HTC Desire :: Type Of ROM
Sep 1, 2010
So a few days ago I got a HTC desire from the carphone warehouse and my boyfriend got his from vodafone. The two are completely different, my boyfriend wants the same as mine. How do I find out what rom I have on my phone so he can get it for his? Ive already rooted his phone and we are trying to find roms that he likes.

How do I find out if my Desire screen is AMOLED or SLCD, as this seems to be important for rooting? There is nothing that makes sense on the box sticker, but then it IS an Orange phone. If I power up so I can see the HBoot info, it also says "Touch Panel Synt 0101". Does this mean anything? It's HBoot 0.83, and dated June 10 2010.

I've had my Desire for a couple of months now, love it, and very little I can complain about (except the occassional SD card problem!) However, I went to text today, and in the "To" field, I started typing, attempting the special "just press the number, and we'll guess the corresponding letter" approach, which I've used throughout my time with the phone. However, it didn't work: instead, it's just offering me T9 or normal ABC - it's not doing the clever guessing thing. For example, if I wanted to text my mum, stored as "mum" in my phone book, I'd usually type "686", however, now, that's simply coming up with "mtm". I don't think I switched any option, but if I inadvertently did, I can't find where to undo it.

Relatively new Desire owner here (nearly two weeks). I got the Desire as a replacement for my first Android phone, the Samsung i7500 Galaxy (grrrrrrr) as I complained about the ongoing issues with that handset (dialpad issues, lack of support from the manufacturer, etc).As it was a replacement during my contract they provided an as-new handset (refurb/return under O2s 14 day return period). Phone is def as-new, not a mark on it, screen protector, new battery and charger etc. However it came in a plain box, and so I don't know if it's an AMOLED or SLCD handset. Also, I have no idea when it was manufactured. Not an issue as I have a warranty, but it's a point of curiosity. Anyone know how I can find out both of these points?

its terrible. just cant type anything without mistakes. thats bullshit. tried to install some other keyboards, but even though theyre enabled in language & keyboard, i cant get them to work after froyo update (orange, unrooted). as much as i love my desire, yesterday i was so angry i almost smashed it on the wall because i was getting pissed of with the mf keyboard! i dont need fkin updates if the most important thing doesnt work - the keyboard! i also have an 3 gen ipod touch. the screen is smaller, resolution smaller, but typing is sweet.

Been playing with the handset for a few days now. Playing for the sake of playing. Its time to play on something I think. Ones that use the potential of the desire, free ones to start with. Maybe something that uses motion, like some of the iphone games I have seen. Some are basic but really addictive such as getting a ball to drop down platforms before it gets crushed at the top of the screen (not sure what its called). Also a decent brain training DS type game?

I searched many forums but there seems to be no clear way to identify the screen type other than by eye. Clue #1: The box has no mention of AMOLED. Clue #2: P/N is 99HKZ009-00 Clue #3: Made in China Clue #4: Unbranded, unlocked phone bought from a US retailer. My plan is to root. According to what I've read so far, the method depends on the type of screen, SLCD or AMOLED. I need to know for sure, so as not to brick the phone.

Been using internet brilliantly for about a month on HTC Desire right up to a couple of days ago after an update. Now it refuses to connect to any type of internet, 3G or WiFi.
I'm on contract with 3 (despite bad repuation in the past they appear to have caught up with other providers), but am still waiting to see if it is a problem on their side.

My current situation is that I have a phone with 2 camera apps on it, stock and camera FV-5.
Camera FV-5 is slower than the stock camera, so I only use it in situations which I need manual control.
Whenever I open whatsapp and try to send a photo, the app asks me which camera I want to use, with no option to always use stock. I don't want camera FV-5 to exist as an option, as I will open it if I want to use it.
Is there a way to remove an app from the list so that my phone does not recognise camera FV-5 as a camera?

Watching a 30 min episode of a tv show, uses 25% of my Desire's battery life. Watching a 90 min movie uses 75% (funnily enough!)
Obviously, powering the lovely screen uses up a lot of juice. Just wondering whether there is any particular type of file that is more CPU intensive to decode and run, than others?
I currently use Mpeg 4 format. The program I use to convert my avi's to mpeg4, gives me different quality level options.
Would it make a difference to power consumption if I was to convert the avi's to a lower quality mpeg4 file?

This happened for the 2nd time in 2 days today. I go into messages, or email, or facebook, or anything...touch the textbox to bring up the keyboard, touch my keys and although it highlights the keys as normal, nothing goes into the textbox! Quitting the app and going back in did nothing. Had to shut down the phone and restart it to finally get it working.

I moved to shape writer and I haven't looked back. when I have to tap-type in certain words that aren't in the SW dictionary yet, its a pain in the @ss. I talked a couple other people into "swyping" instead of tapping and they fought at first, now they two can't stand tap typing anymore.

We have a user name and telephone field. User opens android keyboard and enters user name. Then in the keyboard user clicks the 'Next' button and it launches the telephone type keyboard. But the same behavior is not observed in case of swift keyboard. If user chooses swift keyboard, App doesn't bring the telephone keyboard on click of telephone field. Is there anyway I can enforce user to use Android Keyboard?

I'm new to the forums, and very interested in the Evo. I was wondering about the HDMI connector type on the Evo. I did some quick searches in google and the forums here and didn't see anything definitive. ImGreen brought up the question in the official Evo thread, but I'm still working on reading through that. At the point I'm at, I didn't see a clear answer. Anyway, I came across this information, and I'm posting in hopes that it's helpful to others (perhaps in search results) and not rehash. Here's a comparison to HDMI Type-D to Micro USB.

After you speak and it transcribes the message, how do you accept it? It seems to automatically add a space after the message.so if I press space to accept it, I need to go back 2 spaces to add a period. If I press '.' to accept it and add punctuation, it leaves a space between the end of the transcribed message and the punctuation.I know this sounds minor but when sending a lot of texts, it can be really annoying.
