HTC Desire : How To Keep Screen Light On?
Aug 4, 2010
Sorry Mods but searched and could not find any answer so:- Whilst "sat" waiting for my NON 3G/NON Wifi screens to load when trying to "surf the internet" I find that my screen light goes out! Is there a way or an app that keeps my screen light on for as long as I want it to?

on my old Samsung phone I had the backlight set to turn off after 30 seconds but this didn't lock the screen. With the Wildfire however with the backlight set to turn off after 30 seconds this also locks the screen. Is there a way to set it so the light goes off without locking the screen?

I've noticed that the LED light of my Desire Z doesn't keep blinking when I have a missed call, text message or Google Talk chat. I was worried that something was wrong with my phone, so I searched online and read that more people experience the same thing. But it's not clear to me if it's a standard thing--that the LED light just stops blinking after a certain period of time or that it's a glitch of some kind. Can anyone tell me? If it is a standard thing, are there any good apps that you'd recommend for this? I read something about an app called Missed Reminder.

When I use the camera function on my Desire I have the ability to turn the flash for the camera on or off. When using video however, the flash icon has a cross through it and I am unable to turn it on. Is there a way to turn on the LED/flash while recording video in low light situations?

I'm using the new US version of HTC Hero (I believe it's running 1.5) and I noticed the following pretty annoying problem that I cannot seem to tweak.
If a new calendar event or alarm come in, the screen briefly lights up to show what the message is, and then turns off after a short while. That way, I don't have to turn it on, pull down the protective screen, then the notification bar, etc.
However, with email, SMS, gtalk, and the like, the screen doesn't light up. There are settings for having a sound or vibrate, neither of which light up the screen. When I press the Menu or power button, the new notification sits happily in both the lower part of the screen and the notification area.

Just have a new htc desire on orange.I can't believe it doesn't even have the option to use the LED light when using the videocam. This is such a great feature when you are out in a bar, pub, or club or just outside at night. I have an old sony and nokia and they both have the feature and I have loads of great vids because of it.I have spent hours searching for apps that might make the LED light next to the camera work but there doesn't seem to be one. This means if you are using the phone as a light you have to use the screen like a numpty and not the powerful led. Should have gone for the xperia as my friend has it and it has this feature.

I plan to get an HTC Desire soon and have one last question on mind. The best phone I've used so far is the iPhone. If anyone's used/compared the iPhone and Desire with a hands-on experience, could you please let me know how well the touch sensitivity/responsiveness of the HTC Desire compares with the iPhones? i.e. does it respond as well to soft/light touches as the iPhone does? Also, how well would you place the touch sensitivity (good, better, best, equal) for Apple iPhone, HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy i9000, if you've personally experienced all 3, or any 2 of them.I haven't been able to get my hands on one unfortunately. This seemed to be the only way left to find out.

My phone doesn't charge. When I plug it in, the charging light doesn't come on, the phone turns on but turns off due to not enough battery.
I have the charger which plugs into the wall but has a USB port in the back so you can pull it out and easily connect to a PC. Have I screwed up something by constantly swapping it from a PC and plugging it into the wall?
I'm paranoid because I've got the bottom end of the charger stuck into my phone, I then stick it into my USB port - Should I be disconnecting it from my phone before connecting it to power so the phone doesn't screw up somehow?

I've just noticed that my notification light only blinks for almost exactly 5mins.
At first I thought it didn't always work because I would come to my phone, not see the light, take it off standby and see I have a message or email. Then I noticed it was working but just went off very quickly.
I've heard that task managers/killers can affect the alerts and I am running Astro but using it as a file manager and not a task killer (as I've discovered they're 99% unnecessary). I am also using Handcent for my SMS/MMS messages.
Is this normal for you guys? No matter what type of message I get, I only get 5mins worth of blinking.

Does anyone know how I can fix this without having to reinstall the ROM again? Inoticed that when I receive and SMS with handcent the blue led light does not come on and I constantly have to check if I have any sms's, I've tried every colour under the handcent settings but none make my LED come on when I receive an sms. The LED does work however when charging and getting missed calls.

1) Is it possible to use another battery from another htc device? Any other device have a stronger battery you can use? 2) when the green light is on, it means it is fully charged right? however when i go to the desktop app it shows you the percentage of charge, it is only ever in the 90's% when the green light comes on. something wrong with my battery? it still carries on charging but the green light comes on so early.

