I see a lot of people complaining about the resolution of the Desire HD. I noticed Gingerbread is rumoured to raise the resolution cap. Would any phone be able to take advantage of this?

I love my Evo and I also love the resolution and screen size but one thing I don't understand is, why don't phones with larger screen sizes and resolutions have more room to put stuff on the screen? I mean, every page of the Evo can hold up to 16 (4x4) singles icons and more space is needed for widgets... but like with a computer monitor if you get a bigger computer monitor that also has a higher native resolution, you'll be able to put more icons on the screen. I don't understand why that isn't so with the Android UI. And, if you look at the icons on the pages... the actual square needed to put the icon there is usually a lot bigger than the icon itself. The only things I have seen that let you put more stuff on the pages are the Android tablets... even the Dell Streak which has a 5" screen and is still a phone can put more stuff on the page. I also saw a awesome hack for the iPad which you can get a crap load more icons and pages. So I am hoping that there will be a hack for this in the future. I will even root the phone if I have to.

I've got a smartphone running Jelly Bean. As I like the gmail contact photos very much, I was happy that one new feature of Jelly Bean is the fact that the contact photos are synced with Google servers in hi-res (720x720). I spent a good deal of time replacing the awful downsized pictures with new hi-res pictures. They sync in 720px, everything fine, so far.
Where my problem begins: Within the next days I expect the arrival of my new tablet. It's a low budget one (Arnova 10b G3) which runs Ice Cream Sandwich and which maybe won't ever get a Jelly Bean firmware.
I'm in a conflict now: On the one hand, I'd like to use the tablet with my Google account and not create a dummy account or something like that. This would spoil much of the usability of the account. On the other hand, I don't want to destroy my hi-res contact pics because one Google sync under ICS would downsize them forever and I guess they would again sync downsized to my Jelly Bean phone.
Is there maybe a hack that prevents Google from syncing the contact pictures? In this case, I could use the Google account on the ICS tablet just without contact pics. The downsized pics are rubbish anyways if one's display has a proper resolution.
Or, can one prevent Google from syncing the contacts after setting up the account? I know that the contact sync can be unchecked in the settings but as far as I know, that doesn't prevent the initial sync.

Just got Camera 360 and I'm having some trouble on my EVO. I'm shooting in high quality and in 1280x960 resolution but when I download the pics to my laptop they are coming out 424x320. I bumped up the resolution and same thing, small pics. The stock camera is working fine shooting at 1280x768 resolution

I recently got my first Android and am really digging the Google contacts integration. Especially with the Google+ profiles (even though.. who uses Google+??).
One issue I have, though, is that some of my contacts have G+ profile pics, and they show in my Hangouts app (when I text those people), but those pics do not show in the "Google People" app where I go when I want to look at my contacts. They also don't show in my phone dialer when I dial them by name.

I believe I have "stumbled" onto a possible solution to compressed/panelized contact images. I have owned the Hero, Droid and now the EVO. I have tried everything imaginable through exchange and gmail accounts by sending, receiving and downloading images to contacts with no luck....until today!!
I first start with an email with a photo attached from a computer and sent to my gmail account on my EVO. I click the download button the image downloads and then the image comes up on the screen after it completes the fetch of the attachment. Now with that image on the screen click the phone's menu button to share this image via text message as a mms to yourself. I use the Handcent app from the Market and when that image is RECEIVED press and hold on the image to copy it to the SD card. Now you should be able to see two thumbnails of this image in the gallery and the RECEIVED mms image that was saved to the SD card will be noticeably sharper. The lower res one is the first one from the first download from the gmail email. Your mms should show two images the one you SENT and the one you RECEIVED. You need to use the RECEIVED image. For some reason this one is not affected and compressed. The SENT image can not be used, I tried that. It is the RECEIVED mms.*
Then in contacts choose the person you want, click the edit button, tap the square where the image shows in contacts, choose gallery and pick the sharper of the two that were saved. It has worked for me on the EVO today and my daughter's Hero. I have not tried this on the Droid yet. Multiple test calls show a nice, sharp contact image!

