HTC Desire :: Speaker Phones Not Working
Jul 1, 2010
Is it just my handset, or are all desire speaker phones poor? Is there any way of improving it? It was crystal clear and loud on the hero, but it's pretty much unusable on my desire! And yes, the volume is turned up to full.

I listen to music or podcasts all day long at work. When I get a call, I pull out the headphones and answer the call. From time to time, I will not get any audio through the phones normal speaker. It will work if I plug back in the headphones or if I go to speaker phone. The only way I have found that will clear up this issue, is to pull the battery and reboot. It is like my phone is getting stuck into thinking the headphones are still in.

Just installed Air Horn app, and for some reason the speaker has stopped working, no sound, no music, no alarm in the morning.
As soon as i un-install app, all good again.
Anyone else seen anything similar?

I downloaded the FroYo OTA update, and my external speaker quit working. The earpiece still works, plugging in headphones still work, but I get no notification sounds, music, whatever out of the other speaker. Anyone else? Any fix?

Got some weird problem:
The ear speaker in my Evo stopped working, presumably after 2.2 upgrade. I cannot hear anything during phone call or when I listen to voice mail. When I turn on speaker or insert headphones - I hear fine.
I got this problem with one Evo and thought it was a hardware problem. Sprint exchanged it. Got the new Evo, upgraded to 2.2 and now the same issue. I did checked the ear speaker before upgrade and it was working.
Hard reset did not help. I checked all the settings I could.
I found on another forum that someone had similar issue. Anyone else? Any suggestions?

im having a problem with my samsung galaxy s advance. Few weeks ago i spilled some pepsi over my phone. I dried it and everything was working fine. 3 days ago, my speaker stopped working. I reflashed my firmware and it worked for about 5 seconds and then it made cracking sound and would not work. I noticed that, if i suck air from the speaker with my mouth(sometimes i can just put my mouth over it) it would work for 5-30 seconds. But as soon as i remove my mouth it stops working.

Ok so this is the first problem I've had with my evo so far. In the last two days my external speakerhas stopped working but only after I change the profile to vib or silent then go back to normal. To get sound again I have to do a battery pull then it works again. So I have a feeling its a software issue. I wanted to know 1st if any one else has had this 2nd what do I want to use to back up to do a reset. And 3rd how do I do a reset.

On Friday I got my Froyo upgrade, and since then everything is fine except I discovered that when on calls I can no longer hear anything through the internal speaker... the only way to hear anything is by switching to speakerphone.
Any idea what has caused this? Is my hardware busted?

is the speakers equal to the HTC Desire? Or better? how can the phone ring louder when it is put in a bag? if it is already on maximum volume? does the SRS and Dolby Digital really have a difference? I'm seriously afraid of all those things before I buy a DHD

I have had my desire a few weeks now. I have a problem with it.Every time i make a phone call or accept a phone call the phone will switch to speaker phone. This happens before i put the phone up to my ear so it is not my face that is turning on speaker phone. If i hold the phone in my hand and dial a number and press call, it goes to speaker phone. If the phone rings and i answer it, it will always go straight to speak phone.

I am optimizing a game for performance. A large part of the screen remains the same from frame to frame and it takes a while to render, so I intend to use glScissor() to limit new drawing to only certain parts of the screen. I do not do a gl.glClear(GL10.GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); so the bits that were drawn previously should remain.
This provides a large speed increase and works very well on the Droid and on the emulator. However, it is not working on the G1 or Droid Eris, both made by HTC. The areas outside the scissor region are still being drawn over in a strange way. It's as if what's being drawn inside the scissor region is being wrapped outside the region. There is a large rectangle in the middle of the screen that has the correct contents. This is the defined scissor region. Immediately below the scissor region is a row, maybe 150-200 pixels high that looks like an exact copy of the bottom of the scissor region. Again, this only is happening on the HTC phones.
I believe that unless I specifically clear the color bits, they should remain from frame to frame. Is this correct? Is this an HTC OpenGL library bug?

I use my Desire in the car quite a bit, and as I don't have a bluetooth hands free kit, my old one got smashed in the boot when I dropped a big tool box on it. Dumb ass, I'm using the inbuilt speaker on the phone. While for the most part, this is fine, I would like to increase the volume slightly. Obviously not enough to blow the speaker. I know there's an app/mod for the headphones volume, but what about the speakers volume? Anyway of increasing that?

My speaker isn't loud enough - when the phone is ringing/when in speaker in a phonecall / when listening to music. Same goes for the earpiece volume - and the volume is at the maximum level.

Some apps like location tracking apps on my sons phone does not work all the time when his phones on 2g internet. But on wifi it seems to work all the time. Apps like life360 location tracking apps, remote control apps like androidlost, which uses push messages and also polling services works intermittently. Sometimes it works on 2g internet and sometimes it does not. But on wifi, there's no problem at all.
But strangely messaging apps like viber works continuously on 2g or wifi without any problems.

What is the quality of the DHD speaker, I've heard it's not very loud or clear? I'm upgrading from an iphone 2G which had a terrible speaker, so I assume it's better than that. Is it loud enough to listen to music without headphones?

I had an HTC Desire (actually I had 4) before I got a refund due to a whole host of technical problems. Given that the problems I encountered don't seem to be widespread (mostly concerning the vibrate mechanism failing), I am thinking I may have just got caught up in a bad batch and am considering trying again.I tried other phones but nothing really compares to the Desire at the moment. The iPhone 4 looks nicer, but the OS bores me to death and it seems there are far more technical problems with the iPhone than the Desire at the moment.I have looked around for other upcoming phones and, aside from the Evo 4g which is not in the UK, I can see no other alternatives to the desire. Am I missing any other options?I don't consider the Galaxy S an alternative as it looks and feels like a cheap plastic toy.