I've got an HTC Desire from a T-Mobile store 3 weeks ago. The ambient light sensor has never worked and it's enabled on the display settings.
I went back to the T-Mobile store and they tried a brand new unit. Unfortunately, that one also seem to have the same issue. Then I called the HTC technical support and they say there are no reports on such kind of issue.
If not, does the display brightness get adjusted quickly or slowly?

HTC now has an in store fix for the flying screen syndrome but you can do this at home. Take a credit card or similar type of item and wedge it in between the screen and the phones frame lifting the screen bottom as much as you can without causing further lifting damage. Then remove the battery door and locate the two holes in the photo with the tooth picks. Put a couple drops of crazy glue in each hole then remove the credit cards and quickly clamp the screen down for about a half hour. Clothes pins might work as make shift clamps try therm before starting. If you can get your screen up enough to put the crazy glue tip directly under the screen you can do this also but use very little glue and dot it maybe 4 times across the area for a good even hold then clamp. I would tape off the screen and phone frame just in case some leaks out by accident doing this method. Once the screen is secure use automotive black silicone adhesive sealant I like Permatex brand found at WalMart (now this stuff can also be used to glue the screen down but will take longer to dry 12 hours put it on a tooth pick and shove it under the lifted screen bottom then clamp) You can take this black silicone and dab a small amount around the screen crack and with your finger or a q tip force it in the light leak crack then simply take a tissue and wipe off any excess silicone before it sets you will have no damage to the phone from spilling it just wipe it off. You should now just have a tiny bit shoved in the crack with all the rest wiped off. let it set and you are done!

I finally decided to do it. I had an idea to use the corner of a sheet of paper dabbed in krazy glue to slide up and down the sides and bottom of my phone while holding the screen down for a while. Surprised, it worked like a champ, and any excess glue that got anywhere on the phone was easily removed with acetone. Unless you have very sturdy hands, I would not advise this.

Has anybody else ever been in an SMS (Google Voice), email, or IM conversation with somebody, with your phone continually beeping every 30 seconds when you get a new message? This happens to me a lot. The phone is sitting next to me on my desk, and each time it beeps, I pick it up, push the power button, swipe to unlock, swipe down the notifications bar, and then look to see what's new. After doing this about 30 times in an hour, I have to ask myself, is this really necessary on a modern smartphone? The dumbest dumbphone I know will light up when you get a new text. Now, I have searched high and low, and am I just stupid, or is there no setting or app available to turn the screen on for like 5 seconds and display new notifications as soon as they come in?

These packages are alternative gapps. These Gapps should improve performance. On top of that all apps are up to date (like YouTube). Ultra Light version will also remove unnecessary preinstalled apps like yaam, DSP Audio Manager and so on (and some more gapps of course).

my boyfriend and i have identical droids...on the text messaging screen, where it shows the names of the people you have sent texts to, there is a green dot or a red clock beside the person's name on his but not on mine...it seems to be some sort of tracking because when i my phone is in use his phone shows a green dot beside my name, and when my phone is idle his phone shows a red clock beside my name...

I've had a HTC Evo now for 2/3 weeks, and I love it! But over the last few days it's started to act funny....
What it's doing is lets say I unlock the phone and have it laying on my desk, in the past it would show the screen in portrait orientation....but over the lat 2/3 days its been jumping to landscape and I have to pick up the phone, tilt it to get it back to portrait, and if I lay it back down it will go back to landscape.
This is mainly annoying when checking emails/texts/etc, but also if I am on the train and holding it near my waste, depending on the angle it will bounce back and forth from portrait to landscape!
I originally did a reformat when I bought it, and I am going to do it again shortly to see if that helps....just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if it's fixable (and yes i do want auto rotation)....
My phone has a few other problems such as minor light leakage, and a dead pixel (which I was going to look past and keep the phone)...so if this is something wrong with the hardware it would be a pretty good reason to get a replacement within my 30 days....

I've noticed that when viewing the screen in a darkened room that the screen is actually too dark. Yet in a normal setting that the screen is correctly lit. I've tried increasing the intensity to maximum with the sensor enabled and it's still to dark in the darkened room. Now, I've disabled the sensor entirely and the screen just runs wide open all the time - day or night.
Has anyone else felt that it was too dark in the darkened setting? I'm wondering if there is a setting (probably not yet written for the phone/OS) to vary how linear the light sensor is at darker levels? Maybe a 'minimum darkness' adjustment?
