I have added a few photos to my contacts but the resolution on both the thumbnail and contact picture while dialling is shocking! Can anyone suggest a way to improve them?

The contact picture quality is poor when I receive calls. Was much better in android 1.6. Anyone knows how to fix this? Also the HD recording seems poor. Not much of an HD-quality if u ask me.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSince I started installing custom ROMs on my Desire, the contact pictures have been missing in the HTC Messages app. They show up fine everywhere else, just in Messages I see the default grey contact icon all the time.I initially thought it could be a bug specific to one of the ROMs I installed but it's happened with AdamG's 'official' Froyo Sense ROM and Paul's MCR Custom ROM r5 which I'm currently running (actually, I've installed 2 slightly different 'bakes' of this and the problem is there in both).I've tried asking about this on XDA and MoDaCo in the relevant ROM threads but not had any luck. Just wondered if anyone had any idea at all what could be causing this and how to fix it, or at least find out why it's happening.As I said, its literally just in the Messages app that it's happening - everywhere else contact pics show up just fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI believe I have "stumbled" onto a possible solution to compressed/panelized contact images. I have owned the Hero, Droid and now the EVO. I have tried everything imaginable through exchange and gmail accounts by sending, receiving and downloading images to contacts with no luck....until today!!
I first start with an email with a photo attached from a computer and sent to my gmail account on my EVO. I click the download button the image downloads and then the image comes up on the screen after it completes the fetch of the attachment. Now with that image on the screen click the phone's menu button to share this image via text message as a mms to yourself. I use the Handcent app from the Market and when that image is RECEIVED press and hold on the image to copy it to the SD card. Now you should be able to see two thumbnails of this image in the gallery and the RECEIVED mms image that was saved to the SD card will be noticeably sharper. The lower res one is the first one from the first download from the gmail email. Your mms should show two images the one you SENT and the one you RECEIVED. You need to use the RECEIVED image. For some reason this one is not affected and compressed. The SENT image can not be used, I tried that. It is the RECEIVED mms.*
Then in contacts choose the person you want, click the edit button, tap the square where the image shows in contacts, choose gallery and pick the sharper of the two that were saved. It has worked for me on the EVO today and my daughter's Hero. I have not tried this on the Droid yet. Multiple test calls show a nice, sharp contact image!
Namely when i receive or send calls the contact pic (either from Google or FB sync) are really pixelated ,because they're low resolution,how can i force them to be bigger? i've alredy tried alternate dialer apps and am not satisfied with them,nor do i wish to use a 3rd party app.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEvery time I try to add a contact icon (from a saved image on my phone), my Magic saves a low-resolution version of the crop I make.
When I dial the contact, the picture looks HORRIBLE (it seems like the resolution is about 50x50px or something). I tried making contact icons from photos made with the phone or from high-res images that I transferred from my PC, but the outcome is always the same: the resolution of the icon is too small.
Is there a way to solve this problem? There's no point having a low-res image in a high-resolution image placeholder.
I've got a smartphone running Jelly Bean. As I like the gmail contact photos very much, I was happy that one new feature of Jelly Bean is the fact that the contact photos are synced with Google servers in hi-res (720x720). I spent a good deal of time replacing the awful downsized pictures with new hi-res pictures. They sync in 720px, everything fine, so far.
Where my problem begins: Within the next days I expect the arrival of my new tablet. It's a low budget one (Arnova 10b G3) which runs Ice Cream Sandwich and which maybe won't ever get a Jelly Bean firmware.
I'm in a conflict now: On the one hand, I'd like to use the tablet with my Google account and not create a dummy account or something like that. This would spoil much of the usability of the account. On the other hand, I don't want to destroy my hi-res contact pics because one Google sync under ICS would downsize them forever and I guess they would again sync downsized to my Jelly Bean phone.
Is there maybe a hack that prevents Google from syncing the contact pictures? In this case, I could use the Google account on the ICS tablet just without contact pics. The downsized pics are rubbish anyways if one's display has a proper resolution.
Or, can one prevent Google from syncing the contacts after setting up the account? I know that the contact sync can be unchecked in the settings but as far as I know, that doesn't prevent the initial sync.
I'm wondering if anyone has figured out yet what the best resolution and/or aspect ratio is for custom contact photos? Most of my contact photos come from Facebook, but some I will edit on my PC and load onto the phone's SD card. I know there are issues with decent photos becoming low-res pixelated, so I'm wondering if I start with the best size and/or aspect ratio, maybe the phone won't have to resample the photos itself.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen i m indoors, if I switch to GSM only mode, the reception is excellent. But when I m on WCDMA mode, then the reception drops alarmingly to near zero. At the same spot, a Nokia E51 shows near full strength signal. If I move towards the door, the reception improves. Does the desire have issues with indoor reception? Or is it just my handset?

