HTC Desire :: BBC IPlayer : Type Of Flash Content Not Supported / Get IPlayer Working?
Apr 17, 2010
I'm in the UK, and when I try to play the BBC iPlayer, I get this message:
Shockwave flash. This type of flash content is not supported
Is there anything I can do to get the iPlayer working?

On this forum:- BBC iPlayer - Help - Can I access BBC iPlayer on my mobile phone? It says that I can listen to BBC radio, at least in catch-up mode, on my HTC Desire now that it is on Android 2.2. I connect via my home wifi and can get to the Radio 3 website but cannot find anyway to get to listen to catch-up. On my pc there is a link "7 days left to listen" for this afternoons programmes, on the Radio 3 schedule page. There is no such link on my Desire.

BBC iPlayer switches my tablet off if I try to resume playing a downloaded programme after I've switched tablet off. I emailed iplayer support who claimed they had not come across this problem. I think it might have been since 4.4.2 was installed.

Bought a shiny new Android phone (HTC Desire) today, everything going ticketyboo up to now and only a few small questions:
1) How do you know when your not using the internet? It's not a problem at home connected to wi-fi, but going to take phone to work tomorrow and not sure if normal internet will continue running in the background?
2) Is it correct that BBC iPlayer etc are not yet compatible with Android phones? Tried to get tvcatchup, but appears it's only available for iPhones?

I was quite excited to have flash on my mobile devise and as I have an unlimited subscription to Lovefilm I was looking forward to watching the on demand movies for free. But I was disappointed when I was met by the message "does not support this type of flash". Is there an update or an app I can use? Lovefilm uses Flash Player 10.

I have an Sandisk micro SD Card on my galaxy. I was downloading and deleting apps. But took I for my laptop and tethered my phone to copy some music, on my phone for some music it would say 'File type not supported' while all the music, would be mp3. And when I tether again to play the music again it would play with scratches..And finally when I take pictures with the phones camera, I would see it and it would be fine but, when I exit then check my gallery it would be corrupt if, I try and send it on whatsapp (even a song that says "file type not supported") it would say "Not an image/audio file". Should I format my card, get a new one or what?

I'm trying to handle the content not supported by the browser but for some reason I can't get my app to catch this intent... What do I need? Here is what the browser spits on the logcat:
Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW cat=[android.intent.category.BROWSABLE] dat=http://listen.di.fm/public3/oldschoolhouse.pls cmp=com.android.browser/.BrowserActivity }
I have: <activity android:name=".myAppr"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.VIEW" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.BROWSABLE" />
<data android:pathPattern="*.pls"/> </intent-filter>

I'm getting really frustrated. I can't get my PC with all my music and photos to recognize my new phone (Epic). Lots of people are having this issue. Not resolved with driver download.Anyway, I just learned about Dropbox and thought it might be my savior. I copy/pasted my iTunes songs into a Music folder in Dropbox on my PC. It started syncing to my phone, and as soon as a song showed up on my phone, I tapped the name, and it downloaded. Then this:"ROM file type is not supported" pops up. What does this mean, and what can I do?

I am still new to this android software and I downloaded drop box and deleted it and now when I download ringtones it says that the file type is not supported when the SAME EXACT file worked before I downloaded drop box. Is there a way to choose what files I support. I have a samsung epic if that helps at all.

I have an HTC Desire from Telus in Canada. In the last week or so I have noticed that my LED flash is no longer firing at all. Even when I set it the flash to be on. Is there a setting that I may have set that would disable it? Or is there a way to test if the led flash is still working? I would like to know, the Phone is only a month and a half old.

My Desire somehow isn't playing flash videos anymore, where it used to. Anybody know how to rectify this? If Flash 10.1 is a go, then its even better, however, I'll be happy with FlashLite working for now, rather than having it not work at all.

Bought a HTC Desire and just cannot get its camera flash working. Obviously having hard time with people at the shop ("have you tried taking these pictures at night, maybe it understands that it is still daytime even if you tried it in bathroom"). My dumb brain would suggest that manual - flash always on (unless that 5% battery limit is not hit), automatic - depends on sensor income, off - no flash. Really hard to search for stuff like that in forums as usually "flash not working" refers to Adobe Flash.

Today I carried out check to see if any updates were available. Much to my excitement I noticed that 2.2 was there so I carried out the download. I now have WiFi hotspot, flashtorch, 720p camcorder and applications sharing available in my apps list. The problem stems when I go to view just in TV or BBC iplayer and I am told that my device does not support flashplayer. I have checked and adobe flashplayer is there when I go to manage applications. When I click on it takes me into it but all options to click on are shaded and I cant do nothing about it.

