HTC Desire :: Moving Back To IPhone
Aug 15, 2010
I had my HTC desire for a month, but I'm sorry to say that I will go back to iPhone. Don't get me wrong, the device is amazing, super smooth and fast, good camera, internet loads faster than my old 3GS and open apps in matter of seconds. Most importantly, it offers me endless possiblity of customization.Even having all that great features, there is something that lacks, and it makes me regret of my purchase sometimes. I tried to make it work, I tried to adapt and change my preferences, but I can't do that anymore.Today I was in the market because I just got bored of the only 5 good games for android. So I entered looking for soiemthing new. Seeing apps like "shinobi barrage" and "ghost chaser" being 4 stars and topping the games list, it made me sad. Games like those only get 2 stars in apple market. And I don't like having such a powerfull device just to play a game with 10 years old graphics. Then I encountered with the nazi theme and ringtone apps.

Apologies if this has already been discussed and not wanting to start any sort of flame wars.Has anyone else moved to Android from iPhone? If so what where the main reasons.I am patiently waiting for the HTC Desire to land in the UK to upgrade, my main reasons for doing so are:Dislike of Apple's recent activities, the seeming arrogance they have in thinking they are the only company that should be able to provide a touch screen smart phone.Getting away from the walled garden of iTunes and iPhone. I want to be able to use my phone however I like and not how Jobs and co tell me.Being able to change base functionality how I like. Prime example being podcasts.I regularly download 3-4 a week and hate having to either connect to iTunes or manually check every time for all my podcasts. There isn't an app for that, Getting the latest hardware that I want and being able to chose the features that are important to me. Do I want a keyboard, a better camera, a removable battery.

First time poster here. I'm finally nearing end of my dreaded At&t contract and want to get a Verizon phone asap. My iphone 3G has been great in some ways like ease of use and compatibility with lots of features I like, but it's so slow to use that I find myself wanting to throw it on the floor almost every time I use it. Keyboard lag, crashing apps, apps not working, and poor reception really make this device poor big time. So I'm interested in mainly the Droid 2 Global, but I'll also look at the droid incredible and Palm Pre 2. I know the droid 2 global isn't out yet, but it looks to be similar enough to the D2.
1. With the D2, can you remove the memory card and still use all functionality of the phone.
2. How much of the 8 GB memory can be used to store apps, music, photos, email etc? Is it similar to the iphone storage where there are no limits to the number of apps and app size?
3. Is there a podcast store like iTunes where you can download ESPN podcasts?
4. Can you disable flash content in the browser?
5. Is there a home button to wake the phone up from sleep mode besides the power button on the top?
6. Does the phone come installed with junk/useless apps (stuff like nascar...)
7. Does the on screen or slide out keyboard lagg in apps like the iphone keyboard does?
8. Is exchange email supported?
9. How do I get the contacts from my PC onto the D2? (I don't want my gmail or facebook contacts).
10. Is there a facebook app (not a widget) so that facebook updates don't constantly load in the background?
11. Can you make/download your own ringtones and sms tones?
12. Does the D2 feel thick in your pocket?
13. can the D2 be used easily with one hand?

I get my first android phone, Nexus 5, tomorrow.
1) I have iPhone data plan through ATT. Is ATT going to make a big deal about me no longer on an iPhone? The plan allows me to tether so would like to keep it if I can.
2) Is there a tool that would allow me to transfer contacts, calendar, pictures and music to N5?

I have an iphone4s and I'm quite happy with it, except for the fact that I hate Apple. So I want to move back to Android. Things that I like about the iphone is the mail app and. mostly, battery life (battery consumption when screen is locked is superb, and that is the phone status usually). I'm not going to use the phone for games, but for calls, whatsapp, twitter, g+, music (lots of music playing), some video and gps navigation. I would like to ask people for recommendations on a good terminal based on (most important to less important):
1.- Battery life (I give importance to battery life when idle)
2.- Fast processor
3.- Fast charging
4.- Support for external storage (microSD)
5.- Cyanogenmod compatible
6.- If possible, the terminal sould allow me to replace the battery
Do not comment on things like switch off wifi when not browsing the web, or switch to 2G when not using 3G to improve battery life. I do not do that now and I have power for 36 straight hours with my iphone. I'm not looking for workarounds for bad battery life. I'm trying to have the same battery performance I have on my iphone on a phone with Android without switching things on and off.

I've got four activities
A, B, C and D where A is the main entry screen.
No matter how I navigate to B, C or D (via A->B or A->C-B etc), I want the back button to always go to activity A. What flag can I set to do this specifically?

I am writing a application where I am dealing with 4 activities, let's say A, B, C & D. Activity A invokes B, B invokes C, C invokes D. On each of the activity, I have a button called "home" button. When user clicks on home button in any of the B, C, D activities, application should go back to A activity screen ?
How to simulate "home" button in this case ?

I have been an Iphone user since Gen1, and have just come out of contract under AT&T.While I like the Iphone 4, with the unfortunate AT&T service (or lack thereof) that comes with the phone, it's just not an option anymore. In my area edge is the only available service, and even that has drop outs frequently. Then about 4 months ago, the WIFI quit on my phone, which made the AT&T service problems MUCH worse, or apparently so than they were before.I have had more bad calls, and dropped calls and lack of data availability than I can shake a stick at.I mostly use the phone for browsing and video/Podcast playback, but I use it A LOT.I love Itunes, and have a bunch of podcasts, including video ones that I listen to quite a bit.So I hope I can sync them still.

