HTC Droid Eris : What Does Google Background Data Sync Option Do

Feb 24, 2010

Is this something I should turn off to preserve battery or should I just leave it alone?

HTC Droid Eris : What does google background data sync option do

HTC Droid Eris :: Data Sync With Google

Dec 29, 2009

My question is regarding the data sync option, specifically syncing with Google. What exactly (specifically) do background data and auto sync do? I mean if your turn off one and leave the other on, what effect would that have? If they are both off, do the google apps only sync when you open them? Do you have to manually sync the google apps if they are both off? If I was to leave auto sync on, and background data off, would everything still sync in some way? Just looking for some clarification on those 2 options.

Samsung I7500 :: Sync Google Apps Without Background Data

Dec 10, 2009

I'm wondering if anyone's experienced this. I'm using II5 firmware with Galaxo 1.1 None of my google apps seems to ever sync if I turn off background data. It'd be cool if there was a way to let it use background data only when the phone is unlocked, but whatever it's alright. So, fr gmail you can manually go in and chose to "Refresh", but for Calendar and Contacts there is no way to do this within the app.. Also, it never seems to sync even when you use it for a while.Has anyone found a way to sync calendar or contacts without turning on background data?

HTC Droid Eris :: No Sync Groups Option

Feb 22, 2010

I've had my Eris since the week it came out and it has the People > Groups > Sync Groups option, however a friend of mine just got an Eris and his phone does not have this option and is syncing ALL of his gmail contacts. His groups screen only has the option to add or delete groups. The only difference I can think is that I did not have Verizon transfer my contacts from my blackberry to my Eris, he did.

I only did a Nandroid restore recently, but I can't think of anything I did to make it re-appear if it was already missing. Help!

General :: Auto Restrict Background Data And Disable Auto-sync When Mobile Data Enabled

Aug 24, 2013

I'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.

I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.

This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.

Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?

Android :: App / Widget To Disable Background Data? (Not Same As Auto Sync)

May 7, 2010

I have a Motorola Milestone running Android 2.1.Is there a widget which turns "background data" ("Settings -> account & sync -> background data") on/off? I know there are several widgets which turn auto sync on off (e.g. the power control widget) and disable data connections altogether (apndroid, quick settings, etc), but that's not what I need. I searched the market, google and this forum but couldn't find anything. The only workaround I found was to create a shortcut to "account & sync" using "any cut". Not a widget, but close enough. Is there a widget, or a better way to do this?

Android :: Enable/Disable Auto Sync And Background Data

Apr 20, 2009

I want to develop an application that disable the Background Data (new feature in Android 1.5) and Auto Sync and then enable GPRS/EDGE connection and vice versa.

I figured out how to enable/disable GPRS/EDGE by changing the APN settings. (weird solution. However; Android developers couldn't think a user may want to disable GPRS/EDGE) But, I couldn't find a way to enable/disable Auto Sync and Background data.

I investigated the Android code and as I understood, the Sync operation is an intend. So, I wanted to reach with putExtra to the intend and trigger the enabling/disabling. But; I couldn't find the correct keyword.

I've set my Friendstream to update every hour, and this was working fine for weeks. Recently, although it's still refreshing the sync time icon at the bottom every hour, it's not actually updating the widget with the new information. It takes a manual sync for it to refresh. Auto-sync is on, background data is enabled.

HTC Droid Eris : Can't Sync Second Google Calendar

Jul 8, 2010

I tried a search but came up empty on this one. Right now I have 2 Google accounts, the first one will sync contacts, mail and calendar no problem. However I added my second Google account and there are only options for syncing mail and contacts, there is no checkbox to sync the calendar like my other account. Do I need to delete the first account? I'd prefer to have everything sync from account #2 if that is my only choice. Also, if I do delete the first account my phone says I need to reset the OS to factory standards because the calendar is linked to some of my apps, any way around that? Running 2.1 OTA if that matters.

HTC Droid Eris :: Mobile Network ON - Can't See That Have Any Network Traffic Or Any Apps Running In Background That Are Syncing Data At All

May 29, 2010

My eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...

If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..

I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.

Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...

HTC Droid Eris :: Google Calendar And Sync / Office 2003

Dec 9, 2009

My issue is with Google Sync and Office 2003. It works perfectly for 99.9% of what I expect it to do. I add an event on my work PC and -WHAMMO- it appears on my gCal and on my Eris in moments (If I do a force sync, otherwise it takes 1hr). The issue is, when I receive an invite to a meeting. Such that there is an "Accept / Decline / Tentative" option that we who use MS Office are probably familiar with. If I accept that meeting it will appear on my work computer, but will not sync in any way, shape or form w/ gCal, or my phone. I have to enter all these by hand on my work computer and THEN then they will show up. The reason I ask is: a) I'd like to not have to enter the meetings I'm INVITED to manually.....
