HTC Desire :: Internet Search Button Change Provider
Jun 8, 2010Does anyone know if you can change the search provider when you press the search button when viewing the internet? I'm currently using dolphin hd and when using the search button it uses Google.com instead of Google.co.UK. thus giving American websites in results instead of .co.UK ones.

Aug 22, 2013Recently I've ordered a Cube U9GT5 tablet and so far it's great, however I miss a small feature and really makes the life easier, and that is the button to kill all apps in Recent Apps window. I have this feature on my I9000 running GamerzROM (4.2.2) and I really miss it on my tablet.
The Cube is also running on 4.2.2 and is rooted. Is there any tweak or an app that can add this button?

Oct 20, 2011Since accepting the Gingerbread update, I have noticed that the Recent Calls feature of the Dialer now only shows timestamps in reference to the current time rather than the time the call occurred. Calls now show timestamps in the format of 1 hour ago or yesterday rather than displaying the actual time of the call.

Sep 29, 2010Currently using Dolphin HD on my desire. When using the soft search button is there anyway of changing it to search via Google.co.UK and not Google.com. Its really annoying when your search results are all for American sites. The stock desire browser uses co.UK but I much prefer Dolphin HD.

Android :: Recent Apps Change In 2.2 / Brings Main Activity To Foreground
Jul 24, 2010The recent apps display seems to function quite differently from earlier versions on 2.2. Try the following for instance: 1) Open an app 2) Click on something that takes you to another activity in the same app 3) Press the home button 4) Press and hold the home button to get the recent list of apps - select the app you chose in step 1 5) You'll be taken to whatever activity in that app is specified as the main/launcher Activity, rather than the Activity on top of the stack (as it was previously) It makes it appear to the user that the application has exited when the home screen button was pressed. I don't have my app set to clear history on launch or anything like that, and I can replicate it on the emulator and with any app on my device (Contacts, Gmail, Engadget etc) Anyone else notice this? Anyone know any reason for the changes? I must admit I quite dislike the new method.

Dec 7, 2012I know I can change the Google Now card settings to celcius and it also changes the voice search. But I don't want to use Google Now since I have no good use for it and on my leaked firmware it is a battery drainer.
When I disable Google Now after making the change to celcius it resets all card settings to default and the voice search goes back also.

May 27, 2012I know the google search bar at the top in ics is not just a google search, since you can adjust searchable items to include other apps, contacts, etc. But I primarily use it as a go to search engine from my home screen.
I have been using dolphin hd browser and while it is the default browser for opening links in gmail, etc, the search bar results always default to the stock browser when you click on them.
HTC Desire :: Friend Stream Crashed - No Recent Updates
Jul 16, 2010I got an HTC Desire recently which I haven't rooted yet or made any major modifications to. For a few weeks, the Friend Stream widget was working fine but now it is broken. It doesn't show any updates ("no recent updates") and if I click on the arrow in the top right corner (which I think takes you to the full Friend Stream app?), it thinks for a while and then I receive a message that process com.htc.friendstream has stopped unexpectedly. Is there any way to get this working again? Are there any logs anywhere that could point me to what is causing the process to crash?

Aug 22, 2010Gesture Search (by Google) is a battery hog. My Seidio 1750 battery (a replacement and brand new) was draining a lot quicker than the one it was exchanged for, so after having it on for most of the day I decided to see what was causing the drain.
Gesture Search used the most battery out of all of the processes and it had the least amount of actual use. With my battery at around 70% after 12 hours (not much actual use today), Gesture Search had 47% of the battery use (the next highest being cell standby at 17%) and the actual time it was in use was 1m38s.
I don't know why that would be except that it has to always be running in the background (when setup for flip to open) and that maybe the cause of the battery drain. I'm going to set it to only open from the application shortcut and see if that alleviates the excessive battery drain. I'll let you know what I find.

Jun 30, 2010On my UK Milestone (rooted), long press on the search button only works when the hardware keyboard is shut, when the keyboard is open, long press works the same as a short press.
While looking for a fix for this, I found very little information on the net, so I'm wondering if it's a problem with only selected devices. Can anyone confirm for me if theirs works or not?
I have OpenSearch assigned to long press search, and since I always use the hardware keyboard, I need to close it, long press search, then open the keyboard. It's annoying.
I've looked at editing the qwerty.kl file in /system/user/keylayout, my idea was to try to redefine to search key on the keyboard (between left alt and @) to launch OpenSearch, but it apears that I can only redefine keys to other keys that way, not launch apps.

Jan 23, 2012I'm ultimately looking for a way to play/pause and skip music without turning on the screen. I had an HTC Hero a while back running CM7 RC, and I had a few options for this. Holding the volume rocker up or down skipped the song forward and backwards respectively, and when I had a headset in, the Mic button could also have these functions. A single press would play/pause, or answer a call (depending on phone state), double tap would skip the song, and a long press would activate voice search.
I now have the Epic 4G, and none of these functions work anymore. The volume rocker just changes the volume, and the mic button only answers calls, or activates voice dialing, and even then, the screen has to be on and unlocked. I find this of mild annoyance. I haven't found any obvious way to change these settings.
Basically, I want to know how do I change the function of hardware keys? Specifically, the mic button on a wired headset and the volume rockers for music functions.