Every time I try to add a contact icon (from a saved image on my phone), my Magic saves a low-resolution version of the crop I make.
When I dial the contact, the picture looks HORRIBLE (it seems like the resolution is about 50x50px or something). I tried making contact icons from photos made with the phone or from high-res images that I transferred from my PC, but the outcome is always the same: the resolution of the icon is too small.
Is there a way to solve this problem? There's no point having a low-res image in a high-resolution image placeholder.

why are my contact pics so blurry? The only answers are for the Motorola droid and the "pathways" you take are difrerent than the droid eris. Ex: got mms with pic, long pressed and saved. Went to album, selected pic, pressed menu button, set as, then chose contact. I figured that was a standard way of doing it and it worked. Except thay when i get a call from contact the picture looks pixelated and blurry. But all other pics not set as contact loom AMAZING. Any help? Do I also need to wait for that Google update talked about in a previous thread about the motorola droid? Another quick question.......my keyboard is lagging super hard while typing (only on this site btw) is there too much going on.

I'm on my 2nd Hero at the moment but m having a problem with my contact pictures. On my 1st Hero with Orange they were perfectly clear however I now have 1 with T-mobile and the contact pictures are very blurry, almost unrecognisable. Anyone know why this would happen and how to fix it? It is the exact same pics from the same memory card that I used on the 1st phone, I just swapped it over to the new 1 when it arrived I should add that when I say contact pics, its only when m calling some1 and their face fills the screen that this happens

I'm wondering if anyone has figured out yet what the best resolution and/or aspect ratio is for custom contact photos? Most of my contact photos come from Facebook, but some I will edit on my PC and load onto the phone's SD card. I know there are issues with decent photos becoming low-res pixelated, so I'm wondering if I start with the best size and/or aspect ratio, maybe the phone won't have to resample the photos itself.

My first experience with Android was 2 weeks ago when i finally received my Incredible (after having it on order for a month). I came from a Blackberry connected to my company's BES Server. I had started taking pictures of my contacts with my Blackberry and the pictures synced with the contacts in my Outlook. When I setup the Incredible to sync with the exchange server all of the pictures I had for my contacts instantly showed up as the contacts picture on the phone (just like on the Blackberry). I just figured that is how it is across all of the Android phones.Got my X last friday and found out that it apparently doesn't pull the contacts pictures from Exchange when i gets the rest of the data. Neither does it push pictures taken from the phone up to Exchange. My question is: is the Droid X's software lacking this feature normal for Android phones?Do Nexus One's and Samsung android phones sync contact photo's with Exchange?Trying to figure out if syncing contact photo's is just one of the extra niceties that come with the Incredible's Sense UI?

I was wondering if there is something in the settings or an app that will make phone call pics larger. When someone calls me, their pic is kind of small.

So there are a few apps which I want staying in memory. I.E. I don't want Android to kill it. Is there such an app that can do this and if not, is there a script? I believe Super Charger? If Super Charger, how do I use it?
To summarize, I want a few apps (the phone, the messaging, true caller, and ex dialer) to get highest priority/never die.
Is this possible?

I have a program that should work on Android 1.5, but when it's run on newer devices with higher resolution screens, it should support the full resolution and not emulate a lower resolution screen. As far as I can tell from the documentation, this should be simple.
I just specify
code:.........
The problem is that if I tell Eclipse to compile for 1.5, it refuses to accept this. It reports an error (targetSdkVersion is an unknown tag) and refuses to compile or run. If I tell it to compile for 1.6 it works fine, of course. But if I then try to install on a 1.5 AVD, the program immediately crashes with a java.lang.VerifyError. I'm clearly missing something simple. How do I get it to compile an apk that works under 1.5, but still includes the targetSdkVersion tag?
