HTC Droid Eris :: 2.1 Ringer - Goes Off Full Blast
Mar 11, 2010Has anyone had a problem with the ringer in 2.1? No matter what I set the volume to, when it is in my pocket, it goes off FULL BLAST! Even if I set it to the lowest setting it is almost embarrassing loud when it goes off.

This is Matt from Droidmatic a small startup of a few guys that want to make great Android apps. May 27, 2010This is not a perfect solution but it does give a work around to the fact that, even though you can set the phone to not have the screen shut off when plugged in, you still have the problem of it dimming to lowest setting. Anyway, what I did to fix this was to download a program on the app store called keep screen. It gives you the option to make it so that the screen doesn't time out or dim for certain apps. What I did was just go in and select all apps and tell it to not dim on any of them.
Then on the front page of this app there is a button to "start/stop service" I use this button like a toggle. If my phone is plugged in I toggle that button and toggle it off when I unplug. It is not a perfect solution and requires manually doing the toggling but it's the best solution I have found to keep the screen and brightness up when my phone is plugged in. Anyway, just thought I would share in case anyone else was looking for a solution for this. Also, if anyone has found a better way of doing this i would love to hear it.

Feb 24, 2010Sometimes when i wake up my phone the brightness will be real dim it does this when i have the manual brightness set so if i put the phone to sleep and then wake it up the brightness will be ok this doesn't seem to happen when i have the auto brightness set any ideas.

Aug 25, 2010So the past month or two, my Eris has been randomly highlighting/selecting icons, shifting from the home screen all the way to the screen on the left, and moving the cursor around as I type, making it difficult to text or search.
I did some reading from other people that had the same issue and others replied saying it had to do with the trackball. I have had my phone replaced three times and all have the same issue.

HTC Eris :: Will Screen Brightness Setting Drain Battery Quicker?
Oct 18, 2010Does everyone keep their screen brightness on auto or do you set it manually. I notice when it's on auto, sometimes the screen doesn't light up all the way. Will setting it manually drain the battery quicker? I notice in my battery usage that it says display is at like 74%. Not sure if that's normal or not. I have the brightness set at about 1/4 of the way up.

Jul 13, 2010Anyone else having the problem where the screen keeps going back to full brightness? i check auto and a day later i notice it's on max again. even if i try setting it lower and leave auto off it will be on max brightness the next day. it might happen sooner but i don't notice it.

May 27, 2010I am very anal about the brightness setting. I keep the setting very low to save battery. While indoors this is almost never a problem but when I go outside I can't see the screen. This makes it very hard to change the brightness. How do other people solve this or am I the only one that has this problem? Does anyone know of a way to map a button (like home button) and change the operation of the long press?

Sep 20, 2010i will be using my phone, set it down for a minute, screen turns off then the phone magically isnt on anymore. I have to do a battery pull to get it back on. The power button will not turn it on. any help anyone can give me its reallllly annoying update. Nov 13, 2009Until now I had my screen set to auto brightness.First, +1 to those who said in other threads that the screen looks even better when you turn that off and put brightness all the way up.But my question here is why, on auto brightness, the screen sometimes increased or decreased brightness when I was using it. It happened all the time. The only thing I can rule out as the cause was time delay, because sometimes it happened as I was typing or just after, and sometimes it would happen after a delay. I think it must be connected to either orientation, or movement, or brightness sensor detecting the ambient light, or something.If I could figure out how to make it stop doing that I would go back to auto-brightness.

On my old Windows phone I was able to have the brightness adjust to full when it was plugged in. I've looked for this setting on the Droid and thus far have been unsuccessful in locating this ability.Does anyone know if this setting exists or if there is an app that would do this?

Nov 29, 2010I can't be 100% sure which one it is. But I installed Nonsensikal 13.2 about a week ago, love it, and was about to basically settle on this as my default rom until Saturday. Starting Saturday my phone has become non-responsive about 5-6 times. Meanin the lock screen won't come on, and the power button will not turn the phone on or off.I'm assuming this means that the phone is still on when this happens, because if it had just powered down randomly I'd think the power button would turn the phone back on I have to pull the battery out and power it back on to start working again. I don't have setcpu or autokiller running, but I am running juicedefender (in case any of that is helpful for anybody.)

