Im relatively new to android and rooting etc, but i am able to follow instructions quite competently. What i need to know is, once i have rooted can i go back if needed? and what do i do about backing up my stuff just in case i need to revert back? i have heard of this nandroid back up, is this what i need to do first?

HTC Desire :: Terrible Keyboard - Cant Type Anything Without Mistakes

Oct 6, 2010

its terrible. just cant type anything without mistakes. thats bullshit. tried to install some other keyboards, but even though theyre enabled in language & keyboard, i cant get them to work after froyo update (orange, unrooted). as much as i love my desire, yesterday i was so angry i almost smashed it on the wall because i was getting pissed of with the mf keyboard! i dont need fkin updates if the most important thing doesnt work - the keyboard! i also have an 3 gen ipod touch. the screen is smaller, resolution smaller, but typing is sweet.

Android :: Where Should Report Mistakes In Documentation - Source Says CountdownTimer

Jun 14, 2010

This is my first post ever -- I love the Android SDK (been at it for a week), but I did notice a small typo in the official documentation that needs correcting.

On this page within the example source code, the source says "CountdownTimer" on line 1 when it should say "CountDownTimer" (notice the capitalization of the letter "D"). An easy fix for one with programming experience, but the code as written will not compile, which could be confusing for someone using this code for the first time.

Is this where documentation bugs are submitted, and if not, where should I go to request the fix?

I'm contemplating if I should root my Nexus One mainly because I really want that extra performance boost. However I have a few questions. First will I still receive the OTA updates Google pushes out? And secondly, will I be able to revert back to stock android OS after rooting. And lastly, do all the Google apps work (mainly the Google GPS Navigation) without problems?

HTC EVO 4G :: Rooting - Back Up Factory Settings In Order To Exploit

Nov 4, 2010

I am big with games so I have been wanting to get an overclocking app for the Evo, but all I could find on the Market are apps for the Droid X/2. Is CPUSet the only (or the best) overclocking app for the Evo and what is the max speed you can safely overclock it? I have not rooted my phone, and just learned in order to even overclock it you need to do so. From what I have read on the forums, rooting the phone removes the warrenty. What I have not been able to find is how you back up the factory settings in order to "exploit" this if something happens to the phone in the future. This talks about it a little, but I didn't find any specifics. Quick INTRO TO ROOTING for those new to rooting

Another question I have is how much space do you actually save when it comes to rooting? Some people mainly root just gain complete control of the phone, others to increase/decrease speed and battery life, and some to save space getting rid of things like the Sprint NASCAR app. The Evo has 1G of internal memory, correct? Right now with the different apps I have installed I have 200-250mb free. I never checked what it was out of the box before installing anything, anyone have an answer there? Last question I have is with the different operating systems available. As said in the above thread (link), there are pros and cons with each (Baked, Fresh, etc.). Can anyone tell me of some for each, or is there a thread you can point me to that already does? I could only find info on Cynogon or whatever it's called.

Motorola Droid X :: Re-installing Leaked 2.2 After Reverting Back To 2.1 And Rooting

Sep 22, 2010

I loaded the leaked 2.2 when it first became available and then deleted update.zip from the SDCard Directory. 2.2 worked fine.I reverted back to 2.1 in order to be able to get the OTA version of 2.2. Reverting worked fine.I rooted 2.1 using Universal Androot.I installed the following apps: Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, DroidXBootstrap,I did a nandroid backup using Bootstrap.Based on the reports I read today of the OTA 2.2, I decided to re-install the leaked 2.2 Using Root Explorer, I moved su from Bin to Xbin directory in order to preserve root status.I connected the Droid X to my laptop and copied Update.zip to the SDCard. Note that my SD card if almost full - only 25MB left after copying update.zip.I then booted, cleared cache and proceeded to run the update.

KitKat 4.4 :: Nexus 7 - Back Up Device Before Rooting Or Installing Custom ROM?

May 7, 2014

I want to install Cyanogenmod and root my Nexus 7 2013, but I don't know what I should do to backup.

I previously tried to root and install CM on my Motorola Atrix HD on AT&T and successfully rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, and installed Clockwork Mod. I made sure to click backup and proceeded to delete the version of Android on the device and install Cyanogenmod. Cyanogenmod did not successfully install and I wanted to restore my device back to it the backup I made. It said that it did it successfully, but the device gets stuck on the AT&T logo when booting up and doesn't go past that.

I don't want to have to go through the same trouble with my Nexus 7 not being able to restore back to a backup in case something goes wrong. I'm using the Nexus Root Toolkit on my PC and will probably use the Cyanogenmod installer for installing CM11 (if there are any drawbacks to using the installer). What should I use to backup my device and how would I restore it back to stock if something goes wrong? And if I have a bricked device, how can I flash it back to stock?

HTC Desire :: Orange Branded Desire - Rooting - Unlocking And Froyo

Jul 23, 2010

I am toying with the idea of putting a Froyo Rom on my desire, but have several questions that aren't answered in other posts.

1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!

2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.

3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?

4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?

5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.

6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?

Then...

Once I'm at this stage where do I get the ROMs from?

Is there a good resource somewhere detailing what ROMs have what and where to download them?

I want to go to vanilla FroYo, can anybody recommend a ROM?

HTC Desire :: SD Card After Rooting And Going To 2.2

Jul 25, 2010

I have just used the instructions on this forum to first root my phone, and then install New 2.2 on to my desire. What a improvement in performance and Shockwave flash works. But I can't install on to my SD Card at all. If I download a app from the market (or my pc) which is set to install on extrenal storage (SD Card), it downloads and the installation fails. I also can't use APP 2 SD as when I try and copy to memory it fails. so if I then unmount my SD Card, and install the same app, it installs and works fine. So do I need to do something to my SD Card?

HTC Desire :: Rooting And OTA Update

Oct 28, 2010

I have a US Cellular Desire - I rooted it with Unrevoked 3 forever - only to free up some memory and take some apps off that were preloaded. I did not delete any stock files - or use a custom rom of any kind. My question is - when the 2.2 official OTA froyo update comes - will I be able to do it OTA since there is no custom rom? Or will I have to do it another way. If I have to do it another way -what is that process? I dont care if it stays rooted or not - I am new to all of this - and would actually prefer just to go with the 2.2 official froyo update and not be rooted in the future.

HTC Desire :: Flashing / Rooting / Recovery

Jul 22, 2010

Well I decided to have a play and rooted my phone using the unrevoked method. All quite painless.

I flashed a version of DeFrost (2.2) and had a play, but encountered a couple of problems.

So I flashed 2.3 when is became available.

Then I haf problems with battery drain. Since then there have been a number of new releases of DeFrost - pretty much every day.

So I decided to restore my Nandroid backup and stick with the stock ROM until things settle down a bit.

Having done this, I can no longer get into recovery. The phone hangs on the Pink Circle screen and I have to pull the battery.

So has restoring the Nandroid backup which was made using the ClockWorkMod Recovery destroyed the recovery flash, and is that what you would expect or has something bizarre happened to me.

Just curious as I assumed that once the Recovery was on there it would stay there.

It's no big deal as I'm sure it will be just as easy to go through the rooting process again.

I dont really understand why one wants to root, (rooting is different from unbranding right? but once u root u will unbrand, correct?) but can u unbrand without rooting? also once u unbrand, what happens to the market? read somewhere after unbranding they could not access very much? does it matter which conoutry you are in? i will be using the desire in asia. still cannot understand roms, cusotm roms, htc roms, soo confused
