOT synch to the phone. No rhyme or reason - just a handfull of contacts are NOT on the phone. I can't make a connection to "Groups", with/without an e-mail or phone#, etc. It just seems completely random.
2. Battery life is horriible. I'm talking about draining to nothing in a few hours (This is a separate issue I will look into). Regarding gmail contacts, it seems that it is constantly doing a Contact Sync - and DOES NOT STOP.

I can't figure out how to make a folder on a home page from one of my groups. Aug 20, 2010I am using the Samsung Galaxy S. I have sync working and all my Goggle contacts are listed in my phone. But they all appear in one group, called Google. I have my Google contacts in groups, and had hoped that the sync would bring down the group hierarchy. But it did not. However my phone is aware of the Goggle groups, because if I try to create a group in the phone with the same name as a Goggle group, my phone raises an error saying that the group exists. But I have no visibility to my Goggle groups on the phone. I only see a "Google" group. Is it possible to see my Google groups in the phone? If so, how?

Sep 10, 2010I finally did a factory reset after installing the froyo update and now have my phone set up just about how it was before. Problem is,I have 180+ Google contacts sorted into 11 different groups and I want to assign a specific ringtone for each group. I did this some time ago before the upgrade for each individual contact but I just don't want to do it again. Yeah I'm lazy but what can I say I thought restoring my contacts would have kept the ringtones synced but it did not.I haven't found an app that will do it (a free app anyway).

Samsung Vibrant :: Syncing Gmail Contact Groups
Aug 21, 2010I have all of my contacts saved to the phone, deleted all contacts saved on SIM. I now saved everything to google contacts, and even after saving some in various groups, I cannot get the groups to sync over to the vibrant. All of the contacts synced perfectly, but not the groups. I even tried making new groups using different names than the generic google group names. If I display contacts from both the phones memory and google contacts, then it will show me the groups I've selected.

Those groups get synced to my android contacts and I can see them in the groups tab. However, neither gmail nor any sms app that I have tried actually use these contact groups for anything.
Am I missing some setting for this to work or is this not implemented in android?
Android :: Impossible To Test Contact Groups In 2.0 Without A Physical Phone?
Feb 23, 2010My app (first written for Android 1.6) reads groups and contacts but I have so far only been able to write code for 2.0 that compiles but I have never executed. Since the Contacts API and particularly the way groups work has changed substantially in ways that I haven't quite been able to find out I need to try it on a phone to see how it now works.So is there any way at all I can test contact groups in the emulator? I have looked all over for help on this and all I have been able to glean is that I cannot get groups into the emulator unless I create them in a Google (or other, Exchange?) account then sync with it. However I cannot seem to sync/open an account from my emulator - and this I have read may be impossible as you can only do it from a phone with a valid IMEI.