In android it is not directly possible to share files and folders across different application. The only way is Content Providers.
1. Is there any general (any file type) content store? Today there is Audio, Video and Image Store.
2. Wanted to write new Content Provider to store Big files, like Video and Audio. Saw some examples, like

I've been stunned by how different Samsung's camera behaves compared to the other devices I've tested camera preview stuff with.
Mind you, this is in 2.1 so the SDK 8 Camera.getZoomRatios() and Camera.isZooomSupported() are not available.
Looking at the Camera.getParameters().flatten() result shows that the common "zoom-supported" that I see in HTC, N1, and Mototrolla devices is not there.
Instead there's something called "digi-zoom". I couldnt find any documentation or posts about its usage but a little experimenting revealed it takes numerals 1..10 as string and will zoom accordingly. I have no idea what the ratios would be.
Also, there's some madness with the flash mode on the Galaxy S Epic that I have tested with.
Calls to getSupportedFlashModes() return only auto,on,off. There is no torch supported.
However, if you do params.setFlashMode(Camera.Parameters.FLASH_MODE_TORCH) it will turn the LED on!
Sadly, subsequently setting it to FLASH_MODE_OFF or FLASH_MODE_AUTO does not turn the LED off! It's stuck on until Camera.release(), or maybe Camera.stopPreview(), I havent traced into it yet to see which actually turns it off.
I suppose that's why Samsung doesnt return torch in the supported list. I'd prefer not to have to stop and restart the preview to turn it off for this model.

I currently have swype and I love it, but it only works in portrait mode.. if I turn my phone landscape for anything, I always get the error "not supported in this resolution." All I want is a version that is supported so I don't get this error.

I have Nook Color with CyanogenMod 7.2. I have tried tons of web browsers: Opera Mini, Dolphin HD, Firefox, Browser (native browser), Maxthon, Skyfire, and Puffin Free. None could stream (flash) videos. They either weren't able to do it at all, or did it with lots of stuttering. What is the best way to play flash videos in web pages?

I am a bit of a novice but have managed to work a lot of things out about my HTC desire through this website but I am struggling with playing online TV and videos as well as downloading films onto my phone. Firstly I am a fan of channel 4 on demand and I tried to watch something a box comes up which says- 'shockwave flash- there is not enough free memory to display this flash content' -
Does this simply mean that I need a bigger micro SD card as I have only got the 4GB one enclosed with the phone, if it is as simple as that then could get an 8 or 16 GB microcard? Next problem is watching online films (for example from blinkbox.com), I can watch these on my laptop but my phone wont play them- do I have to install a special player to get these to work?
And finally I am right in thinking there is not an app like the iphone in which you can click and buy movies on the HTC desire? If not how do I download movies onto my phone or maybe download them on my laptop and transfer them to my phone?

I am experimenting with using a WebView to display Flash content inside my activity. Everything is working pretty well, but when the user hits the home key to put the activity into the background, the Flash content keeps running (sound keeps playing, etc)
I have noticed that both the stock Android browser and Dolphin Browser seem to avoid this problem, and properly pause the Flash content when the browsing activity is put into the background.
Ideally I would like a solution that kills the WebView completely if the activity is finishing, but pauses it otherwise (basically copying the default behavior of the browser)
Here is a simple test I put together that loads a game on Kongregate which has some background music:
CODE:..............
I took a look at the latest source for the stock browser, and it seems to be doing something similar (calling pauseTimers/resumeTimers), although I fear the code I have been looking at is out of date, because it is calling functions that don't seem to exist anymore.
I did verify that the call to pauseTimers is working by testing with a simple JavaScript setInterval which updates a counter. Is there something else obvious that I should be trying in regard to Window or View management?
The documentation for the mobile Flash player says:
Flash Player will also automatically pause SWF playback it is not in view or the foreground application, for example when a call is received or alarm goes off, to reduce CPU utilization, battery usage and memory usage.
This seems to be working perfectly in both the stock browser and Dolphin Browser, but not in my app. Any ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated!
Update: Here is the function we ended up adding to our activity to get this to work. We call it with "onPause" in the activity's onPause function and "onResume" in the activity's onResume function:
CODE:....................

First post: This is probably a dumb question. Why do I get a white screen with a circle and a gray triangle when trying to view flash content? Example: Zinio or Olivesoftware. Motodroid, Android 2.2, Flash 10.1.92.8 from Market.
