HTC Droid Eris :: How To Sync Google Talk For SMS
Jan 7, 2010I just recently started using google talk because I wanted something quicker than SMS. I made my girlfriend a gmail account so we could use that rather than text, but I can't seem to figure out how to sync the google talk contact to her. I added her gmail account to her contact card but on google talk she's still coming up as a separate contact.

Sep 1, 2010For the last couple of days my Eris hasn't been syncing with Google Contacts. No settings have been changed. It just keeps trying to sync. The other day it drained my battery while at work. I have had to stop it manually or it will just keep trying to sync. When I try to manually sync it through Setting it still says it's 'currently experiencing problems'.

Dec 29, 2009My question is regarding the data sync option, specifically syncing with Google. What exactly (specifically) do background data and auto sync do? I mean if your turn off one and leave the other on, what effect would that have? If they are both off, do the google apps only sync when you open them? Do you have to manually sync the google apps if they are both off? If I was to leave auto sync on, and background data off, would everything still sync in some way? Just looking for some clarification on those 2 options.

May 18, 2010Since the firmware update, my calendar won't successfully sync. In "settings>accounts and sync>google" the calendar line shows a constantly spinning sync icon. Contacts and gmail sync to the same account just fine.

Jul 8, 2010I tried a search but came up empty on this one. Right now I have 2 Google accounts, the first one will sync contacts, mail and calendar no problem. However I added my second Google account and there are only options for syncing mail and contacts, there is no checkbox to sync the calendar like my other account. Do I need to delete the first account? I'd prefer to have everything sync from account #2 if that is my only choice. Also, if I do delete the first account my phone says I need to reset the OS to factory standards because the calendar is linked to some of my apps, any way around that? Running 2.1 OTA if that matters.

Feb 11, 2010I want to add a contact and have it sync with google. Only problem is when I create a contact I go into 'people' - 'add contact' and then select the drop down box my only option is 'phone'. am I missing something here? I have google sync turned on.

My company uses Google Apps for their e-mail, calendar and phone directory. I have my personal Gmail account setup as the primary account on the phone and my corporate Google Apps account as additional account. I can see my mail, calendar and contacts just fine for both accounts. In Google Apps there is a corporate directory that I can search from while using it on my desktop. Is there a way to see the Google Apps Directory contacts on my Android phone contacts or elsewhere on the phone? If someone is not already in my own contacts, I would like to be able to lookup their phone number in the contacts on my phone from the Google Apps Directory. Is this possible? My boss has a Motorola Droid X with 2.1. Can this be done in 2.1 also?

Feb 20, 2010my phone is syncing to google calendar just fine. Im having sync issues between my outlook on my PC and the google calendar. I'm using goog calendar sync and it doesnt seem to wan to sync ALL apts. It seemed to work fine at first but now I can try to force a sync and there are a few entries on my outlook for next week that it just wont sync. But if I put a new dummy entry in to test it seems to sync.It's sporadic.Any suggestions? This is the only solution I can use as HTC sync does not work for me.Plus I like the fact that it's 2 way and it happens automatically..no direct connection required.

Jan 5, 2010when I have a new event come up I add it to my phone so I dont forget it, with my Blackberry when I was at an appointment I would add notes and sync it, my office could see my notes in my Google calender and act accordingly. I noticed yesterday the 2 appointments I have this week are NOT showing up in my Google calender on the web. I have the sync set up auto, calender and gmail boxes checked in settings, what am I missing. This is causing me scheduling conflicts and I cant leave it like this.

Dec 9, 2009My issue is with Google Sync and Office 2003. It works perfectly for 99.9% of what I expect it to do. I add an event on my work PC and -WHAMMO- it appears on my gCal and on my Eris in moments (If I do a force sync, otherwise it takes 1hr). The issue is, when I receive an invite to a meeting. Such that there is an "Accept / Decline / Tentative" option that we who use MS Office are probably familiar with. If I accept that meeting it will appear on my work computer, but will not sync in any way, shape or form w/ gCal, or my phone. I have to enter all these by hand on my work computer and THEN then they will show up. The reason I ask is: a) I'd like to not have to enter the meetings I'm INVITED to manually.....