Mar 21, 2010Hey everyone, I have a couple of simple questions regarding root. I have never rooted a phone before but I'm sure I can figure it out. I don't need to do anything fancy with my phone but Wifi tethering sounds like it would be worth taking the plunge. I have been following the bugs and fixes thread about the 2.1 leak and the only think that initially kept me from installing the leak was everyone saying that the phone would randomly go completely silent. Does this also happen with the newest root ROM? Also, just to make sure I know what exactly what WiFi tethering is, will I be able to tether my WiFi if I get rooted and set up WiFi tethering?

Dec 10, 2009I did a search and didn't find this specific problem mentioned so here it goes.
The Eris in question (isn't mine but I'm trying to help the owner out), has of course, horrible battery issues. So, first thing I wanted to do was see if there was a built-in power-manager app like on the Motorola Droid. There wasn't so I downloaded one of the many brightness toggle widgets.
The first widget, when clicked brought up a small menu to select brightness. While that menu was up the brightness would change as it should have but would immediately change back to what it was when that menu closed.
After that I looked in options, disabled auto-brightness, and installed a new widget. This one is a simple press to change brightness in increments. When I push the button the brightness changes momentarily and then resets to whatever the slider in the Settings is at. I've tried moving that slider and that setting is what it always defaults to.
Right now the only way to adjust the brightness is in the settings menu and nothing else will work even though auto-brightness is turned off. Is there any way around this? I'd really like to be able to get it so it can be easily adjusted without having to go through so many steps.
EDIT: Playing around with it further, I tapped the widget to go to 100% brightness and of course the screen dimmed back down to 0%. I then went to the settings menu and as soon as I entered the "Sound and Display" menu, the brightness jumped up to what I had set it at with the widget. After that I can hit the Home key or otherwise leave the menu and the brightness will be properly set... until the screen times out. If the screen times out and I wake it up, it's back to 0% brightness.

Jun 3, 2010So I'm using NexBeast v1.1 on my Droid and noticed in the clock app there is a brightness button that dims the screen even further (similar to the bedside app I'm guessing). Unfortunately the screen dimness only lasts while in that app. I was wondering: is there a way to set the overall phone brightness itself that low or keep the screen that dim outside of the app? The lowest brightness in the Droid settings is still a bit too bright for me.

Mar 1, 2010just got a Droid Eris a few weeks ago. All of a sudden, on a somewhat regular basis (4-5x in last week), the phone will just shut off and the only way to turn it back on is to remove the battery. This occurs even when the battery is not even close to empty (today, for example, an hour after coming off the charger all night).
This is quite a troublesome issue, and before I decide what to do regarding keeping it, exchanging it for a new one, or returning it and holding out for the N1 or Incredible, I'd like to see if anyone has input regarding this issue.

Nov 20, 2009Seeing as how the screen seems to have the largest draw on battery life, I've been running the screen brightness at "0", with the native tools. I installed an app called Quick Settings, which decreases brightness by another 10-20%. May not work for some brighter situations, but if you want to have the screen "always on" or know you'll be going hard w/ Facebook, every little bit helps.

Jan 18, 2010I guess I will give the background. I had over 100 pictures stored on my sd card, and i last looked at them yesterday. Today I opened my File manager, and it had expired, so I dl'ed Astro. When I went into Astro and clicked on my DCIM there was nothing inside which I thought was weird. So I went to my Albums and sure enough, It cant find any photos or videos. I took a camera shot, and it saved it to the sd card and I was able to look at it. I unmounted and removed the sd card (also rebooted phone) hoping it might jump start the card or something. When I put the card back in the phone, it had erased the one picture I just took and saved. I was wondering if anyone else had this happen to them? Is a bad sd card most likely the case?
