-'Hotspot' will act as a stationary hotspot,
-'Child' will be on devices that are going in and out of range.
The hope is that a 'Child' app will come into range of the 'Hotspot' app and transmit it's ID. The ID will then be visible on the 'Hotspot' app, along with other 'Child' apps in range. When the user of the 'Hotspot' app clicks on one of the 'Child' apps in range, it's ID will be logged for later use.
Can you code an app to act like a WiFi hotspot for connecting one device to several devices without allowing abuse of their data plan.Can the two apps on two different devices 'talk' to each other WiFi?
General :: Some Apps Not Working When Phones On 2G Internet And Not On WiFi
Nov 26, 2013Some apps like location tracking apps on my sons phone does not work all the time when his phones on 2g internet. But on wifi it seems to work all the time. Apps like life360 location tracking apps, remote control apps like androidlost, which uses push messages and also polling services works intermittently. Sometimes it works on 2g internet and sometimes it does not. But on wifi, there's no problem at all.
But strangely messaging apps like viber works continuously on 2g or wifi without any problems.

Sep 20, 2010I've read a lot of posts about getting WiFi tether for a rooted phone, BUT not many talk about the newest version of a rooted froyo 2.2. The android-wifi-tether site shows only a "wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre9.apk" for the HTC Evo 4G Android 2.1 (Eclair) version. Some posts say it works for 2.2, but it clearly says *** EXPERIMENTAL ***, and that is for 2.1. SO given that many of us will now have a rooted 2.2, who is using what to get WiFi tether on our rooted 2.2 EVO?

May 23, 2010My wife just got an Eris and I rooted but did not install a custom rom. I have downloaded several of the android wifi tether versions (the free one) and several of the versions say that I don't have root and will not let me tether the phone. I can type su in terminal and get the # line so I think I have root. I also tried barnacle and it will let me connect to the network but will not go online. I am very new to to all of this but we are going on a long trip and want to use her phone to tether an ipad. I have an incredible and can't do it with mine yet.

According to the google code page for the app there's a problem with Desire compatibility. I'd use the wired USB internet sharing feature in the meantime but that isn't working for me either.

I connect to my windows 7 pc and it is fine for surfing the web but if i download torrents it works for a couple minutes then i can see the 3g icon go away and come back over and over. But i download torrents fine if i use pdanet to tether.

Oct 16, 2010I rooted my Eris and I am running KaosFroyo v37. I downloaded Wireless Tether, and its not working. Its broadcasting that it made an available wireless access point, but when I try to connect to it nothing happens. My computer wont link up to it. I know my WiFi card works because I have a working wireless access point where I live that I use every day with no issues. Its like my laptop sees the network, but wont associate with it. I tried using barnacle and it did the exact same thing.

Aug 27, 2010As the title, I downloaded barnacle about 2 weeks ago and could not get it working on my phone then visited the makers site on my laptop. Found a link on there to the settings needed to make it work on the X10 and here it is: Set LAN to athwlan0 Thats it! So if your rooted you can turn your X10 into a wifi hotspot and run what you want on it! 2 laptops and a PS3/Xbox? no problems. Let your poor friend who needs to use wifi to go online with their phone? No problem.
Apparently you can even let an ipad go online via the app and it is bloody fast I use a dongle for internet and although its on the same network as my phone the phone is lightening quick at sending data! Once connected it will show up as your only connected to a local network but it runs via an adhoc network so will only show a local connection. There are a few other minor connection details but you should find the answer with playing with it or just post on here and I will try to help.

HTC Incredible :: Wifi Tether & Swype Not Working On 2.2
Aug 1, 2010I had wireless tether working before going to 2.2. Now it appears to be working on the phone, but on the computer it shows "Local Only". I tried uninstalling, rebooting then reinstalling... no luck with that.
Also, I am part of the Swype Beta. I had Swype resend the email when I updated to 2.2 and reinstalled. It works until I reboot my phone, then it goes into "tap only" mode. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Both programs start up correctly and allow me to enable to wifi tethering but I can't get any device to see the wifi connection they are creating. I've also however heard that sometimes it still gets back to the carrier and they cancel your service. Jan 17, 2013The problem is when I connect my laptop using the Android Wifi or USB tethers, I can only access HTTPS sites. If I try to hit a HTTP site, they give the general 'could not connect' error. I have tested to ensure I can hit both HTTP and HTTPS sites from my phones browser. I have the same issue using multiple different Wifi and/or USB tether apps.
TL;DR
With LG Motion (MetroPCS) I am able to browse HTTPS sites but can not browse HTTP sites when using an Android Wifi or USB tether app.