Aug 6, 2010After installing Facebook 1.3 and 1.3.1 on my Eris with 2.1 my Google Contacts are stuck in a sync loop and draining my battery. It tries to sync, gets an error about contact sync not being available, tries to sync, gets error, etc over and over. Since I'm not able to uninstall Facebook, only uninstall upgrades, going back to an older version causes the non-stop syncing to stop. WOO HOO! Has anyone else experienced this? I want the new Facebook 1.3.1, but the I can't live without contact sync.

Jul 9, 2010So, like many of you, my phone would occasionally get hot, and the battery would just zoom down to nothing. Usually this was just intermittent, and a restart would cure it.On June 10, it was happening, and persisted despite restarts, battery pulls, etc. I finally found that the problem was google trying to sync contacts. It was having some problem and cycling forever. When I unchecked the google contacts sync in the accounts preference panel, problem stopped. My battery life has never been better. Routinely getting 18-20 hrs or more.BUT I want to sync my google contacts! Every time I trial re-checking that box, it cycles and cycles, every few seconds giving a little error at the bottome of the screen (in prefs) "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".I have 700-something contacts (Only 250 real "My Contacts" but another 500 or so auto-created contacts from gmail use.Presumably one of those entries has some corruption, but I can't figure out which, and I don't want to potentially lose all the contacts.I have seen that for some people this was fixed by factory reset and resync, but then the problem came back a few weeks later.

Dec 4, 2009Here me out for a minute. I think it's great that I can have my contacts all safe and backed up to my gmail account. However, when I use my gmail e-mail, and I send an e-mail...it automatically adds them to my contacts.
Am I weird for wanting my phone JUST to have peoples numbers in my contacts? I don't need people's phone numbers who live in England, because I'll just e-mail them if i need to ask them anything. Maybe I'm just old school and so used to my non-smart phone.
Anyway, I want to put my contacts onto my SD card and have People read from that. Is that possible to do?
The thing I'm scared of doing is that IF i unclick sync google contacts, all the contacts on my phone disappear. Did this one before by accident.

Aug 25, 2009In our company we are using Google Apps and I have a none branded Magic (delivered by 3 in Denmark) with Android 1.5 and a ROM with build number 2.16.401.5.In the phone's Calendar app I can create entries that will sync perfectly with any of my online Google Calendars but I can't create a new contact that will sync to my Gmail Contacts. On the phone there is only one Contact source (Phone) available.

So far, the only app that I have found is Gemini Calendar. I know of other syncing apps but they sync with sites like "Remember The Milk".

May 3, 2010I have now seen a related problem on two third party apps neither seem to be able to "see" contact information stored as "phone" contacts.My set-up: T-Mobile HTC Desire, using HTC Sync to sync contacts and calendar with Outlook on the desktop. Due to the limited functionality of the Google online offerings, I prefer to sync to Outlook.The handset shows all my contacts as "phone" contacts and all works well. Is anyone able to test this for me and if using either of the above apps, create a "phone" contact and see if you can set a direct dial or text using BetterCut, or if the email address appears as a look up in K-9 Mail?

May 4, 2010I'm trying to purchase an app, but everytime I enter in my Google Apps premier account info, it just takes me back to the Account Sync page. The app never gets purchased. Is there a way I can fix this issue? I have purchased numerous things using my Google Apps account and all the information is current.

We all have Android phones and I have set up my HTC Desire (Android 2.2 sense UI) to sync with my google apps account, no problem.However my boss have the Motorola Milestone, and his android version just won�t sync with his google account. Every time I try adding a google account with his mail address (name@ourdomain.dk), I just get a �no network connection� error. But I can browse internet and youtube just fine.I have searched the forums, and it seems other people can add their google apps accounts just fine, while some have problems.