I'm coming from windows mobile here so I'm not sure if this is an Android thing or the Incredible specifically, but the bluetooth implementation absolutely sucks. I'm using the phone with the Plantronics 975, which is an absolutely fantastic earpiece. The problem is that it NEVER automatically reconnects to the headset after moving out of range and then back in. I've also verified this with an old motorola headset, so the phone is the problem. With my Touch Pro 2, I could walk outside to my car to get something with the earpiece still in my ear, and the phone would disconnect and then automatically reconnect when I get back inside. Not only does the Incredible not do this, but when I come back in, even after pressing the button on the bluetooth headset (which I didn't have to do on WinMo) it just says "paired but not connected" in bluetooth settings. In order to get the phone to reconnect with the headset, I have to turn bluetooth off, back on, go into wifi settings and click "connect" EVERY SINGLE TIME I go out of range and back in range. Coupled with the infamous lack of touchless voice dialing, I am seriously dissapointed in Android's implementation of bluetooth, and don't understand how Google can put out a phone that sucks so bad as a phone - especially when in many states such as mine, a bluetooth headset is the ONLY legal way to use your phone when you drive. Any ideas how to fix this annoying problem or am I just stuck with it?

I'm planning to purchase a Samsung Captivate this weekend, replacing an original iPhone. I have two questions for the forum: 1) Should I plan to immediately root the phone?, and 2) If so, what is the best process to follow and where do I find the ROMs? (I guess that's actually 3 questions)

I am new to Android, so new that I don't have it yet. Telus wants to give me a phone and when I tried the Desire in the store I fell in love with it. My current phone is an HTC Touch Pro 2 running Windows Mobile 6.1. I have disabled TouchFlo 3D and installed SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.5 which I have customized to my liking. The Desire interface was so similar and easy to use I want to move over "to the dark side" Here is my issue: I am a very heavy Outlook 2010 user. I run my business on MS Business Contact Manager 2010 in Outlook and all of my appointments and contacts (447 of them) are very important to me. Each contact has multiple addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses. I have been reading about the Desire for 2 days and I can live with a weak battery since I would have a car charger for the road and keep it plugged in when at my desk, similar to what I do with my TP2. What I can't live without is seamless syncing of all contact and calendar information. Tasks are important, but could be lived without. Some of the threads I have read say they can sync everything, others say they can sync nothing. I need another Outlook user to let me know if the Desire can sync all contact and calendar data seamlessly. If so, what is used to do it? I have read that the Froyo release with HTC Sync will work, but nothing about the details I mentioned above.

Running Froyo on my Desire. Have forced almost all my app's onto SD, apart from ones that run in background and update data. Still getting the annoying "low on memory" notification. Q. Is there a way to see exactly what applications are taking up the available memory space?

Since moving to Froyo I have noticed a problem.there are only a few apps at the moment that you are able to move to the SD card and I have noticed that when you I do move the app my internal memory does not increase back up. eg: say i have 110mb free internal memory and I install a 10mb app knocking internal down to 100mb if I "move app to SD card" it does transfer but my internal is still 100mb. Am i being completely stupid and missing something or have any of you guys had a similar prob?

Facebook is a huge application, as such I've had it installed in /system for a while now, however last night I decided I would upgrade to Facebook 2.0, when moving it to system the app force closes upon start.
I've tried totally uninstalling/reinstalling it, clearing data/cache/dalvik to no avail, any pointers? or is this simply how it is now?

I was recently in a debate on a linkedin forum over HTC Desire v iPhone. My view is the people who chose the android device do so because they like the better technology and hate the closed nature of the evil Apple empire. His view was that the only people who buy the android are kids who would really prefer an iPhone but cannot afford it! I was therefore wondering if there are any desire users out there who have converted from iPhone and if so which device do they prefer.

I cannot get my Iphone 3G and DHD to sync my contacts using the "Transfer Data" function. I follow the on screen instructions on the DHD. Set the Iphone to 'discoverable' but cant get any further. Usually the Iphone doesn't even appear on the DHD Bluetooth devices list and on the odd occassion that it does, as soon as i go to connect it drops out and says i should restart both phones. I have done this numerous times to no avail. Has anyone managed to do this same transfer? And if so can they provide a little assistance?

I'm really interested in buying a Desire although, unlike some, I intend to buy the phone outright with no contract as I already have a contract I am happy with. However, despite people saying this phone is cheaper than the iPhone, average prices are about 400 which is about the same price you can pick up a 16gb 3Gs. So, am I missing something? Whilst here, am I correct in thinking HTC offer a 2 year Warranty? For 400 I would like at least some safety in case it breaks through no fault of my own.

I am soon going to be going for a contract phone in the UK. The main reasons are for the internet, apps and GPS. Right now I am considering either Android or iPhone. Right now I am considering the iPhone mostly because of it's popularity and I own an iPod Touch so I am familar with iOS. I would if I got this iPhone immediately jailbreak it regardless of warranty. However, I am also considering getting an Android phone because I know that it offers similar capabilities and can cost allot less while offer more. I also hate the feel of Android 4 while the HTC Desire for example felt allot more comfortable.
I was wondering if you could answer some questions:
1. Can I sync Android phones with iTunes? I have all my music on there so it makes things allot easier.
2. How good is the web browser? The demo unit had no internet access so I couldn't test it out
3. What apps are there?
4. Is there anything similar to the following apps on a JB iPhone:
SBSettings
Use volume controls to change music tracks
Peggle
Youtube downloader
Free Tethering
loads of games e.g. Peggle, Tetris, etc.
Listen to music while in any app
5. Is there a chance that updates will stop being released, like with the iPhone 2g?
6. What does rooting do?
7. How hard is it to develop for?
8. How good does it run compared to iPhone 4? e.g. is it sluggish, etc?
9. What does Rooting do?
10. How hard is it to get apps and what is compatibility like? One thing I hated about WM6 (my dads) is how hard it is to get working apps.
11. Is there a good shop which will let me have a really good go with it including internet access, etc?
12. How good is GPS on the go?