Leaning more towards the desire, but the only thing holding me back is the poor reception problems people have been experiencing. I'm on orange, and based in the east midlands, UK. Not had bad reception in my area with other phones in the past, so if got the desire and did have problems, it would annoy me to say the least

I am sure it has something to do with the phone because I never had the problem with Sonyerikson. Now overtime I have no network I have to turn off HTC desire completly and turn it back on to have network, which works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using Advanced Task Killer Free and found a running app called poor, unsure what it was so used ATKF to kill it but after checking a little while later it was running again, killed it again and again checking a few minutes it was running again. Becoming increasingly concerned I've now uninstalled every application (a number of them had updated) except ATKF and Google maps (which also updated recently) but it still seems to start itself.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use to own a palm pre before I switched to HTC EVO. I think the evo is a great phone but the two things I missed so much about my palm pre is the camera and the sound qualities.
The EVO is said to use 8MP for its camera but honestly the camera quality is nothing compare to the palm pre. Simply put, the camera and the sound output on the evo sucks.
You can clearly notice the difference between the pictures I took using the pre and the evo. The pre gives far better picture quality and also better sound output. I always enjoy plays my sounds or using pandora on my pre, but with the evo the different is the case. The sound quality with the evo is horrible even when plugged to good speakers.
I bearly take picture with the evo because I am used to good picture quality with my pre.
I have had the evo for less than two weeks and i am seriously thinking of returning it because of these two issues.
I really want to know, is this poor picture and poor sound qualities a thing with the evo in general or is it just with the particular evo that I got.
I seem to have a poor signal alot of the time. 1 or 2 bars is not unusual in places my old phone used to have full signal strength. It went on roaming for some reason in the shopping centre today. It is always on H or nothing. My old phone used to drop onto edge and GPRS if it didn't get a H signal. And what about 3G? An all singing all dancing phone is no good if it cant perform its main function.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just received my HTC Desire on Orange, rooted and de-branded it. Works fine now, I'm on SW version 1.15 as otherwise, I get issues on Orange.
However, the color depth on my device is very poor, it looks like it only has 256 colours if that makes any sense? A bit like on the old PCs when you rebooted and your display graphics drivers weren't properly installed.
Is there any way I can reinstall display drivers on Android? I hope this isn't a hardware issue.
I have never had any problems at home with either my trusty unlocked N95 or Orange Sony Ericsson T610 (remember them?) so I had no qualms over ordering a nice shiny (dark brown) HTC Desire.
3G coverage is a bit iffy in the area as I'm right on the border of an excellent to good area so I never expected to have super fast data over the air, but I have wifi locally for that anyway.
So you can imagine my disappointment when the first call with the mobile from home cut off quite suddenly. A retry to reconnect failed with a no service message and no signal strength. I then spent the next hour playing around with the settings turning off wifi, data, setting the phone to 3G only (no chance) and then GSM only.
When the phone was working and making a call the audio was not clean and very digital. There was also a chance that mid call you would be cut off for no reason. When it wasn't playing ball at all the signal strength varied from three bars down to zero without moving the phone. Sometimes upon initiating the call it came back immediately with no signal and cutting the call off. Picking the phone up from sitting on the side in sleep mode you were usually presented with a no service message.
Orange were excellent and immediately replaced the phone, a courier arriving at 6:15pm upon reporting the problem at 8:30am that morning. Unfortunately the replacement was exactly the same.
Even worse, my place of work is in a designated poor reception area. There are a number of us on Orange as it is the only network that can at a pinch be picked up inside. My Desire...no signal at all. Moving to a window seat got me two bars but the phone refused to connect or hold a call. The only time it did calling 150 sounded like I was listening to a recording of a Darlek. A Nokia 5300 on Orange alongside was nice and clear, with very good tone by comparison.
By chance another member of staff also had recently signed up with Orange on a Desire (500mins, unlim texts, 500Mb, free phone, 20). In a back to back test both phones were the same. We even tried swapping SIMs. Luckily for him he has no problems with reception when at home so is quite happy with the Desire.
Contacting Orange again I did not get much further. Talking to technical support they were not much help and suggested that they did not warrant the phone to work inside the building and as I could make a continuous call outside then they did not class the phone at fault. This included my problems at home in what is termed an excellent coverage area! When I pointed out that two other phones I owned did work in the very same location I was told that mobile designs differ and positions of antennas vary considerably.
Frustrated I decided the only course of action was to use my right to cancel within 7 days as it was apparent that I was not going to be able to resolve the issue. Even last night it performed perfectly for a couple of calls and then failed miserably an hour later.
As a gadget I was smitten. Even as I handed the package over to the Post Master today I was inwardly screaming �GIVE IT BACK!� Unfortunately I need to be able to make calls on it when I want, not when it wants.
I have only seen a couple of other members note a similar problem on these forums but I have noticed a large number of Nexus problems that sound very similar. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this or do you all live in 5/5 coverage areas?
I synced facebook to update the contact pictures and now all the pictures are gone even my contact picture.
If i click on the contact then click link it says i have no facebook friend to link to.
It stopped charging, seemed like it was the charger connector, no problem they say, its covered under warranty, so i sent it off, then they email me, 53 quid please, you broke it, well i didnt, im CAREFUL BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO. 3 weeks pass, where is it? several calls result in various responses. after 4 weeks, it comes back, still not working, turns out its the charger. how did they not eliminate that? perhaps i should have noticed but i put my faith in their support and they took fifty quid fot the pleasure. poor
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have read a few threads, but they aren't saying the evo4g is having this problem. but mine is. i imported my contacts from my outlook and all the images are coming up blurry when i receive calls and make them. also, a lot of the images on my contacts aren't even showing up on the phone, but i see them in the outlook actually it looks like the Vermeer images i was using when i had my iphone aren't loading, but regular images are. anyways, for the regular images from the outlook sync to the phone, is there a way to get them clearer?

