Android :: With Windows 7 - After Installing And Removing App Etc - How Tidy Is Android

Sep 6, 2010

Having had a Wildfire for several weeks and loving it. Just a question, after installing and removing games, apps etc, a thought came to me.

How tidy is Android? I mean with Windows 7, after installing and removing app etc you are left with rubbish on the system. What does Android do? Does uninstalling an app remove all the bits of the program? Do I have to invest in a program to tidy up? Does such a program exist?

Aug 10, 2010

Lately I've been downloading a lot of apps and trying them out, only to find out 8/10 times i don't want them anymore. I've noticed a few leave behind folders on my SDcard that I had to delete. Just wondering if that's all they left or maybe something left in the system too.

Android :: Windows 2K - Running Emulator Or Installing Native Driver

Jan 18, 2010

I know that Google elected Windows XP (eXtra Problems) to be the minimum operating system, but was anyone here able to run it on win2k? Being able to run the emulator OR install the native driver (to debug in the device) would be enough. I really would not like to have to buy a new computer just because of android. Since I already work with many other platforms without problems.

Sprint HTC Hero : Windows Drive Mounting - Reintroduce My Phone To The Windows Box

May 21, 2010

I have had DC 2.08.1 installed for about 2 weeks with no issues. I decided to go ahead and partition the SD to utilized apps2SD as I was having memory issues. That process, while not smooth, went through okay and the SD card is working with the partition and apps2SD. However, ever since that was completed, my Windows 7 box no longer recognizes the phone either as a phone or as a drive. My Linux laptop recognizes the drive without issue.

Any suggestions on how I can reintroduce my phone to the Windows box, at least as a drive?

Android :: Need Removing App Names?

Aug 5, 2010

I am looking for the name of an App that I read about a while back. From my understanding it would remove the names of the apps when you put them on the screen. Just make it all a little less cluttered. I also recall reading that the extra space from not having names would allow you to put another row of apps on each page.

There are so many apps in the market and I don't trust all of them. Is there a way to remove some permissions of the already compiled APK? And is there also a way to add an error-handler into the .apk-file, so that the errors of the requested permissions will also be suppressed?

Android :: Removing G Factor From Accelerometer Readings?

Jul 31, 2010

removing the g factor from accelerometer readings. I am using SensorEventListener with onSensorChanged() method for getting Sensor.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER data. I need only pure acceleration values in all directions. So at any state if the device is stable (or in constant speed), it should give (0.0,0.0,0.0) roughly.
Currently, depending on its pitch and roll, it gives me variable output depending on the g forces acting on each axis. I hope there is some formula to remove this, as I also get orientation values (pitch and roll) from Sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION listener. I had used some but didn't work.

Android : After Removing OverlayItem Tap Events Are Still Trigger / Fix?

Oct 27, 2010

I have a simple overlay for a Google Map: http://pastebin.com/Rg8miMSh and I add/remove items on it depending on the zoom level. After removing/adding I call populate on the overlay and invalidate on the map view. Everything works just fine, except 1 glitch: after an item was removed, if I tap its location onTap is still triggered and because the OverlayItem is not there anymore i get java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException in com.google.android.maps.ItemizedOverlay.maskHelper(ItemizedOverlay.java: 562) (full stack trace - http://pastebin.com/KThn4ZLE )

Anyone knows why this is happening or how to fix it? Initially i called clear and added all items all over again which didn't seems to cause this problem. However having many items this was becoming a performance issue. Adding/removing only the difference works much faster and I would like to keep this method.

Android :: Removing / Destroying Objects When Screen Is Rotated

Jan 25, 2010

I am finding that performance degrades after one or more screen rotations, and I presume that this is likely to be because an App's main Activity is destroyed and recreated each time the screen is rotated and that my app must be leaking memory when that happens.I have read that, contrary to what one might expect, not all the objects created by an app's main Activity (or in classes called by that Activity) are destroyed when the activity is destroyed. Specifically, I think I have read (although I can't now find where) that if the View uses a large bitmap member object then the Activity's onDestroy() method should be over-ridden and the bitmap should be explicitly recycled. Are there other objects that need to be destroyed or removed when the Activity is destroyed? What about Listeners? Is there a comprehensive tutorial or guide on this subject?
