I've been trying to find a way to not display the recent calls in my phonebook when either selecting someone for a message or just scrolling through the names when pressing PHONE from the home screen. Is there an option to remove the recent calls as it mucks up the alphabetical order of the thing and frankly is very confusing.

I just got the Samsung Galaxy 3 which came with Jellybean going from a Droid 2 with a older version of the operating system. Is there a way to dial directly from Recent Calls without selecting the actually contact. I can't find a way to do it. I have to click the contact and then click the little green phone icon. On my old Droid the little green phone icon was all the way to the right of the contact and you could just dial the directly. Also, is there a way to make it default to Recent instead of the Keypad when you select the Phone icon. Or is there a Shortcut for Recent Calls that I can get. Again, there was a Shortcut that came with my old Droid that I was able to use.

For me, chances are that I'd call someone that I've recently called or talked to.
I rarely use the dial pad anyway. I don't use the dial pad tab as often as the contacts tab.
Since accepting the Gingerbread update, I have noticed that the Recent Calls feature of the Dialer now only shows timestamps in reference to the current time rather than the time the call occurred. Calls now show timestamps in the format of 1 hour ago or yesterday rather than displaying the actual time of the call.

I reformatted all the contacts to +1-555-555-5555 format(something that someone on a google forum suggested) but it still doesn't fix the problem. For instance- A friend named Steve called me. I see incoming call from and it knows who steve is and says "Incoming call from Steve". I called him back, clicking on the exact icon in my missed calls that says his name and it says I called 5551231234 (unknown). This happens in my messages as well, and it is starting to drive me crazy. I will get a message from 5551231234 and it will only list the number and not the name, so I have no idea who is texting me. For some reason my phone is incapable of putting it together to figure out that the number it lists as unknown is already a contact in my contacts. I have to always call people back to figure out who it is or send a text asking who they are.

The only problem is now all my contacts that were saved in my old gmail acct need to be transferred to my new one. Not a big deal (only have 10 because I lost my phone, reason why I have an Eris). However, my brother called. Since I lost him from my contacts, I used the recent calls window to add him. Hit Save. If I go to People, he isnt there. Retried it 3 times. I figure I can just re add him through gmail on my PC and sync it, but that's inconvenient and I wanna know: why isn't this working?

Any way to stop my phone from opening the recent calls list after I receive a call? I call be listening to music take an incoming call then after the other party hangs up my phone opens the recent call list. I would like it to just got back to what ever I had open at the time of the call, like the music app.

I guess that Android won't let people to do this, because they think they have perfect handle for the task/applications. However, I really need to do this in my case.
I have an activity A acting as the entry point of my application. In that activity, it reads the preference and decided which activity to start, say B or C. After that, it finishes itself. So, activity A never appears to the users.
My application stores things on sdcard, and reads from it constantly. So, when the sdcard is unmounted, I need to display a message to the user that the sdcard is unavailable, instead of opening B or C. I set a check in A to display that message when sdcard is unavilable. When that message is displayed, A will not try to start B or C.
Things works perfectly if user only enter my application from application launcher. However, I found that user can also enter my application by long pressing home and choose it from the recent application list, if he has opened it recently. When user does that, it skips A and goes directly to B or C. I don't have the check in both of them, so exception is thrown while I am trying to access sdcard, and force close dialog pops up.
I can simply move my check to both B and C to fix this problem. But in the future, the number of activities started from A will increase. If there are 6 of them, I'll need to copy this check to 6 places. Needless to say, this looks very ugly, and is a maintenance nightmare.
So, the best fix should be removing my application from recent application list when the sdcard is uunmounted. However, I can't find how to do this. Even killing the process or use ActivityManager.restartPackage, it still appears in the list. Can anyone tell me how to remove it from the list?
I have just done a search but cant find anything. Does the htc hero have loud speaker when in a call. I always use loudspeaker on my last phone just wondering if u can on this wonderful phone.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm on a team that manages a large number of Android tablets for the company at which I'm employed. The higher ups are concerned that our users will just walk off with the tablets and do a factory reset, making the device theirs. I was hoping there was some way to password-protect the bootloader, but it doesn't seem like that's possible. So now we're thinking that even if we could remove the recovery, it would ease the minds of the higher-ups to know that if a tablet disappears, the user will have to have a working knowledge of fastboot to be able to to a factory reset on the device, and that's good enough for us. I've looked into possibly modifying the stock recovery to just remove the factory reset option, and I would be willing to flash a modified CWM or TWRP without factory reset, if either of them exist.
I know the old adage: Physical access is root access, but if we can at least dissuade them from stealing the devices, it would make my bosses feel much more at ease about spending a buttload on the tablets.
I got an HTC Desire recently which I haven't rooted yet or made any major modifications to. For a few weeks, the Friend Stream widget was working fine but now it is broken. It doesn't show any updates ("no recent updates") and if I click on the arrow in the top right corner (which I think takes you to the full Friend Stream app?), it thinks for a while and then I receive a message that process com.htc.friendstream has stopped unexpectedly. Is there any way to get this working again? Are there any logs anywhere that could point me to what is causing the process to crash?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have gone through many threads in this group about avoiding the use of everlasting Services, Timer/TimerTask sleep issues and detecting phone calls, but not finding the answers I am looking for this app, I will really appreciate any help you can provide me. I am working on an App to detect incoming calls and when the call time is equal to 5 minutes indicate the user by vibrating the phone. In my strategy I am creating a Receiver that listens for RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED action and launch an everlasting Service which sets up a PhoneState Listener.
1) Is there any other strategy to be always listening for incoming calls and thus avoide to using an on boot created Service? (besides the Service eventually gets killed and I am not able to detect incoming calls) A first approach I took here was setting up a Timer and TimerTask when CALL_STATE_RINGING state was detected and after 5 min (if the call continues) vibrate the phone for 2 seconds. However sometimes the timer phone vibrates after an hour a call was placed (the vibration happens in the run() TimerTask method. I know Android can go to sleep and that could be the reason my timer is not run on time but 2) How can Android be slept if I am in a call? Is the call just handled by the modem or how come? Next, to overcome this issue I tried preventing the Service from going to sleep by putting it in foreground state calling startForeground (NOTIFICATION_ID , notification), still the same behaviour the timer is run long after the call was placed 3) does startForeground prevent Android going to sleep or it is just aimed to keep the Service's process in memory? 4) A wake lock would do this job ? (I have not tried this) Encouraged by many post I tried using an Alarm and it works (thought I do not want to use it because I think it should be possible to accomplish with something lighter) but when the phone vibrates it just keeps vibrating till I remove the phone from my cheek (the screen is turned on again) 5) Why? Is it that Android started vibrating the phone and then went to sleep? so the vibration is turned off when Android awakes, when the screen is turned on again? 6? Ideas of how to stop the timer?

When someone leaves me a message and i press callback it calls that number and Verizon wont recognize that +1 extension in front of the area code.