If this is already covered - I couldn't find it, so please point me in the right direction.
I have my G1 sync'ing with my gmail for contacts (obviously), and a large number of my gmail contacts have pictures associated with them.
This all works fine for a while, and then... consistently... after a few days... the pictures on my contacts get messed up. They kinda swap around, and some of them seem to use random pictures which have been linked to contacts in the past, or perhaps even not at all.
I do not know whether this is getting messed up on my G1, and replicated to gmail, or the other way around, but I can't stop it happening and its massively annoying.
Any other information can be provided, but if anyone else has this problem or knows how I might fix it, it would probably save my sanity greatly.
I have painstakingly updated most of my Google contacts with pictures, and set them as the default pictures for all of my contacts in my phone.However, every two days or so they revert back to the contacts Facebook picture.I have the HTC Evo 4G.How do I keep it from doing this?

I'm loving my phone, and I love how it pulls photos and contacts from Facebook, Gmail, etc.However, A lot of my friends are already changing their pictures, and the phone isn't updating them on my favorites, or in my actual phonebook/contact list. I know how to manually set the picture, but I want it to re-pull new photos from Facebook. Any ideas?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I was trying to fix my calender, and I accidentally cleared the data for contact storage, rather than calender storage. Now all of my pictures for my contacts are gone. They are still associated with their Facebook accounts, but they just don't have pictures. All phone numbers and things are still there. I also get a proces.google.gapps force close sometimes. What exactly happened, and how can I fix it?
